Darcy competed recently in the West Midland Voluntary Level Gymnastic Championships and was crowned the All-round Championship for the West Midlands in her age category (12 years +)! Gymnastic clubs from all around the Region competed including Birmingham, Staffordshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Shropshire. Darcy competed in 4 apparatus and came 1st on beam, 2nd on floor, 3rd on vault and 4th on bars. Darcy has competed in gymnastics since she was 8 years old and trains 9 hours a week at Shrewsbury Gymnastics Academy. Darcy’s next competition is in November when she has been selected to compete in the West Midlands Team Voluntary Level Championships. Gymnastics is such a tough sport with many hours of training and dedication and Darcy is not one to shout about her successes.

On Saturday 6th October, Ellie and Danny entered the WUMA Taekwondo World Championships that were held in Worcester this year. They went along with their team from RPMAA in Kidderminster.

They both entered patterns and continuous sparring.

Ellie entered the patterns in girls under 16s in her belt category. She did amazingly and thought she had secured a silver but, unfortunately, one girl slipped up and stopped midway through her pattern. She should have been disqualified but an instructor spoke to the judges and said she slipped on the floor and they should give her a score. That gave her a high score which everyone said was too high. This knocked Ellie out to 4th place.

On Friday 28th September, the whole of Year 9 participated in a languages morning. The languages included: Mandarin, Catalan, French, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese.

We had thirty minutes to an hour of learning the different languages and learning about some of their culture. We learnt things such as specific foods, monuments and history relating to the language and the countries.

Overall, we enjoyed learning about the different cultures and learning a bit more about languages we aren’t taught at Lacon.

Thank you Ms Vernon for organising the morning.

By Nina, Emma and Konnie

Danny entered the boys under 16s in his belt category and with a lot less drama was awarded Silver place in his patterns. Ellie then entered the continuous sparring -155 girls black belt category and won Bronze medal. Danny then entered the continuous sparring -155 boys black belt category and won Silver medal.

They were both outstanding on Saturday and we are very proud of them and their team. The effort, hours and dedication that has been put into training towards this competition has been tremendous. They have finished school, participated in after school sports every night except Monday and do fixtures and then some nights only have fifteen minutes to get ready to get off to training in Kidderminster. They do TKD 7 days a week at the moment with training for the competition and also their 2nd Dan black belt in November.

It has all paid off this weekend!!!

What’s on in The Centre?

Bullying

Cyber bullying isn’t kind, Think what you’re about to do in your mind, You’re too scared to show your face, That’s why it’s such a disgrace. Physical bullying isn’t nice, So always remember to think twice. Verbal bullying is just as bad, With the things that you say can make people sad, Each and every one of our imperfections make us who we are, What you say is quite bizarre. Bullying in anyway is wrong, You may think you’re big and strong, But if the shoe was on the other foot Maybe then you won’t be quite as tough. By Zoe Armstrong.
