Universal Call to Holiness With the Feast of the Ascension, Jesus returns to heaven and charges his disciples with the reminder that we are ALL called to spread the “Good News”. This is God’s plan. There is the duty of the Christian community to evangelize, that is, to communicate the life vision that is contained in the New Testa-ment and especially the Gospel. It must be stressed that this is not simply the responsibility of the clergy or of religious men and women or full-time missionaries. Rather, it is the duty of every single Christian, arising from the very na-ture of being a disciple of Jesus. We as Christians do not do this alone. Jesus promised “I will be with you always, till the very end of time.” How good is that?! He came among us as “Emmanuel” – that is, “God is with us.” And through his Holy Spirit, he continues to work with and through us, accomplishing much good, or as St. John calls it, “bearing much fruit.”
