How does Spark Erosion work?

The Spark Erosion Process works on the principle of a vibrating

spindle with electrical power supply creating a series of arcs occur-

ring 120 times per second to the bolt or tap that needs to be

removed. Cutting takes place at the tip of the graphite electrode

with 4 bar water pressure running through the centre cooling and

flushing the material as it is being eroded. There is a very low risk of

damage to the threads and this leaves a tapped hole ready for a

replacement stud to be inserted.

The main benefit of the Spark Erosion method is that no force or

heat is transferred to the parent part when material is being eroded

and therefore there is virtually no damage to the parent part.

Workshop and facilities

Our Workshop is used for making graphite electrodes & special

tooling for customers unique needs and we have a 24 hour turna-

round. We also hold a strategic stock holding of graphite electrodes

at our workshop, covering a range of sizes & shapes, facilitating fast

reaction. We also carry out all maintenance work on our spark ero-

sion equipment here to ensure that we supply you, the customer,

with the most effective and reliable service possible. Our

Spark Erosion workshop is also available for any in-house spark

erosion on small parts that are more manageable to transport for

repair.
