Well this New year is quickly well upon us. I always delight in sharing a word of encouragement with you.

This past weekend after our service and during our fellowship time, I had the opportunity to sit and share with many of you about the joys of my trip and just share together all that we can be thankful for. As I sat there a gentleman asked if I could take a moment and talk with him. I did to which he shared that he was uncertain if he really knew Jesus. I was happy to share with him in hopes that he would respond to the Gospel Message of Jesus. To my delight he did. It is always a great blessing to lead someone to the Cross of Christ and to share the truth that Jesus will receive us right where we are. He mentioned to me that he had always felt like a failure and felt he would not amount to much, that he would do all that he could just to make people proud of him. I mentioned to him there is nothing you can do to make Jesus love you anymore than he already does. He wept. After praying that prayer with him he said I really want to make a difference in this world. I was reminded of this story;

William Kelly was an outstanding student of the Bible whose scholarship and spirituality made him a real power for God in Great Britain at the close of the century. Kelly had once helped a young relative prepare for Trinity College in Dublin and in this way came to the attention of the professors there. They urged him to take up work at the college and thus distinguish himself. When Kelly showed a complete lack of enthusiasm for the suggestion, they were completely perplexed. One of them asked in exasperation, "But Mr. Kelly, aren't you interested in making a name for yourself in the world?" To which Kelly replied, "Which world, gentlemen?"

Kelly went on to become the "father of Modern Missions.”

I told him serve the Lord the best you can, grow in His goodness, study His word, follow His ways, and serve Him with all your Heart. Don't worry about making a name for yourself here. Make one in heaven.

How about you? Which world do you really want to make name of yourself?

Stay Strong and Serve Well,

Ephesians 6:10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might.

A Note From Pastor Dean….

WORSHIP TEAM For the Worship Team: The Worship Team is looking for people willing to learn a new skill! What's that, you ask? We're so glad you asked! We're looking for people to run the sound board during the Worship service!! Unfortunately for us, Dmitriy is moving to the Mainland earlier than anticipated so he can be with his family. We need people to learn the ropes from him before he moves. We would like to train 2-4 people so one person is not expected to run the media every week. If you are interested in helping in this important ministry, please talk to Lynn, Dmitriy or Pastor Dean. Thank you!!

Aloha!Another awesome month for the Youth of Kona Baptist Church.

We are close to completing our study on The Five Love Languages: Singles Edition By Gary Chapman.  The youth are now aware of their own personal love language and they have been challenged to speak all five love languages with their family & friends.

Our Wednesday night bible study, we are still reviewing DOCTRINE a study by Francis Chan.  We have gone over The Bible, Trinity, Creation, Sin, Salvation, and Worship.

We had our first annual Camp Out during spring break.  We had an opportunity to talk to the youth about Salvation and the Easter Story. Our night was filled with prayers around the bonfire, smores, games and lots of "talking stories" due to all the smores they ate.  During the day we broke out into teams and played lots of replay games.  Our last game was Capture The Flag with water balloons, and I am delighted to announce our MVP: Marcia Dreager.  Our annual camp out would not have been possible without the help of everyone that was there.  Looking forward to many more camp outs.

The youth will be having another fundraiser this month. We will have our annual Soup & Sandwich Sunday on April 24th after the church service. One behalf of my wife and myself, it's an awesome blessing to serve our fellow

brothers and sisters in Christ.  Thank you for all your love and support for the Youth Ministry here at Kona Baptist Church.

Lots of Love & Aloha,Kai & Abbey Carvalho

First Annual Spring Break

Camp Out 2016

We had another great month in March. Maybe we should call it March Madness since we decided to do a camp out! Nah, it was great. We had 11 CIA at the spring break camp out, along with 15 youth (i think?). Kai and Abbey did a great job planning the camp out and included our younger campers so they felt like big kids. We played games, ate s'mores, and had some wonderful devotions. RIc had the boys in his tent and I had the girls in mine. Yes, 9 girls and me in one tent. Stories were flying all over the place! And then they started singing.....if only it could have been lullaby music. Something about hearing 9 young voices singing "Bless the Lord O My Soul...." at the top of their lungs makes you not feel as tired as you really are. It was great timing that Easter was the following Sunday, we were able to make Resurrection Cookies with them that evening, and then put them in the oven over night. We woke up, went to the ovens, and there they were! each cookie had a hollow space inside. (some more than others) I really think reading the bible with them through the process of making these cookies helped them understand the events of Jesus' Ressurection. BIG mahalos out to Teri, Marcia, and Christine. You moms are awesome and we were blessed by all the hard work you did to make this camp out a success. Next month we are going to be talking about Missionaries who are serving in Argentina, so if anyone has a connection to Argentina, let us know!!Blessings, Sheila
