LABORATORY GUIDELINESLaboratory Rules

1. Discipline inside the laboratory must be strictly observed at all times.

a. No eating, smoking and drinking inside the laboratory

b. No running and prank-playing

c. No applying cosmetics, lip balm and wearing of contact lenses

2. Proper personal protective equipment must be observed. No student will allowedto perform an experiment when he/she is not in proper attire.

a. Lab gown (knee length)

b. Closed shoes

c. Gloves

d. Mask

e. Safety glasses

f. Tied long hair (for girls)

3. Keep working areas clean and orderly at all times.

a. Bags and unnecessary things should be placed in designated area b. Place equipment in secure and stable position

c. Arrange electrical cords neatly

d. Wipe or mop spills immediately

e. Locker doors should be always closed

f. Keep the sink clean and free of solid waste materials

g. Dispose broken glass wares, solid waste and chemical waste to allocated waste

bins

4. Treat chemicals properly.

a. Treat all chemicals as TOXIC

b. Flammable and organic solvents ( acetone, benzene, etc..) should be handledinside the fumehood.

c. Never pipet by mouth, use aspirators

d. Never leave reagent bottles open

e. No hoarding of chemicals

f. Do not contaminate chemicals

g. Never bring stock bottles in one’s working area

5. Handle glasswares and equipments properly.

a. Wash and rinse glasswares before and after use.

b. Wash three times with distilled water using a wash bottle

c. Label the glasswares properly (name, concentation, date, group name)

d. Never put volumetric glasswares (graduated cylinders, vol.flask and pipets,

etc..) inside the oven

6. Report accident or injury (no matter how small it is) to the laboratory instructor forproper action.

Laboratory Requirements

1. Individual

a. lab gown, mask and gloves

b. lab notebook (Binder Refill 7” x 10”)2. Group

a. Padlockb. Matchc. Filter paper (ordinary and Whatman)d. Aluminum foile. Label or masking tapef. Markerg. Wash bottleh. Detergenti. Hand soap

j. Tissue paper or paper towelk. Rags

3. Be punctual at all times including coming to class and submitting reports.

4. Manage time effeciently as possible to prevent extension and over time.

5. Request the chemicals and glasswares needed a day before the experiment.Stockroom personnel have the option to serve or not to serve to a group with norequisition slips.

6. A group monitor will be assigned in each experiment. The group is responsible of requesting chemicals and glasswares needed, estimating the quantity, andfacilitating of such.

7. Submit lab notebooks after each experiment for checking.

Lab exam

1. Provide 1 pink book for every long exam.

In case of absence, lab performance will be zero.
