Theme: “LIVE THE ANIMO THROUGH FAITH, SERVICE AND COMMUNION”

Reading:

Matthew 11:28-30

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn

from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Reflection: What does the yoke of Jesus refer to in the Gospel? The Jews used the image of a yoke to express submission

to God. They spoke of the yoke of the law, the yoke of the commandments, the yoke of the kingdom, and the

yoke of God. Jesus says his yoke is "easy". The Greek word for "easy" can also mean "well-fitting". Yokes were

tailor-made to fit the oxen well. Oxen were yoked two by two. Jesus invites us to be yoked with him, to unite our life with his life, our will with his will, and our heart with his heart. To be yoked with Jesus is to be united

with him in a relationship of love, trust, and obedience. Do you trust in God's love and submit to his will and

plan for your life?

Prayer: "Lord Jesus, inflame my heart with love for you and for your ways and help me to exchange the

yoke of rebellion for the yoke of submission to your holy and loving word. Set me free from the folly of my own sinful ignorance and rebellious pride that I may wholly desire what is good and in accord with your will."

Laudato Si, the title chosen by Francis this time, comes from a 13th century prayer written by St. Francis of Assisi called “Canticle of the Creatures,” often referred to as the Canticle of the Sun. It can be translated both as “Be Praised” or “Praised Be,” and it reoccurs several times as the prayer praises God by thanking him for creations such as “Brother Fire” and “Sister Water.” (http://www.cruxnow.com)

LSGH HISTORY TRIVIA

The De La Salle brothers originally purchased five (5)

hectares of land from Don Francisco Ortigas, Jr. and

Rafael Ortigas Sr., both of whom were De La Salle College

Alumni.

The Brothers received an additional hectare as a donation

from the Ortigas family out of gratitude for the Brothers'

plan to put up a school on their property.

What Are Learning Disabilities?

Most learning disabilities fall into one of the two categories: verbal and nonverbal.

People with verbal learning disabilities have difficulty with words, both in spoken and in written. The

most common and well-known verbal learning disability is dyslexia, which causes people to have

trouble recognizing or processing letters and the sounds associated with them. For this reason,

someone with dyslexia has trouble with reading and writing tasks or assignments.

Some people with verbal learning disabilities may be able to read or write just fine but struggle with other

aspects of language. For example, they may be able to sound out a sentence or paragraph perfectly,

making them good readers, but they can't relate to the words in ways that will allow them to make sense

of what they're reading (such as forming a picture of a thing or situation).

And some people have trouble with the act of writing as their brains struggle to control the many things

that go into it — from moving their hand to form letter shapes to remembering the correct grammar rules

involved in writing down a sentence.

People with nonverbal learning disabilities may have difficulty processing what they see. They may have

trouble making sense of visual details like numbers on a blackboard. Someone with a nonverbal learning

disability may confuse the plus sign with the sign for division, for example. Some abstract concepts like

fractions may be difficult to master for people with nonverbal learning disabilities.
