KVPY notification was announced on the Technology Day An initiative of Government of India, Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is a program that attracts brilliant minds to pursue research in the field of Basic Sciences. Initiated in the year 1999, KVPY program is funded by Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. The program aims to spot brilliant minds and direct them to engage in research and help in the development of the country. The brilliant minds spotted by the means of the program are offered scholarship during their undergraduate and postgraduate studies. Under the program students can opt for B.Sc./B.S./ B.Math. /B.Stat./ Integrated M.S /M.Sc. program in various subjects. Notifications related to the program are released on May 11, which is celebrated as Technology day. Although the selected candidates receive the benefits of the program after they start their graduation but they can appear in the KVPY Examination while they are studying in class 11. In the year 2014, more than one lakh students participated in the KVPY Examination, out of them only 1200 were selected for the award of the scholarship, so just 1.2% of the students were deemed fit for the scholarship. Those selected for the scholarship will get monthly scholarships along with other benefits. Let us have a look at the benefits & prizes of the KVPY Scholarship: Monthly Stipend: The rate of monthly stipend differs with the level of studies i.e. the students engaged in Graduate level studies receive monthly stipend @ Rs.5000 per month while students involved in Postgraduate level of studies receive Rs.7000 per month as their monthly stipend. Contingency Grant: Under KVPY Scholarship, Students receive annual contingency grant of Rs.2000 during graduation and while post-graduation studies they receive the contingency grant of Rs.28000. Summer Program : Summer programs are integral part of KVPY program as they act as a catalyst in developing student’s interest in scientific research. Other Privileges: Many of the reputed Laboratories and Universities allow KVPY fellow to use the facilities offered by them. KVPY fellows can access libraries, Laboratories and other facilities offered with the help of their KVPY issued Identity Card.

Renewal of the Scholarship: The scholarship will be renewed annually. For a candidate to be eligible for renewal of the scholarship, they must score at least 60% marks in their Academic examinations in their first attempt. Along with that participation and performance in the Summer Camp is also required.

o Students who failed to secure 60% marks will forfeit the scholarship. However, in the subsequent year if they get 60% marks on aggregate over all the previous years, the scholarship will be renewed from that year.
