*Call to Worship ~ from Revelation 5
Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands
upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand.
In a loud voice they were saying:
“Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth
and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!”
Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth
and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying:
“To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and
honor and glory and power for ever and ever, Amen!”
*Opening Hymn UM Hymnal, 307
“Christ Is Risen”
Opening PrayerYou have risen, O Christ and we look for your life in the lives
around us. It grieves us that, even in the midst of your rising, there
are still places of darkness and death in our lives and in the world.
O God, break in with your resurrection power and make a way for
our land, our Church, and our spirits as we tread this ground. Place
in us the light of the Risen Christ that we might illumine every dark
place and call your name in the midst of death itself! We shall not
be moved, but stand firm in the light of your Life, lived among us.
In the name that is above every name, Jesus, we pray, Amen.

The Scripture LessonsJohn 21: 1-17 (NIV)Afterward Jesus appeared again to his disciples, by the Sea of Galilee. It happened
this way: Simon Peter, Thomas (also known as Didymus), Nathanael from Cana
in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two other disciples were together. “I’m going
out to fish,” Simon Peter told them, and they said, “We’ll go with you.” So they
went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing. Early in the
morning, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did not realize that it was
Jesus. He called out to them, “Friends, haven’t you any fish?” “No,” they
answered.
He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.”
When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number
of fish.
Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” As soon as
Simon Peter heard him say, “It is the Lord,” he wrapped his outer garment around
him (for he had taken it off) and jumped into the water. The other disciples
followed in the boat, towing the net full of fish, for they were not far from shore,
about a hundred yards. When they landed, they saw a fire of burning coals there
with fish on it, and some bread.
Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish you have just caught.” So Simon Peter
climbed back into the boat and dragged the net ashore. It was full of large fish,
153, but even with so many the net was not torn. Jesus said to them, “Come and
have breakfast.” None of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew
it was the Lord. Jesus came, took the bread and gave it to them, and did the same
with the fish. This was now the third time Jesus appeared to his disciples after he
was raised from the dead.
When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do
you love me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.”
Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.” Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love
me?”
He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Take care of my
sheep.”
The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”
Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said,
“Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.
Luke 24: 34-35 (NIV)They got up and returned at once to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven
and those with them, assembled together and saying, “It is true! The Lord has
risen and has appeared to Simon.” Then the two told what had happened on
the way, and how Jesus was recognized by them when he broke the bread.
Living Into God’s Word1. How does having a “little talk with Jesus” makes thingsright in your life?
2. Peter found out the Lord was there and jumped right out ofthe boat. What is another experience of Peter’s where he “gotout of the boat” to be with Jesus? (Use Matthew 14:29) to jogyour memory if you need to)
3. Peter left the comfort of the boat to be with Jesus. When isthe last time you went outside of your comfort zone for Jesus? What happened?
4. Jesus asked Peter three times if he loved Jesus. How manytimes has he asked YOU?
5. How have you “fed Jesus’ sheep”?
6. Jesus appeared to Peter another time, which is notdetailed in the bible. Why do you think that is?
7. (From Luke 24)...The Lord has risen and appeared to_________!
8. How many times, according to the gospels, did the risenChrist appear to Peter?
9. Secret, spiritual knowledge is known as ___________.

the past two years as Editor of our online newsletter, The Grapevine. Tricia has
done a wonderful job at collecting stories, selecting graphics, and working with
the office staff to try to make sure we don't miss anything. We have enjoyed
working with her and she will be missed.
Sherri Hastings has graciously accepted the position of Editor beginning with
the May 12 issue. You can send your articles to her at
[email protected] beginning Monday, May 6. Remember that the
deadline to submit articles is 4:00 PM on Wednesday afternoon.
As you see these ladies after service or around the community, please thank
them personally. It is through their willingness that the ministries, missions, and
opportunities of our church have and will continue to be lifted up so that we can
participate, bless and be blessed, and bear witness to our God. Bless you both!

