Kwantlen Public Interest Research Group (KPIRG) Director Policies and Procedures Job Description – Director of Community Relations General Summary The role of the Director of Community Relations is to provide overall leadership, engagement and resourcing in promoting or creating the KPIRG’s public image for individuals, groups, or organizations in consultation with the KPIRG Board. Reporting Relationships The Director of Community Relations reports to the KPIRG Board and the society’s membership. Specific Responsibilities 1. The Director of Community Relations shall be responsible to the KPIRG membership for providing up-to-date information and to develop resource materials on KPIRG activities. 2. The Director of Community Relations shall be responsible for writing and/or selecting material for release to various communications media. 3. The Director of Community Relations shall be responsible for designing, coordinating and conducting a diverse range of workshops, trainings, and speaking engagements related to the KPIRG mandate. 4. The Director of Community Relations shall be responsible for the development, monitoring, and updating of program plans throughout the year in consultation with the KPIRG Board. 5. The Director of Community Relations shall be the direct supervisor to the CARP Program Coordinator. 6. The Director of Community Relations shall be responsible for representing the KPIRG at all official functions of the Kwantlen Students Association (KSA) and Kwantlen Polytechnic University. 7. The Director of Community Relations shall act as a liaison between the Kwantlen Student Association Constituency Representatives and any faculty, administration, and staff of Kwantlen Polytechnic University advocating in like initiatives as the KPIRG. 8. The Director of Community Relations shall act as a liaison between groups and/or organizations advocating in the inclusionary process that may include but are not limited to: people of colour, body diversity, women, mental health, poverty, indigenous sovereignty/decolonization, disabilities, refugees/immigrants, LGBTQ, media analysis, housing/homeless, low-income, environmental, anti-racism, worker’s rights/migrant workers/labour, community development, child/youth, progressive arts, human right/social justice etc.

9. The Director of Community Relations shall, when available, be the overall external spokesperson for the KPIRG’s policies and mandate.

10. The Director of Community Relations shall perform other such duties as directed the KPIRG Board.

11. The Director of Community Relations shall make available to the KPIRG membership, the criteria for Grant Applications, Conference Funding Applications, Action Group Applications, CARP Program Applications.

12. The Director of Community Relations shall submit a year-end report to the KPIRG Board at the final meeting of the electoral year. This report will contain pertinent information to the incoming Board Members and encompass recommendations for the next year.
