She further described the Minister as an epitome of courage who has waded through the tides in the education sector to bring about the needed transformation within a very short period of time.

Chairman of the occasion, Senator Ibrahim Mantu acceded that Chief Wike is a man of courage who is spending his life on things that outlive life.

To the Chairman of the Tertiary Education Trustfund (TETFUND), Mr Musa Babayo, Chief Nwike is a good manager of men and resources, having ensured adequate funding of key aspects of the tertiary institutions programmes and projects.

Executive Secretary, Universal Basic Education Commission, Dr Suleiman Dikko said because the Almajiri project is a success story today, children now learn in a conducive environment. The National President of NAWOJ, Comrade Asabe Baba Nahaya had in her welcome address read by Aisha Kadara of FCT branch said “as the voice of women in the media and as purveyors of news, we are always bowled over when we stumble on good news.” She said they were honouring the Minister for freeing Nigerian Students from the stronghold of ASUU (Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities) and for his belief in quality education.

The Registrar noted that Librarians' Registration Council of Nigeria was glad to be part of the success story in the education sector. “The Federal Government intervention in the library sector through provision of books, other library materials and infrastructural development in schools had re-positioned libraries to play a key role in educational development.”

Dr Okojie attends 'Beyond Access' Conference

The Registrar/CEO of Librarians' Registration Council of Nigeria, Dr Victoria Okojie participated in the 2013 edition of Beyond Access Africa Conference held from 4 – 8 December, 2013 at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. Beyond Access is a

global Movement of people and organizations that work to promote libraries as centers of economic and social change.

The Movement believes that in health, youth, gender, economic development and countless other areas, libraries around the world help improve people's lives and strengthen their communities.57 participants registered for the conference. Dr Okojie participated under Friends of Beyond Access category at the instance of the International Research and Exchange (IREX). Friends of Beyond Access are a special group of development practitioners who understand how libraries can drive social and economic development.

The LRCN Department of Administration organized a send-forth party for its out- going Chief Administrative Officer, Mr Pius Egija on Thursday 5 December, 2013. The event which held at LRCN Conference hall had members of staff in attendance.

They eulogised Mr Ejiga for his contributions to the growth of the Council and wished him well in his present Office as a Deputy Director in another agency of the Federal Government.

The former (pioneer) Administrative officer of LRCN would be remembered for always resuming work early every day of his working life in the Council. He crafted a number of policies for the Council and provided the administrative framework for smooth running of the LRCN activities. An Assistant Chief Administrative Officer, Mr Adetimi Adeyanju has already stepped in his stead in an acting capacity and is proving his mettle as a round peg in a round hole.

The team brainstorming

The 2013 annual retreat of the Librarians' Registration Council of Nigeria Management held 19 and 20

December, 2013 in Abuja produced the 2014 Strategic Action Plan.The 9-page document highlights all activities expected to hold in 2014. It captures the goals, objectives, time frame, and expected outcomes among others for each activity. The document was drafted by the Professional Services Department but was ratified by the Management at the retreat. In her remark at the opening of the meeting, the Registrar/CE of LRCN, Dr Victoria Okojie said the aim of the retreat was to review activities carried out in 2013; review the lessons learnt and plan for 2014. This she said would impact positively on the growth and development of the Council. Dr Okojie then charged the team to participate actively and honestly in the meeting.
