Information and Communication

The English word “COMMUNICATION” comes from a Latin

noun ‘communis’ and Latin verb ‘Communicare’ which means –

To share, or

To make common

But, What is it that we share in Communication?

It is the ‘INFORMATION’, i.e. something to tell, in whatever

way we like, or, as the situation demands.

Communication is not just an act, it is actually a process by

which meanings like information, ideas, emotions, skills,

knowledge are exchanged/transmitted between people

through the use of a

common set of symbols, words, pictures, figures, Graphs,

drawings, illustrations etc

There are auditory (verbal) means, such as speaking, singing and

sometimes tone of voice

nonverbal, physical means, such as body language, gestures,

sign language,, touch, eye contact, or the use of writing.

Communication : as a process
