Understanding CAT Cat 5: Currently unrecognized by TIA/EIA. Defined up to 100 MHz, and was frequently used on 100 Mbit/s Ethernet networks. May be unsuitable for 1000BASE-T gigabit ethernet. CAT-5 is rated to 100M Cat 5e: Currently defined in TIA/EIA-568-B. Defined up to 100 MHz, and is frequently used for both 100 Mbit/s and 1000BASE-T Gigabit Ethernet networks. CAT-5e is rated to 350M. Cat 6: Currently defined in TIA/EIA-568-B. Defined up to 250 MHz, more than double category 5 and 5e. CAT-6 and CAT6e is rated to 550M or 1000M depending on your source. Cat 7: An informal name appl ie d to ISO/ IEC 11801 Cl ass F cablin g. Def ine d up to 600 MHz. Thi s sta nda rd spe cif ies four individually-shielded pairs (STP) inside an overall shield. CAT-7 is supposedly rated to 700M or presumably 1000M 10-step total networking You can get a complete home network up and running in 10 easy steps. Here's a summary of what's involved: 1. Take sto ck of your exi sti ng har dwar e. 2. If you wish to shar e an Int ern et conne cti on using Int ernet Conne cti on Shari ng (ICS), choose which computer will be your ICS host. 3. Decide what type of ne twork technol ogy y ou wi sh t o use. 4. Make a lis t of the h ardwar e yo u need for each co mpute r. 5. Inst all the net work ada ptors an d insta ll your modem on the ICS host comput er. 6. Phy sic all y cabl e the comput ers t oget her . 7. Swit ch on al l comp uters , pri nters and ot her per ipher als. 8. Make sure the I CS h ost is connected to t he Internet. 9. Run t he Net wor k Set up Wi zar d on the I CS ho st. 10. Run the Network Setup Wizard on the other computers on the network. Let's take that step by step.
