Athletics Carnival
What a wonderful event the Athletics Carnival turned out to be! We
were lucky to have such a beautiful day for the students of LMPS to test
their skills on track and field events. It was great to see so many
parents come along to enjoy the day as well and encourage their
children to strive for their personal best. Well done to everyone!
Great work
Visiting me this week was
Skye, Tegan and Chelsea to
show me the electric train they
had built in Science. Their
research led them to build the
train using coiled copper wire,
magnets and a fully-charged
battery. Their clever design
skills and problem solving led
them to deliver a very interesting experiment to show me. Well done!
PBL News
This week the PBL Buy-In list was delivered to classrooms. The list
gives a selection of different fun things the students can “buy” with their
Lakeys. Students have until the 17th August to earn and save their
Lakeys. The buy-in event is on the 24th August. Please see the buy-in
list for further information.
Please Note: Kindergarten students and
their teachers are working towards a special
Kindy Buy-In, which will happen on the same
day as the rest of the school.
Congratulations to Cooper who proudly represented our school at Sydney North level for Touch Football. We are very proud of his efforts.

Bus Safety Just a timely reminder about discussing with your children the importance of being safe on the
bus. We have had a couple of reports that a small number of children are acting unsafely on the
bus (walking around, antagonising/teasing others, using foul language). We always want our
students to arrive safely both to school and home so please reinforce those safety rules for bus
travel.

Primary Athletics Carnival
On Tuesday, all of our primary students (and some awesome 8 year olds)
participated in the Primary Athletics Carnival.
It was a beautiful day at Warnervale Oval. Students were given the opportunity
to take part in running, discus, high jump and long jump events. It was
wonderful to see students encouraging each other, cheering each other on and
congratulating each other at the end of the events. What fantastic attitudes!
Those students who placed top four in their age group earnt points for their
house. Primary students who placed in the top three received ribbons today,
and infants place-getters will receive ribbons at next week’s assembly.
Well done to everyone!

LMPS BOYS SOCCER TEAM
Thursday 26th July saw Lake Munmorah Public School boys’ soccer team participate in a knockout gala day. They
were excited and ready to go, and had a long day ahead with last minute drop outs from other schools meaning we
were the only school with executive games – talk about tired!
The boys took on Budgewoi Public School in round one, with a nice performance, winning nicely by 5-2. They had
a great game and worked incredibly well as a team.
Our second game of the day was against Gwandalan Public school where we won 2-1. By this stage the fatigue
was starting to show but the confidence and team spirit was bursting. We were the only team to score, with a lovely
own goal headed in by one of our strikers (he just wanted one more!).
Lake Munmorah’s last game of the day saw Woongarrah Public School come in as winners from games played last
term (where they defeated teams 6-0!). The boys lost an early goal, but managed to equalise in the second half.
There was almost a goal to lead but unfortunately the flag went up and we were offside. Our team held out and
held out but they were too good and were able to get past our defence. They scored, and we lost 2-1. The
Woongarrah coach went out of his way to thank the boys and commend them on their efforts as he had never had
such a close game before.
The impression our boys left on the other teams was one that they have worked incredibly hard for at every training
session – beat them on the scoreboard and show nothing but class. The level of commitment to this team, to
training and to representing our school is an indication of the type of people these boys are growing into. It was an
absolute pleasure to take such a fantastic group of individuals who made it their mission to become an incredible
team. I will miss training sessions!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our parents and families who put up with late afternoon training
sessions and many washed out almost games. Your participation on the day means more to the boys than they will
admit and I would like to thank you for your continued support. It makes the day more special when you can share
in their victories and be there for the losses.
Cheers gents!

Last week’s lesson covered moving sensibly and carefully around the school, with the emphasis on transitioning to Assembly in a responsible and respectful manner. This lesson supported previous lessons on how to move around the school when transitioning from one area to another, from one classroom to another, or at the end of lunch breaks when returning to classrooms. Next week’s lesson is on Assembly behaviour. Students will look at
being respectful and responsible audience members during all school
assemblies, visiting performances and other school events. They will
examine the 5L’s that will help them be a responsible audience member – sitting with legs
crossed, hands in laps, lips still, looking at the speaker, and listening respectfully. Teachers will
be looking for students who are doing their personal best during assemblies to award their
Lakeys.
This term, in week 5, there will be a ‘buy-in’ day. Students will be offered a list of activities and
they will be able to choose a reward they want and ‘buy’ it with their Lakey’s.
The ‘traded’ Lakeys will then be added to the big Lakey box that will help all students reach the
next targeted level that will earn them a whole-school reward.
