Despite the occasional blip in behaviour, this has been confined to minor incidents that have been dealt with by our staff. The half term ahead is, once again, packed with opportunities for you and the children to get involved in wider school activities. Rehearsals for the school production “The Little Shop of Horrors” continue, as do all of the sports clubs and other clubs run by the staff. There will be our annual Winter Concert and the final day Carol Service at St Mary’s Church, Cleobury Mortimer. We also have the “Back to School Quiz” night arranged for the 30th November by our terrific PTA, tickets for which will be on sale shortly. All questions will be based on school subjects so it might be advisable to bring your children with you. They are also co-ordinating the “Bags 2 School” collection between the 9th and 12th November, so please have a clear out at home as this really helps bolster PTA funds; funds which are then used to support our students in school.

On Saturday 13th October we -

Milly, Alice and Ailsa - travelled to

Shrewsbury Museum and Art

Gallery to attend a portrait

masterclass alongside pupils from

Shrewsbury High School.

The artist, Peter Edwards (winner of the 1994 BP Portrait Award), who

hosted the event demonstrated his techniques and how he creates his

pieces using acrylic paint as a medium. We then proceeded to create

self-portraits using his previously shown methods. It was a valuable

experience and we are all pleased with the final products, which we

were able to complete in two hours. We all thoroughly enjoyed the

master class and it has greatly improved our ability to work with acrylic

paint and how to create pieces under time pressure.

What’s on in The Centre?

What is Drama club?

Lacon Childe Drama Club in now in its third successful year. We meet after school on Wednesdays from 3.15pm until 4.15pm. The aim of the Club is for it to be fun, imaginative and low pressure. We have written and produced two Christmas pantomimes which we have performed in front of the whole school; last year, we also invited Cleobury Primary School students to come and enjoy it. The pantomimes have been great fun and it is also incredibly rewarding to see other students enjoying our performances and to hear them still talking about the pantomimes much later on.

Currently, we have just started to rehearse an adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, to be performed just before we break for Christmas – it’s not too late to get involved if you fancy having a go; all students are welcome.

We really do have a friendly group of students in Drama Club who all just want to have fun and enjoy being creative; they always welcome new members warmly.

Volunteers Needed

To train as a Student Librarian Why should I volunteer? * To learn new skills * To be part of a team * A well structure training programme * To help the school take pride in our books * Highly rewarding job. * Something to offer on future prefect/college applications. If you would be interested, please go to the centre to see Mrs Clee during break or lunch.
