One Carton, Two Labels, One MachineThe Model 5100 Twin-Tamp

The Model 5100 Twin-Tamp systems are specifi cally engineered to print a pair of labels and apply them to adjacent panels of cartons in a single operation.

Our Twin-Tamp systems also are available with a choice of print engines to provide 203- or 300-dpi label imprinting. Han-dling a range of label sizes up to 6” wide and 6” long, each system prints information at speeds programmable up to 12” per second. Label placement is accurate to ±0.03”.

When the initial label is printed and peeled from its liner, it is fed onto a tamp pad and retained by a vacuum. The tamp pad is mounted to a 90-degree swing arm that reaches across a conveyor to blow the label on to the front panel of a moving carton. Upon the arm’s return, a second label is printed and a separate straight-line stroke applies that label to the side of the carton.

The systems also can be confi gured to label side and rear panels, or single panels.

Fast & AccurateThe Alpha V40 Series

For on-line speed and precision, label after label, look to Weber’s own Alpha V40 label applicators – avail-able with wipe-on or tamp-blow application methods.

The wipe-on model applies labels up to 4.72” wide and 19.7” long at speeds up to 210 feet per minute, while the tamp-blow unit handles labels the same width and up to 6.3” long. Both systems hold application accuracy to ±0.04”. Units are available in right- or left-hand confi gurations and can be oriented to apply labels to the top, side or bottom of a product.

Unique to the Alpha V40 is its standard, multi-function controller that features LCD readouts for monitoring the status of various operational modes. The controller also stores up to 30 label settings to ease changeover, provides automatic compensation for missing or skipped labels, and controls additional, versatile functions.

Options include various product sensors, label sensor, warning/alert light array, and more. For the automatic application of larger labels or for operations that require powered label unwind/rewind, Weber offers the same quality and dependability in its wipe-on Alpha 86 label applicator.

We’ve applied labels to everything from the ends of lumber to large pallet loads, plus every type of carton, food package, chemical drum, medical device, pharmaceutical product, potted fl ower and consumer item in-between. We have a system fi t for any labeling challenge, including RFID encoding applications.

Custom Integrated Systems:www.webermarking.com/html/integrated-systems.html

Custom SystemsThe most effective and economical

means of packaging a product can be the merging of material handling and labeling into a single operation. Weber custom integrated systems can make it all possible.

Our labeling systems are designed to fi t seamlessly into an existing packag-ing line, improving both effi ciency and productivity. Or our staff of technicians and engineers can design a completely new operation that addresses a very specifi c need.

We have built systems to address countless applications, such as product identifi cation, bar code compliance label-ing, inventory control, work-in-progress tracking, shipment addressing, and many others.

All Weber systems are rigorously tested with end-user packaging materi-als and products to assure they meet our stringent requirements. And to assure they meet the expectations of our customer.

Encode & Apply RFID Smart LabelsThe AlphaRFID Series

Weber’s AlphaRFID Series label applicators automatically encode, verify and apply pressure-sensitive RFID smart labels in one operation. In addition, if the system determines that an RFID inlay is not verifi able, the label will be rejected and retained on the smart label’s liner.

The AlphaRFID, which can be specifi ed to include either wipe-on or tamp-blow application, handles smart labels up to 4.72” wide and 6” long at high speed, yet maintains label placement tolerance at ±0.04”.

As a smart label is unwound from its supply roll, a built-in RFID encoder transmits digital information to the inlay embedded in the label material. If the data can not be verifi ed, the faulty label will be skipped and rewound prior to application.

Like the Alpha V40 applicator (see facing page), the AlphaRFID provides

dependable system control and offers various options that can add to its

versatility and functionality.

Applicators for Specifi c NeedsWeber also provides a wide range of automatic label applicators that are

designed to address specifi c pressure-sensitive labeling applications. These include systems for very high-speed lines that require labeling at rates of up to 3000” of label web per minute, special units for very large labels, and even units especially aimed at labeling straight- or tapered-wall pails, drums or barrels.

