Newsletter 1 KOMFORT KRUISERS May 2017 Valencia Travel Village WAGONMASTERS: Jack & Linda C. Roger & Maryn L. Penny W. The following article was graciously provided by Maryn L. We (Tery & Ruth) really appreciate her assistance and also the great photos provided by Jeff N., Maryn L., and Gary H. Hi All...below is my monologue of the weekends events for the newsletter. We missed Ruth & Terry W at this rally and a number of people contributed to creating the newsletter. The weekend began with a tasty dinner at the Olive Garden. The service was also spectacular! Twenty-six people attended and we were all very happy to see Cynthia. Her son David came with her. She looked really good and was happy to see everyone. Friday's breakfast included lox and bagels, fresh berries and other goodies. People trickled in slowly and some folks opted to sleep in so attendance was light. Golfers ate and dashed off to lose golf balls. The afternoon brought out the adventurers to pursue the items in the Mystery Scavenger hunt. Each participant was given 16 pictures of an object in the park to find. The challenge was that the picture was zoomed in and you only saw a small piece of the item. Once the item was found, a photo was taken of one or more members of the group with the item. After about an hour several participants wandered into the clubhouse to tell Maryn they did not like her anymore! The winners were: Adrian A, Linda C, Kathy H and Jean J. Their prize was a burrito kit with tortillas, beans, cheese, red & green sauce, Chips with Peach & Mango salsa. Friday evening was our Cinco de Mayo Fiesta night. A gourmet taco truck provided excellent shrimp, chicken, el pastor, and veggie tacos with all the toppings, rice & beans and chips & salsa. Many comments were made about how good the food was and we took all the business cards they had out, The Mariachi Band was outstanding. All the singer sounded very good and everyone played and instrument. They were very nice and played all of the requests. Many people danced and all seemed to really enjoy the music. couple of stand outs for the evening were Jimmy V's costume and posing for photos and Ray S wildly dancing with his granddaughters. The weather was perfect and many people said it was the best Cinco de Mayo party they'd attended. Saturday breakfast fare was omelets, pancakes, french toast, sausage & bacon, The meeting followed breakfast. A couple important points follow. Maryn reported the results of the potluck survey: 5 votes were for no potlucks, 19 votes were for 1 potluck, and 13 votes for 2 potlucks. Please keep this in mind when it is your turn to be a Wagonmaster. The majority preference is 1 potluck. Kaye R is modifying the website and hopes to have the new registration process ready for our August rally in Oceano. Everyone will register online. For those paying by check, you will check the "Pay by check" box, then fill out the registration fields online and bring your check to the rally. If you have to cancel at the last minute, you will have to pay whatever the park charges us for the cancellation. Roger will let you know the amount. For those who use PayPal the process will be the same. There will be a new box for everyone to identify their potluck item...salad, side, main dish or dessert. Kathe R brought the trophy we received for the horse race at the FMCA rally in Chandler and placed it next to the golf trophies. It is a large gold horse. When Jeff asked what it was, Kathe replied, "it's the Horse's Ass Award. Now you have something to give the golf losers." Everyone got quite a chuckle out of that...especially when they found out the losers were Jeff & Trish. Vince & Paul came in first, Bill A & Gary H came in second and Jimmy V & Bill Z came in 3rd. In the afternoon, a number of ladies gathered for the Beaded Iris class. Jane S brought her 2 granddaughters who also participated. It was a popular activity and many participants bought extra kits to make more at home. We had a very successful potluck with lots of delicious contributions. Nobody left hungry. This rally Maryn & Roger were wagonmasters but unfortunately Maryn had fallen and injured her knee. She was not able to get around very well but some real "Angels" in the club were there to assist with decorations and preparation. Many pitched in to help but special thanks goes out to Kathy & Gary H, Kathe & Jim R, Penny W, & Sue O. Sunday morning we had breakfast leftover goodies and said our goodbyes.

Submitted by Michael Cress 5/17/17 Charley, a new retiree-greeter at Wal-Mart, just couldn't seem to get to work on time, every day he was 5, 10, 15 minutes late. But he was a good worker, really tidy, clean-shaven, sharp-minded and a real credit to the company and obviously demonstrating their "Older Person Friendly" policies. One day the boss called him into the office for a talk. "Charley, I have to tell you, I like your work ethic, you do a bang-up job when you finally get here; but your being late so often is quite bothersome. "Yes, I know boss and I am sorry and am working on it." "Well good, you are a team player. That's what I like to hear. ” “Yes sir, I understand your concern and I will try harder. “ Seeming puzzled, the manager went on to comment, “I know you're retired from the Armed Forces. What did they say to you there if you showed up in the morning late so often?" The old man looked down at the floor, then smiled. He chuckled quietly, then said with a grin, "They usually saluted and said, Good morning, Admiral, can I get your coffee, sir?" Submitted by Michael Cress 5/12/17

Sitting on the side of the highway waiting to catch speeding drivers, a State Police Officer sees a car puttering along at 22 MPH. He thinks to himself,

“This driver is just as dangerous as a speeder!” So he turns on his lights and pulls the driver over. Approaching the car, he notices that there are five old ladies — two in the front seat and three in the back – eyes wide and white as ghosts. The driver, obviously confused, says to him, “Officer, I don’t understand, I was doing exactly the speed limit! What seems to be the problem?”

“Ma’am,” the officer replies, “You weren’t speeding, but you should know that driving slower than the speed limit can also be a danger to other drivers.”

“Slower than the speed limit?” she asked. No sir, I was doing the speed limit exactly… Twenty-Two miles an hour!” the old woman says a bit proudly. The State Police officer, trying to contain a chuckle explains to her that “22” was the route number, not the speed limit. A bit embarrassed, the woman grinned and thanked the officer for pointing out her error.

“But before I let you go, Ma’am, I have to ask… Is everyone in this car ok?These women seem awfully shaken and they haven’t muttered a single peep this whole time.” the officer asks.

“Oh, they’ll be alright in a minute officer. We just got off Route 119.”

Submitted by Michael Cress 4/22/17 One Sunday morning, a mother went in to wake her son and tell him it was time to get ready for church, to which he replied, "I'm not going." "Why not?" she asked. I'll give you two good reasons,"he said.. "(1), they don't like me, and (2), I don't like them." His mother replied, "I'll give you two good reasons why you SHOULD go to church: (1) You're 59 years old, and (2) you're the pastor!"
