What is continuity editing?-Continuity refers to the way shots go together to create a seamless chain of events.

-Continuity editing is telling a story with narrative continuity by cutting shots together to help the viewer make sense of the action.

- This is achieved by implying spatial relationships and ensuring smooth flow from shot to shot.

The Kuleshov Effect is a film editing (montage) effect demonstrated by Russian filmmaker Lev Kuleshov in the 1910s and 1920s.

It is therefore not the content of the images in a film which is important, but their combination.

The raw material does not need to be original, but elements which can be disassembled and re-assembled by the artist into new juxtapositions. – CREATING A DIFFERENT MEANING.

In pairs; create a Storyboard of 3 cutaways and 3 reactions. Each person in the pair must produce one storyboard. (15 minutes)

What is important about the reaction shot?

The reaction shot always stays the same! It is the editing that creates the meaning.

Creating your Scene

Create a 1 minute scene in college using a Kodak camera. (15 minutes).

Edit your shots together in Premiere and save to your ‘movies’ folder and your usb. (15minutes).

Upload your scene onto YouTube and upload to Moodle.
