Next weekend, please welcome Rev. Rick LaBrecque who will be with us to celebrate Masses and tell us about the work of UN-BOUND, a lay Catholic sponsor-ship ministry that helps children and elderly in 20 developing countries. The Rev. LaBrecque is a priest of the Diocese of Charleston, South Caroli-na. Most of his priesthood has been spent serving Spanish-speaking com-munities. He has also served in vocations work, communications and contin-uing education, as well as organizing mission trips for parishioners to Hon-duras. “UNBOUND gives me an opportunity to help connect people with our broth-ers and sisters in poorer parts of the world. It has also been a wonderful way to experience the church today around the country.”

ALPHA…

What is Alpha? Alpha is a series of interactive sessions that explore the Christian faith. It is a parish tool to foster evangelization. Alpha is based on welcome and hospitality, sharing and prayer. Each session includes a meal, a talk and small group discussion. The Meal Offering a meal or snack is an essential part of Alpha. Participants are welcomed into a relaxed and friendly setting and have the opportunity to get to know one another. The Talk After the meal, a short talk is given on the Christian faith. The talks are based on the teaching of the Church, the Bible, and the personal testimony of the speaker. Topics vary from ‘Who is Jesus?’ to ‘How can I make the most of the rest of my life?’ The Small Group Conversation The small groups provide the opportunity to build trust and friendship. The role of the host (leader) is to facilitate discussion, inviting guests to share openly and honestly, without any criticism or judgment. Within the group, participants learn the art of liste- ning, reading the Scriptures and praying. The small groups often develop into prayer groups that may then become small Christian communities within the parish.

Dios cuida del pobre y del oprimido y nosotros debemos hacer lo mismo. Vigésimo Sexto Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario Semana del 25 de septiembre del 2016 Escucha la Palabra (Lucas 16:19 — 31) Cuando escuchan la historia de Lázaro, el hombre rico, ¿qué les llama la aten-ción? ¿Qué palabras o frases los impacta? Ve tu vida Pregunta para los niños: Jesús nos enseña a compartir lo que tenemos con los demás. ¿Qué tienen ustedes que pueden compartir? Pregunta para los jóvenes: La historia del Evangelio nos dice que seremos juzgados por lo que hacemos o no hacemos por el pobre y el necesitado. Co-mo persona joven, tú sabes ¡qué difícil es conseguir dinero! Entonces, con la cantidad de dinero que tengas, ¿cómo te aseguras de compartir al menos un poco con los demás? Pregunta para los adultos: ¿Qué opciones pueden tomar o han tomado para equilibrar su propia vida con aquéllos que no tienen hogar, con los pobres y con los que necesitan ayuda en su vida diaria? ¿Como les informa el Evangelio acerca de esto? Actividades para la semana Tome estas actividades para reflexionar más: En familia, hagan planes para hacer una actividad en las próximas semanas que muestren su responsabilidad hacia los pobres y necesitados. Quizá pudie-ran trabajar como voluntarios en nuestro o en otro comedor local. Otras posibili-dades son ayudar con la colecta de comida de San Vicente de Paul en nuestra parroquia o dar tutoría a los niños pequeños de una escuela o en un programa después de la escuela en su comunidad. Después de terminar su proyecto o actividad, hablen de cómo su familia puede continuar ayudando a los pobres y necesitados. En la cena, pidan a los miembros de la familia que se turnen para dirigir una oración personal por los pobres y por todos aquéllos que trabajan por los po-bres. God cares for the poor and the oppressed, and we should too. Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time Week of September 25, 2016 Listen to the Word (Luke 16:19 — 31) When you hear the story of the rich man, Lazarus, what catches your ear in it? What word or phrase really strikes you?

Look into your life Question for children: Jesus teaches us to share what we have with others. What do you have that you are able to share? Question for youth: The Gospel story tells us that we are judged by what we do or don’t do for the poor and needy. How are you current-ly reaching out to those in need? What more could you do? Question for adults: What choices can you or have you made to balance your own life with those who are homeless, poor and in need of assistance for daily living? How does this Gospel reading inform you about that? Activities for the week Take these activities to further reflect: As a family, make plans to do one activity in the coming weeks that shows your responsibility to the poor and needy. You might volunteer to work in ours or another local soup kitchen or food pan-try. Other possibilities include helping with the Saint Vincent de Paul food drives at our church or volunteering to mentor young children at a school or after school program in our community. After you have completed your project or activity, talk about how you as a family can continue to care for the poor and needy on an ongoing basis. At the evening meal, have each member of the family take a turn leading a personal prayer for the poor and for all of those who serve the poor. Watch a television program or a video, or read a magazine or newspaper article, that tells about the living conditions of poor peo-ple today. Play a game with your child to see how many of God’s gifts he or she can name. On a large sheet of paper, write across the top: Top 25 Gifts from God. Have your child start by naming one of God’s gifts. Then you name a gift. Alternate back and forth with your child and see if you can come up with 25 gifts. Say a prayer of thanksgiv-ing to God for what you have been given. Ask for the grace to share your gifts with others.

The sin of the rich man in today’s parable was not that he was rich, but that he failed to share his wealth with the beggar at his gate. He knew Lazarus, perhaps walked by him every time he came in or out, but did nothing to relieve his suffering. Is there a Lazarus in my life? What am I doing to help?

Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cancer Home Fundraising Event. Tickets for the auxiliary fund

drive will be sold after all masses this weekend and next. Our Lady of Per-petual Help Cancer Home is operated by the Hawthorne Dominican Sisters. Terminally ill cancer patients receive quality nursing care at NO COST, without regard to religious preference, social status, or ethnic background. The raffle tickets sale is one of the main sources of income for the sup-port of the Sisters and the needs of the patients at the home.

We will not have Mass at the University neither this Thursday nor next.
