A Story Teller’s Story: Kindy Sproat of North Kohala—a vivid description of Kindy’s life as only he could tell it—will go on sale for the first time at the Kohala 2010 Reunion beginning Friday, July 2. Available for the first time in book form, Kindy’s story emerged over a period of years as Faye Mitch- ell of Living Journals recorded Kindy talk- ing about his life and experiences: growing up in the valleys be- yond Pololu, his years in the military, grow- ing into a nationally recognized musical artist, and receiving the National Heritage Fellowship, all told in his unique voice and style. It’s an adventure that offers a tapestry of details about North Kohala in the 1930s, 40s and early 1950s; then O`ahu, Okinawa, Japan, and Viet- nam during Kindy’s military service; to his life back in Hawaii on Moloka`i; and finally home to North Kohala in the 1970s.
