Preliminary survey among the faculty to identify core competence
Design a faculty skill building program incorporating the needs
Inviting faculties to act as resource persons
Capacity building of the faculty in the core skills and knowledge
A core team will be constituted comprising the trained faculty
The team will design the course content of the foundation program
Implementation of the program with both medical and non medical resource persons

Essential Components of the Proposed Foundation Program
Communi-cation
•The Program should comprise of components on Statistical methods, Basic Laboratory investigations, Essentials of Scientific Writing, Basic research ethics, Fundamentals of Computers including Internet and navigation, life style
modification and stress handling. It will also facilitate better interaction among the student community
•Keeping this in view an innovative change is needed in the curricular aspect. An interdisciplinary foundation program should be incorporated common to all
MD/MS study program.
•This period should be best utilized by every student with maximum productivity in terms of knowledge and skills.
•The problem is more pronounced for in-service students who after their clinical career often grapple while acclimatizing with the new academic ambience
•Past experiences suggest that most of the students find it difficult to acquire the relevant skills relating to Bio-statistics, Research proposal submission,
seminar presentation, ethical regulation
• The three -year MD/MS study is a crucial phase of Medical career

The purpose of this proposed program is to build appropriate skills among the existing faculty
of the medical college so that they could act as resource persons in the interdisciplinaryfoundation program for postgraduate students
