The Italian Parish of Indianapolis
B envenuto! Welcome to Holy Rosary
Church! Whether you are a lifelong
parishioner, a first-time visitor to our
parish, or someone in between, we
are grateful you have joined us today.
Founded in 1909 as the Italian Parish of
Indianapolis, we continue to serve as
the parish home of people of Italian
heritage and also embrace all Catholics
in union with Rome, including those
devoted to the Traditional Latin Mass
(Extraordinary Form) and the Anglican
Usage of the Roman Rite.
In the words of our founding pastor,
Msgr. Marino Priori:
“The church is the temple of the
Lord, the gate of heaven. Come after a
week of earthly cares, after so much
toil, after so many sorrows, after so
much pain. Rest your limbs. Regenerate
your spirit at the sources of grace.
Raise your mind to God; thank Him for
the benefits received through His
creation and in daily life; ask for
strength so you can win all of life’s
struggles, and be able to possess the
fruits of redemption.”

Announcements
We will take up a second collection this weekend
for the Propagation of the Faith.
Join us for the Parish Breakfast today (Sunday) in
Priori Hall from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. All you can eat for
only $6 per person with a maximum $30 per family.
October is the Month of the Holy Rosary. The
Confraternity of the Most Holy Rosary encourages
the public recitation of the rosary at every daily Mass
for the sanctification of the Church and world peace.
We invite you to grow in holiness by joining a
group of parishioners on Sunday, Nov. 4, as they be-
gin preparing for Marian consecration: 33 Days to
Morning Glory. The group will meet from 1 p.m. to
2 p.m. in our first-floor classroom. For six weeks,
they will read about and reflect on four great Marian
giants: St. Louis de Montfort, St. Maximilian Kolbe,
St. Teresa of Calcutta and St. John Paul II. Those
saints will teach the secrets to drawing closer to the
Heart of Jesus through the Heart of Mary. Meetings
also will include a 30-minute video by Fr. Michael
Gaitley, MIC. For more information, contact Lori
Brown at 317-753-8434.
The Gabriel Project of Holy Rosary Parish is
looking to train another “Angel” to help with moms
in need. This commitment requires about one mom
per year for a few months. It is rewarding to help
save a child in danger of abortion. For more informa-
tion, contact Paula Stahl at [email protected].
The last Faithful Citizens Rosary Walk of 2018
will be here on Saturday, Oct. 27, after the 10 a.m.
Mass. Participants will pray the rosary and Divine
Mercy Chaplet as they walk through our neighbor-
hood in support of Life, Family and Religious Free-
dom.
Please pray for our sick and shut-in friends: Deb-

NOVEMBER: MONTH OF THE HOLY SOULS “From the beginning the Church has honored the memory of the dead and offered prayers in suffrage for
them, above all the Eucharistic sacrifice, so that, thus purified, they may attain the beatific vision of God.”
— Catechism of the Catholic Church
Be sure to assist your deceased loved ones by including them in our annual All Souls Remem-
brance. Write their names on one of the envelopes available at the St. Joseph Altar — an offering
is optional. We will place these envelopes on our high altar throughout the month of November. Purgatory, Gustav Dore

