Give online at www.yfc.net/give/andersonkurtcindy Dear friends, Many of you know that I (Cindy) worked for ten years at a local funeral home in a small town. One of the main lessons in life that I have taken from that season of serving the wonderful people of that little town is: It is all about the relationships. The memories that were shared at a time of loss were about the person and how that person affected lives around them. The soul of a person is individual and irreplaceable. This realization is normally most acute when saying goodbye to the “castle” that once used to house the soul gone from us. You are probably thinking this is really a depressing way to begin a Christmas newsletter. But I am going to kindly ask you to consider it more a letter of tribute and thanks to the people that cross our relational paths in the past, present and future. A large part of who we are is because of the people that God brings in to our lives. Honoring those people that have gone on to sit at the feet of Jesus in heaven is the right thing to do. But how much more appropriate is honoring those that are still with us, those folks that bless us just by allowing us to be a part of their lives? Kurt and I are over here working through relational ministry with military teens because God told us to come and demonstrate God’s love and desire to meet with every soul. We are both changed hearts because we said “yes” to serving wherever we are told to go. For every person that we have met and built friendships with on either side of the ocean, we have come away with more than we could ever give in terms of grace and mercy. By reaching out relationally, we have been given unmerited love. We are incredibly humbled by this. This will be our ninth Christmas overseas and our second one without the boys with us. Since leaving in 2004, we have been able to make it home only once to be with our families during the holiday time. Gosh, it is easy to get lost in the thoughts of being home sick, wishing we could find a real life Scotty from Star Trek to beam us where we want to be. Hopefully you can sense there is a “however” coming in this train of thought. There is one. I have spent the afternoon thinking about each Christmas and New Year, where we were, who we were with, recalling at least one thing about them and most times many great memories. It was enlightening to think on them. No matter what the circumstances were, there was something to be learned and treasured in those numerous relational Christmas gifts from God. This coming Christmas our time will be spent here at home with just the two of us. Both of our boys will be stateside with their little families. We plan to use up a lot of bandwidth and time on Skype with them! A few days after Christmas, we will head down to Austria with our military teens and have a blast doing some of that relational Continued... ministry at Winter Blitz. Kurt will be part of the leadership team that keeps things rolling. I also think he is hoping for toboggan hill duty again. I have been invited to be a small group leader for the Aviano group again. Ah shucks…twist my arm! It will be fantastic to be with some of the same teens that were at Service Project. I know we will get to continue having great conversations and a lot of laughter. I am going to take skiing lessons with some of the teens. I’m thinking that will be a reason for some of the laughter. Please remember to pray for every soul to be reached and for the safety of everyone participating at this event. OH! At the time I am writing this, Thanksgiving is still a week away. We get to have a house full of company! Amy Donathan, the community director at Incirlik, Turkey, and her family will be coming the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. She is bringing FIVE of her volunteers with her! But wait, it gets even better… Kurt had two of our former club kids, now grown; ask to come down for the day. One is an airman stationed at Ramstein AB and the other is working at Spangdahlem AB. Add our two good German neighbor friends from next door into the mix and that brings our table count to 15. What a great little crowd it will be! Since Thanksgiving is an American holiday, there won’t be any black Friday crowds. We have made it our tradition to spend Friday evening wandering through the Heidelberg Weinachtsmarkt (Christmas market). We are pretty excited to take Amy and her gang with us, too. We will say goodbye and put the Incirlik group back on a plane Saturday evening. Yup, it will be another one of those irreplaceable…”Dear Kurt and Cindy … Love, God” gifts. As you celebrate the birth of Christ this year, we pray you make many wonderful memories with those around you.

The Word became flesh and took up residence among us.

We observed His glory, the glory as the One and Only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. —John 1:14
