    Piecing: Center Block: 1. Transfer spinning sun template markings onto a 12” square of paper. Cut out center and beyond outer edge. Cut circle open along one line. 2. Using photo as a guide and following standard paper-piecing instructions, stitch the spinning sun using Fabrics B and C. Trim starting and ending seams ” beyond edge of paper and sew together with a ” seam to complete the circle. 3. Turn under edge of Fabric A circle ” and machine-appliqué in center of spinning sun. 4. Sew (4) 6 ” Fabric B squares together. Transfer template B markings to template plastic and cut out. Lay template in each outer corner of the Fabric B block and trim ” beyond inner edge of template. Using template as a guide, press inner curved edge under ”. 5. Center the B piece on the spinning sun unit and machine-applique in place. Remove paper from spinning sun and trim away excess seam allowances to ”. Circle Blocks (4): 1. Sew (3) 6 ” Fabric C squares and (1) Fabric B square together to make a 4-patch block, as shown. 2. Fold each 12” Fabric D square in quarters. Transfer template C markings to template plastic and cut out. Place corner of template at inner corner of folded square and trim off outer corners by cutting ” beyond curved edge of circle. Press outer edge of circle under ” using the template as a guide. 3. Center a circle on each 4-patch unit and machine-applique in place. Carefully trim excess fabric from behind circle. Half-square Triangle Blocks: 1. Sew a Fabric B triangle to a Fabric E triangle. Make 4. 2. Repeat with the remaining triangles, making 8 A/E blocks, 8 C/E blocks and 16 E/F blocks. 3. Sew the E/F blocks together as shown, making 4 large blocks. 4. Using the photo as a guide, sew the top row of blocks together, inserting a 6 ” x 12 ” Fabric A piece in center of row. Make 2. 5. Use the remaining pieces/blocks to make the 2 side columns, using photo as a guide. Assembly: 1. Lay out the 9 large center blocks in 3 rows of 3; sew into rows, then sew the rows together. 2. Add the side columns to each side. 3. Add the top and bottom rows of blocks. 4. Sew the 48 ” Fabric B strips to each side, and the 50 ” Fabric B strips to top and bottom edges, press seams toward B. 5. Sew the 50 ” Fabric G pieces to each side, and the 60” Fabric G pieces to top and bottom edges, press seams toward B. Finishing: Layer the prepared backing, batting and quilt top. Baste and quilt as desired. Trim edges even with quilt top. Sew the prepared binding to the edges, turn and stitch in place.