SPECIAL INVITATION - As many of you may already know, our current District
Superintendent, Rev. Rebecca Iannicelli's term as a District Superintendent comes
to an end effective July 1, 2019. Rev. Iannicelli has done a phenomenal job in
giving leadership to our District for the past six years. We are truly grateful for her
work and have been honored to have her as our Superintendent.
In order that we might celebrate the ministry of Rev. Iannicelli, the District
Superintendency Committee is planning a Farewell Celebration of Service for her
to be held starting at 3PM Sunday June 2, 2019 at the Charles County Fair Grounds
(8440 Fairground Road, La Plata, MD 20646).
The District is asking for a head count for this celebration so adequate
preparations can be made. Please call the church office or write "Celebration of
Service" on the attendance pads. The location is so close (that almost NEVER
happens) so you are encouraged to come and give thanks for our DS! Please RSVP
in the ways mentioned above BEFORE May, 17, 2019. SEE YOU THERE!
ASP MILE OF PENNIES FUND RAISER UPDATE - You have contributed $347 so
far, giving us 41% toward our goal of a mile of pennies. Thanks so much for your
generosity. This will help defray our transportation costs for our trips to Tennessee
and Virginia this summer.
GRADUATE SUNDAY - Graduate Sunday has been set for June 2. If you have
anyone in your family graduating please e-mail or call Karen in the church office
to share their information. Graduates from high school, college, post graduate,
vocational or other programs will be recognized during services on June 2. Please
contact Karen by May 29 so that information can be included in the bulletin.
WHAT'S IN A NAME? - La Plata UMC is in the process of starting a mid-week
Prayer Moment on Facebook Live. Included would be a quick devotional, Prayers
for those on the prayer list and an opportunity for you to ask for prayer in real
time. It would last 15-20 minutes and would be a spiritual fuel injection for anyone
who would need it. As we iron out other details, I have a question for you! This
spiritual pick-me-up needs a name! What would be a good name for this online
prayer time? The name should be descriptive, creative, and eye-catching. It should
make you want to tune in to see what all the fuss is about! Call or stop by the
Church Office with your submission. The deadline is June 1. Thanks for praying...I
mean playing!
SUMMER CAMP - There is still time to sign up for summer camp through Baltimore
Washington Conference. Week long residential camps are offered at West River and
Manidokan, and this year we have children and youth going to both camps!
Several children are headed to West River July 14 - 19 and youth are headed to
Manidokan August 4 - 9. If you are interested in going to summer camp with a
Christian focus, check out: bwccampsandretreats.com. Since our church is one of
the top church's in the conference to send folks to camp, we have a bonus discount
code for registration this year!! It is for a limited number, but I have one code left
and am happy to share it with anyone who plans to go! Campership money is also
available. Please talk with Corrie Roberts about campership money, coupon codes,
or any questions in general.
WORSHIPWORSHIP SCHEDULE - The Sunday morning worship schedule is: Café Worship
at 8:30 AM in Fellowship Hall 2, and Traditional Worship in the Sanctuary at 11:00
AM.
NURSERY IS AVAILABLE - Nursery care for little ones (ages 0-4 yrs) is available
during the 11:00 Sunday morning service. If your little one becomes unsettled and
is in need of more care, please contact an usher who can direct you to the nursery
or to the rocking chairs in the back. We are grateful to the staff and volunteers that
help us provide a nursery each week.
If you are a parent or a grandparent of young children, or you just want to
spend some time with the youngest in our congregation, consider signing up to
volunteer in the Nursery. To volunteer, or for information, contact Alyssa Wheeler
HEARING ASSIST DEVICES - are available, please see an usher to obtain one.
SERVICE & CARINGFOOD PANTRY NEEDS YOUR HELP - The Food Pantry is requesting your
donations of the following items, grape jelly, canned peaches, pears, mandarin
oranges, applesauce, (no peel off cups please), pasta meal bags, baked beans,
soups, children's juice boxes, snack items for kids (individual wrapped cookies,
cheese crackers etc.). You may place your donated items in the Food Donation Box
in the front entrance. Pet food donations are always appreciated. You can also
make monetary donations, just write "Food Pantry" in the memo line of your check,
or give online.
FAITH SHARINGPLEASE INVITE YOUR FRIENDS - It is the simplest and most effective way to
share Christ with others: just invite your friends to church with you. Most
people who grew up as Christians and who aren't in a church say they
just haven't found a church they like, and because no one has invited them. Most
people if you ask, will say yes to an invitation. Just ask them to come to church for
a special event, or special Sunday, or to hear a sermon you think will help them.
HAS GOD BLESSED YOU? - When God answers our prayers, or provides healing,
or helps us find a job or get a promotion; when God has touched our lives – we
have a responsibility to tell others what God has done. This is a great way to start
a conversation about our faith with those who know us. Tell them how you feel
about being touched by God, or how God has answered your prayers.
MAKE A NEW FRIEND TODAY - As you enter Church today to worship, look
around and see if you can find someone you don't know. During Passing of the
Peace, make a point to introduce yourself to them and invite them to join you in
an activity of the Church. If you can't get to them during the Passing of the Peace,
hang around for a bit after worship and strike up a conversation with them. In
time you'll discover if they are long lost members, or here for the first time. Either
way, you get to make a new friend. Thank you for being one of the friendliest and
most caring congregations around.
ADMINISTRATIONSTEWARDSHIP - Please be sure that the outer doors close firmly and are locked
when you leave the building. Turn out the lights when you leave a room. Turn off
the heat/air conditioner in the room you are using. These are all things we can do
to keep our building secure, our members safe, and our operating costs down.
