BOOK WEEK/ SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING and MATHEMATICS (STEM) WEEK

We look forward to seeing the children coming to school on this day dressed as a book character. Please bring the book your character is from to the assembly so other children will become inspired to read the book of your choice.

VALUES

It has been two years since our Values program was launched. Children across the school continue to embrace our six values of HONESTY, CREATIVITY, RESPECT, RESPONSIBILTY, CARING and PERSEVERANCE. The introduction of the Values program has been very positive, defining our school motto of ‘A View to Excellence.’

CRUNCH AND SIP Years 1- 6

The Crunch and Sip program at Lake Monger Primary School was launched two years ago on 28 August. Over this time we have continued to see the program included as a part of the daily classroom practice. From 2:00pm - 2:05pm (depending on the activity the children are engaged in at the time which may cause Crunch and Sip to occur in an earlier or later timeslot) children from Years 1 – 6 can be seen enjoying a small piece of either fruit or vege and drinking water as they ‘refuel’ for the afternoon program.

Parents know that we are very keen to remind the children about the importance of being healthy and staying healthy and we thank you for your continuing support of this very important program in our school.

P&C THANK YOU/NEWS

Thank you very much to our P&C for agreeing to fund a Hummingbird kit and a portable PA system at the last meeting. This is really appreciated by the children and the staff.

The next meeting of the P&C will be held on Monday 9 September commencing at 7:00pm in the conference room. (Please note the change of time). We look forward to seeing you at the meeting.

PARENT NIGHT

Parent Night is on Wednesday 25 September. The evening will commence at 6:00 pm and conclude at 7:00 pm. All classrooms from Kindergarten – Year 6 will be open during this time. The evening is not a time for parent interviews but rather a time for children to have the opportunity to show their parents their great work. Parents are most welcome to make an interview time with their child’s teacher for a later date. The music room, library and computer lab will also be open on this night.

YEAR 6 GRADUATION DATE

The Year 6 Graduation assembly will be held in the school undercover area commencing at 9:00 am on Friday 6 December.

Sunsmart Tip

Sunscreens containing Zinc Oxide work to reflect ultraviolet light, effectively blocking out sunlight. Zinc oxide based sun-screens are less likely to cause skin irritation.

Have you enrolled for Kindergarten and Pre-Primary 2020?

Enrolments are now open for Kindergarten and Pre-Primary in 2020. Please call into the school office as soon as possible to complete enrolment forms. Many families missed out on a place for Kindy this year so if you know of someone requiring a place for 2020, please let them know. Current Kindy families will need to fill out a new enrolment form for Pre-Primary 2020.

Waterwise Tip

Prevent litter from entering the drainage system. Polluted stormwater kills aquatic life as well as looking ugly.

Online Safety - how to keep your child safe online

Protecting your children from harm is just as important online as it is in the real world. As a parent or carer, you can play an important role in helping children have safe and positive experiences online. The internet offers an exciting world of experiences for children and the whole family. It can be entertaining, educational and rewarding. However, using the internet also involves risks and challenges. Children might be exposed to content that is sexually explicit, violent, prohibited or even illegal. They may also experience cyber bullying or be at risk from contact by strangers. Children may - unknowingly or deliberately - share personal information without realising they may be subject to identity theft, or that they are leaving behind content that might not reflect well on them in the future. By taking an active role in talking with your kids about the risks and answering their questions or concerns about something that they find on the Internet you can help them stay safer online. For more information on keeping your children safe online try the following website:

iParent is an online resource developed by the Office of the Children’s E-Safety Commission where parents can learn about the digital environment and keep updated on their children’s technology use. Guidance for using safety settings on your family’s web-connected devices, tips for choosing movies and games and strategies for keeping young people safe online is available. www.esafety.gov.au

COMMUNITY NOTICES

Dear LMPS parents/Caregivers, Your Crazy Camel favourite fundraising event is back! During this term our children will be busy creating their own artwork that will be translated to a product. Last year we chose greeting cards as the end product which was a hit. This time you will have the opportunity to choose from a wide range of products that Crazy camel offers, including: calendars, greeting cards, diaries, notebooks, sketch pads, pillowcases, tea towels and tote bags. Please feel free to check these products out they are displayed in the school’s office. By ordering through LMPS P&C, depending on the item ordered our school will get a profit of ~33-43% from each product, this will go towards the school’s nature playground, please make sure you order through us!

At the end of this term your children will bring home their artwork and order forms with products list (including pricing), you can choose as many as you wish. Please follow below instructions to prevent last minute orders and ensure you receive good quality products:

Return order form WITH your child’s artwork Keep artwork intact in the plastic sheet, not folded or wrinkled Make sure your kids write their full name (not first name only)

For more details, feel free to visit our FB page ‘’Lake Monger Primary School P&C Community’’ or contact Hanane Belhoul-Fakir by email [email protected] . Looking forward to more orders this year! Best regards Lake Monger Primary School P&C committee
