ADHESIVE DESCRIPTIONSADHESIVE TYPE DESCRIPTIONPERMANENTGeneral Purpose Permanent General purpose adhesive intended for use on a broad range of common substrates such as corrugated boxes,

plastics, films, and metals.

High-Tack A permanent adhesive with a more aggressive initial bond intended for use on rough or irregular surfaces.Good choice for use in blow-on applicators.

Cold-Temp A permanent adhesive intended for use on corrugated, packaging films, and other common sustrates across a broad range of temperatures; may be applied in environments as low as -20°F.

Heavy Coat Weight (HCW) A heavy coat weight permanent adhesive designed to develop a strong bond on rough and/or contaminated surfaces for demanding labeling applications.

REMOVABLEGeneral Purpose Removable Designed to remove cleanly from a wide range of substrates. Moderate peel strength for applications

requiring medium to long-term removability.

Ultra Removable A specialty adhesive with easy peel for clean removability on challenging substrates such as glass, paper, and steel. May be reapplied to surface multiple times.

UL labels, often called nameplates or markers, convey a great deal of information. They usually identify the finished item model number, serial number, and key safety details for operation. They may also carry the UL mark, which indicates that the product has been evaluated by Underwriters Laboratories, found compliant with the applicable standards, and is subjected to regular inspection on an ongoing basis.

Standards that apply to indirect food contact where a functional barrier exists between the label and the food products.

Labels used to mark dangerous goods for overseas transport must comply with the IMDG (International Maritime Dangerous Goods) Code in accordance with international treaty (United Nations International Convention for Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS)). IMDG specifies British Standard 5609 for performance criteria. This testing is designed to ensure labels and print survive the harsh conditions experienced by a container lost at sea (such as extended marine immersion, UV exposure, and abrasion if washed ashore). Compliance is mandatory for section 2 (standards for the base label) and section 3 (performance requirements for the printed image on qualified label material).

THERMAL TRANSFER EXPLAINEDThermal Transfer uses a ribbon to image the text and bar codes on a variety of materials, both paper and film. When the ribbon is passed beneath the print head, the heat softens the ribbon ink while in contact with the label or tag, resulting inthe transfer of the ink to the surface of the label or tag. Thereare three general classes of ribbons that are used in thermal printers: Wax, Mid-range, and Resin.

Wax ribbons are the most commonly used class and are mostlytargeted to print paper labels and tags that will be exposed torelatively benign environments. Wax ribbons are also used to print on film labels and tags in some applications.

Mid-range ribbons are a hybrid design where resin is mixedwith the wax to produce ribbons with durability properties thatfall somewhere between the wax and resin ribbons. Mid-rangeribbons are used to print on both paper and film labels and tags.

Resin ribbons are the most durable and are mostly targeted to printing on film labels and tags that will be exposed to extremeenvironments.

DIRECT THERMAL EXPLAINEDDirect Thermal uses a transparent heat-sensitive coating applied to its surface to image text and bar codes. When the heat from the print head contacts the coating, it initiates a chemical reaction that turns the coating black.
