한국의제2의도시인부산은긴역사를거치며많은변화를

겪어왔다.부산에는온천이많아서,목욕도하고쉬기좋은

온천장으로7세기쯤부터유명해졌다.10세기쯤부터는일본과

가까운항구도시로서많은상인들이물건을사고파는국제

상업도시로성장하게되었다.15세기쯤부터부산은바다를

통해들어오는침입으로부터그지역을보호하기위해서중요한

군사적중심지로발전했다.

이러한부산의과거의모습은아직도도시의곳곳에서발견할

수있다.박물관에는왕들이온천을방문하는모습을담은많은

그림들이전시되어있다.또한항구근처에는외국상인들의

거리가아직남아있을뿐아니라,여기저기에오래된옛

성벽들이자랑스럽게우뚝서있기도하다.그러한장소들은

도시의과거의찬란함을잘보여주고있다.

부산시에서는부산을국제적문화도시로발전시킬것을목표로

삼고있다.그래서해마다국제영화제를열뿐아니라국제패션

디자이너대회도계획하고있는것이다.

호주의북쪽도시다윈에와서그동안알지못했던몇가지

흥미로운사실을알게됐어요.선생님께서도들으시면놀라실

거예요.도시의원래이름은팔머스톤이었고,그도시안에

있는항구의이름이다윈이었다고해요.이항구를발견한배의

선장은진화론자인찰스다윈과함께항해를했었는데,선장이

그의이름을따서항구이름으로불렀다고해요.나중에그

이름이도시전체의이름으로바뀌었다네요.

또다윈은원래아주작고떨어져있는항구마을이었어요.어느

날전봇대를세우기위해땅을파다가금을발견했고그때부터

인구가급속히늘어났다고해요.

그런특별한과거를가진다윈이호주의인기관광지중의

하나가되었다니참놀라워요.아름다운바닷가와가깝다는점과

열대적기후때문이었다고들었어요.또한다양한색의꽃들뿐

아니라독특한들짐승들도볼만하구요.이렇게역사적으로의미

있고아름다운곳을여행하게된것이참행운이라는생각이

들어요.

그리고제영어공부를위해서선생님이해주셨던말씀이

옳았어요.현지인들과기회있을때마다대화하고또매일

새로운표현들을배우려고노력하다보니제영어실력이부쩍

늘고있어요.
