MAJOR

CHANGES:

The purpose of this Memorandum is to provide the tentative sites, feeder schools, and

programs for the 2013 Special Education Summer Session Extended School

Year (ESY). Please note that due to various individual facilities and Maintenance and

Operations projects, sites may be changed. The proposed dates for elementary and

secondary ESY programs are July 8, 2013 to August 2, 2013.

Attachment B (page 4) has been revised. In ESC-South, Fleming MS (Loc. Code

8127) will be the host site, not White MS.

BACKGROUND: California Education Code (Section 56345) mandates that school districts provide

students with disabilities Extended School Year (ESY)/Intersession programming when

the student requires special education and related services in excess of the regular

academic school year and the Individualized Education Program (IEP) team has

determined the need for ESY.

INSTRUCTIONS: All summer school teaching positions must be applied for online at

https://summer.lausd.net. Teachers may only apply to teach a special education program

that is within their credentialed area. Certificated and classified applicants may only

apply to one site, and, if not selected at that site, must make themselves available for

assignments at all schools in that geographic area. The geographic region code (GRC) is

listed to indicate these regions.