Many of these systems are engi-neered with stepper-motor technol-ogy and peel-tip sensing to enable near-perfect label placement, while they simultaneously eliminate com-mon errors like double labeling or skipping a product.

One popular example of these application-specifi c models is our Alpha Bottle Wrap System, a unit that integrates the material handling of cylindrical containers with full, overlap or partial-wrap labeling. The system ensures ac-curate label placement at dispensing speeds up to 2400” per minute.

In-bound products are delivered via a six-foot-long chain conveyor, are properly staged through the use of a metering wheel, and are fed through a wrap station for label application. Products from one to six inches in diameter can be accommodated using the system’s adjustable guide rail clamps.

Our diverse selection of Zebra-brand printers and RFID printer-encoders addresses a wide range of in-house product identifi cation applications.

Label Printers

Printing Weber’s line of stand-alone printers provides direct thermal or thermal-transfer printing on

pressure-sensitive labels and tags. We offer lightweight, economical units for

low-volume needs, as well as rugged, high-per-formance units for more demanding operations. All of these units print text, in-spec bar codes and vivid graphics and, depending on the model, boast print resolutions of 203, 300 or 600 dots per inch.

Printers are available to accommodate various label sizes. Narrow-web units print on labels as small as 0.70” wide, while wider-web models handle labels as large as 8.8” wide.

…and RFID Encoding.Our Zebra-brand RFID label printer-encoders

produce smart labels compliant with the latest EPC protocols to make it easy to meet the requirements of mass retailers and government agencies.

The units encode case- and pallet-level identifi -cation on labels embedded with RFID inlays, then instantly verify the accuracy of that information. The systems also print text, bar codes and graphics from 203 to 300 dpi and deliver them at up to 10” per second.

These are the ideal printer-encoders for streamlining logistics and supply chain management, and for applications like asset tracking, inventory man-agement, and shipping and distribution.

RFID ReadyFor companies that need a label printer now but might migrate to RFID technology in the future, select models of our Zebra printers can be upgraded to multi-protocol RFID encoders.

Labeling Software

The driving force behind every Weber label printer and printer-applicator is our exclusive Legitronic® Labeling Software. And now it includes RFID encoding features to meet the latest labeling requirements.

Versatile Label FormattingOur Legitronic software package

uses advanced functionality to make it easy to design, edit and maintain label formats, plus precisely control the operation of label printers and RFID encoders.

This software package is so fl exible that it eliminates the need to maintain a separate database for label infor-mation. Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) and Object Linking and Embed-ding (OLE) features ensure compat-ibility with many popular database, word processing and graphic design programs. Plus, remote input capa-bilities allow direct access from other devices, such as scales and PLCs.

Labels can be created from a selection of built-in features, includ-ing numerous bar code symbologies. Handy pull-down menus streamline formatting to a single screen. This VBA-enabled (Visual Basic Application) pack-age also eases custom label design and print functions.

Printing is just as simple. Legitronic Labeling Software is compatible with thermal-transfer, direct-thermal and laser label printers, as well as with standard Windows®-based printers.

The software is ideal for networks, too. It effi ciently handles multiple systems and shared fi le support, while a built-in security system restricts use and protects information.

And, if you’re complying with the newest RFID requirements of many re-tailers and government agencies, our software now supports the encoding of EPC-compatible smart labels to meet Gen 1 and Gen 2 specifi cations.

In addition, an optional version of the software includes the new Security Administrator that helps meet the requirements of FDA 21 CFR Part 11, a compliance standard regarding electronic records and electronic signatures.

In other words, the same software used to design and print labels also can help meet the very newest compliance standards. It really is that convenient.

VBA-enabled (Visual Basic Application) pack-

direct-thermal and laser label printers, as well as with

ActiveX-EnabledThrough the use of VB and C++ the user can drive Legitronic software transparently from other applications or can create custom-user-interface screens.
