My dear Parishioners,
While there is much to discuss today about church and world
events, I want to jump ahead to next Sunday, “Good Shepherd”
Sunday and World Day of Prayer for Vocations. As it turns out,
we will be celebrating as a parish, the 60th anniversary of my ordi-
nation to the Priesthood. Quite naturally, I have been thinking
about that and thanking God for the privilege of serving Him and
his people for all these years as a priest. But I have also been think-
ing about vocations to the priesthood and religious life, especially in
regard to this parish of St. Paul of the Cross.
Since 1955, 32 Passionist priests and Brothers have served this
community, thirteen as pastors. Over these 63 years, the parish as
not offered one man to either the secular or religious priesthood.
Think about that! I believe that at least one woman became a reli-
gious during that time. I believe that currently, the Archdiocese has
about 60 seminarians, some of whom will be ordained in a few
short weeks. Over the years I have been here, I have encouraged
many young men to consider the priesthood as one of the options
they have in life. It is God who gives the call but we must be dis-
posed to hearing that call. By “we”, I mean the whole community.
We are all responsible through prayer and encouragement to gener-
ate an environment friendly to church vocations, an atmosphere
where the voice of God may be heard inviting individuals to serve
God and neighbor in ordained ministry and consecrated life. If you
observe a person who you believe has the qualities you would look
for in a good priest or deacon or religious, speak personally with
them, encourage them and assure them that you pray for them. You
may be opening the door for someone to enter upon an unbelievably
fulfilling life , one with crosses to be sure, but one that I can say
personally that I would not trade for anything in this world.
—Fr. Jerome, C.P.

The Family of Louise Todd would like to express our deep appreciation for the outpouring of love, support, prayers, and special masses offered in memory of the Christian burial for our beloved matriarch. They were all such a healing source of comfort during this difficult time. Thanks again for providing the delicious meals we shared. We are blessed to be part of a wonderful, extended Catholic family…“We are many, but in Christ we are all one body…”. Thanks, also, for the contributions in memoriam to the Capital Campaign and Alzheimer’s Association. Your thoughtfulness and kindness will always be remembered. Please continue to keep our family in your prayers. May God continue to bless us all.