Second of a two-part article
T he world of contraception is nothing more than
a shallow, satanic fantasy in which the selfish
pursuit of pleasure or the abuse of the procreative
faculty results in the destruction of marriage and
families. This destruction of the basic building
blocks of society leads to the destruction of society at
large. Yet, ironically, the common refrain people tell
themselves is, “Everything is better now.”
Everything is not better now. But, it could be. The
reality of human marital love and the procreative
purpose of conjugal relations is beautifully outlined
in Humanae Vitae, the papal encyclical published by
Pope St. Paul VI in 1968. If you are married, whether
you are Catholic or not, you should read this brief,
easy-to-understand encyclical.
Children are a beautiful gift from God. They are
always good. ALWAYS GOOD! More children are
more good. To paraphrase Mother Teresa, flowers
are always beautiful.
That does not mean that children are not a burden.
They are a burden. They will cause you to suffer. To
ignore this is foolish. The question is, are they lov-
able. Can you love them? The answer is, of course,
yes. Now, look to the crucifix. Remind yourself and
the world about the truth that the Cross is the full
revelation of human love.
Love is what Satan hates. Love is what he attacks.
Children are the incarnation of marital love. What
Satan “loves” is when he can convince people to en-
gage in sex, relationships, etc., and exclude love. His
favorite lie is that you can have Love without the
Cross. (If you do not think that lack of children can
undermine marital love, speak to a couple who have
struggled with infertility about the strains that par-
ticular cross puts on marriage.)
To heal our society we need good, holy families.
We need children raised up in good, holy families.
We need lots of them. How can you make everything
better? Support families in developing virtue, and
support families when they have children. Children
are a cross. Many children are many little crosses.
Offer to help families that have been open to life.
Married couples with young children dream of an
evening (or maybe even two) each week with adult
conversation. Facilitate that. Get to know those cou-
ples. Offer to babysit and mean it. Free, good, trust-
worthy babysitters are worth double or triple their
weight in gold to those couples.
When parents are struggling to juggle many kids at
Church, offer to sit in the pew and help. Or just offer
to sit in the pew to block an escape route. Give them
a gift card to a nice restaurant for a date night. En-
courage them with positive words. Give them help-
ful, non-judgmental tips for disciplining kids. Be pa-
tient when their kids misbehave. Offer to come over
to their houses and clean or fold laundry. Pray for
them. Being open to children (especially many chil-
dren) in our society today is punished with some of
the nastiest and cruelest societal judgment, so stand
up for them and pray for them. And be hopeful; the
children are our future.
If you are married and of child-bearing age, be
open to having children — and then more children.
Be prudent, for sure, but remember to fight the pres-
sure of societal “norms.” Those are not God’s norms.
Work hard at growing in personal virtue and at being
virtuous parents. Uncorrected bad behavior in chil-
dren is always scandalous. Being an imperfect parent
is not being a bad parent. Being an imperfect parent
is not being a bad parent. Being an imperfect parent
is not being a bad parent. However, failing to disci-
pline your children and hold them accountable for
their bad behavior is being a bad parent, and creates
scandal to other couples and the world.
If you are struggling with disciplining your children,
ask for help. No one is born a perfect parent. Parent-
ing is a learned behavior. Study, make mistakes, learn
from those mistakes, ask for help, and then study
some more. If you do this, you will become a better
parent with each passing day, week, month, year. Continued on page 6

40 Days for Life
The 40 Days for Life fall campaign is still going strong. Pictured above, the Frecker Family (right to left: Lisa, Nick, Nikki, baby Marie, Joy) joined us last Saturday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. to pray outside the Planned Parenthood abortion clinic at 86th Street and Georgetown Road — this went above and beyond the usual 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. slot covered by Holy Rosary parishioners.
A baby shower on Sunday, Nov. 4, at 2 p.m. will mark the end of the fall campaign; it will be held at St. Luke Catholic Church, 7575 Holliday Dr. E. Please bring a baby item for the Gabriel Project Re-source Centers at Little Flower and St. Joseph parishes.
Parish prayer group to study
apparitions of Our Lady of America
I n the middle of the 20th century, the Blessed Vir-
gin Mary — calling herself, “Our Lady of Amer-
ica, Immaculate Virgin” — appeared in private reve-
lations to Sr. Mary Ephrem (Mildred Neuzil) of the
Precious Blood Sisters. These revelations, many of
which occurred in a convent chapel near Rome City,
Indiana, also included apparitions of Our Lord, St.
Joseph, St. Gabriel and St. Michael.
Our Lady asked Sr. Mary Ephrem to draw a picture
according to the vision, and that a statue of Our
Lady of America be constructed accordingly. She
further requested that this statue be carried into the
Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate
Conception in Washington, D.C., in solemn proces-
sion by the bishops and then remain there. Our Lady
said that if this is done, the United States will turn
back toward morality and the Basilica will become a
great place of pilgrimage.
All are invited to learn more about Our Lady of
America and the messages to Sr. Mary Ephrem at
the Our Lady of Guadalupe Prayer Group meeting
on Wednesday, Oct. 24, at 6:30 p.m. in our first-
floor classroom. The evening will begin with recita-
tion of the rosary. Study materials will be available.
For more information about the meeting, contact Ka-
tie Willen at 317-432-9174.

To put it into perspective, think
about what’s involved in making
anything. For example, have you
ever built a box out of wood?
Imagine you were given a stack
of wood, a hammer and some
glue, and then were told to make
a box. What would it look like?
If you wanted it to be better and
stronger, what would you need to
do? You might need to talk to a
carpenter. You might want to
find a carpenter who not only
made boxes, but made them
strong and attractive. You might
need to obtain some screws or
nails. You might need to find or
borrow a drill, saw or screw-
driver. You might want to learn
about things like dovetail joints.
Kids, of course, are more com-
plicated than simple wooden
boxes. You are going to need
some help learning how to be a
good parent, and how to obtain
the resources necessary to be a
good parent. You are going to
need some practice. You will get
better over time.
Finally, remember that your
children are not about you. You
should not have children because
you want them, but because they
are good. They are a good unto
themselves and, when well
raised, a good for society as a
whole. So, read Humanae Vitae.
Be open to children. Consider the
good of children in themselves
and be generous.
