Students are introduced to field survey by searching for artifacts, recording them and using special tools. This exercise aims at spreading the spirit of coopera-tion, teaching students the importance of reporting any found pieces to the appropriate authority.

The aim is to revive archaeological sites and let future generations learn more about the monuments of our ancestors.

The goal of these lectures is to teach students the meaning of the monuments, their importance and the way to preserve them.

Then students will have the opportunity to make flint arrowheads by themselves.

An experimental archaeological site has been set-up and embedded with pieces of pottery to provide students with a project-based learning experience in how to professionally dig up objects during an exca¬vation. This exercise teaches students how, why and when an excavation should take place, as well as the process and tools used in excavations.

Al ZuBArAH ArcHAeologicAl teAM (uniVersity oF copenHAgen)

Al Zubarah, Qatar’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site welcomes pre-booked school tours. Due to the outdoor nature of these tours they run only in the winter months from October to April. Typically a day trip to us for one or two classes (around 35 people maximum), would last from 9:00 am till 12:00 pm, or from 10:00 am till 2:00 pm,including: a tour of Al Zubarah Fort, a short lecture, a chance to see and handle some of the artifacts and then a visit to the excavation area in the town itself. We tailor our tours to the age of your pupils, and we have received positive feedback from primary level through to university students. Currently guided tours are only offered in English. Al ZuBArAH ArcHAeologicAl site Visit: eXHiBit, site Visit, lecture, worKsHopAges: 6–18 years oldLocation: Al Zubarah

The Al Zubarah Archaeological Site Visit is the chance to go on a tour of Al Zubarah Fort with an archaeologist. Students will receive a lecture in our schools tent about Al Zubarah Old Town and the work of the archaeologists. They will also get a chance to interact with archaeological artifacts, visit the park and archaeological site where the “Palace” excava-tions occurred, and walk through the old town. By bringing your students and children to the Al Zubarah Archaeological site, we hope to help build awareness about Qatar’s past, while also expanding knowledge and interest in the role of archaeology among local communities. Collectively we hope to facilitate a better knowledge & interest in Al Zubarah, Qatari history, life in the past, daily life, and the economy.

Alhalaka is a program designed to take creativity to a new level in your institution. Bringing museum professionals, artists, scientists or other creative professionals to engage with children in a unique program specially designed for your institution needs. Programs will inspire new perspectives and can last from 1 month to the whole school year depending on the project. Contact us for more information about bringing Alhalaka to your school.

Nuwaah supports children to confidently and positively participate in their world, learning and playing with their families. The first project for Nuwaah is the Storyboard Studio, a two-part project where children, families and amateur artists are invited to work side by side to create original storyboards, sharing ideas and dialogue.

Children discover the conductive properties of play dough as they build their own circuits with this surprising material. Their own imaginations are the only limit as they light up their creations!

Mathaf’s Education Programs offer ongoing learning opportunities for children, students, families and adults. Welcoming the unique experience of each individual, we facilitate dialogues that illuminate connections across perspectives, disciplines, and histories of art. Drawing inspiration from modern and contemporary art and artists, our museum setting serves as a unique forum in which to have meaningful discussions.

An emphasis on creating a safe environment, in which learning takes place, enables visitors to confidently take risks, ask questions, and gain a sense of belonging to a creative commu-nity. We invite visitors to meet artists face to face, explore interdisciplinary connections, and join the conversation about modern and contemporary art by making the museum their own creative space.

The Mathaf Student Art Competition and Exhibition is an annual event that celebrates the creativity of K-12 students in Qatar, and encourages students, teachers and parents to explore modern and contemporary art together. This competition follows the great success of the second annual “Mathaf Student Art Exhibition: Black and White.” This annual competition is a result of a student art competition that was launched by the Education Department at Mathaf in the fall of 2013. All schools in Qatar were invited to participate, and the museum received over 300 submissions from schools both within and outside of Doha. Students created work inspired by the theme, black and white. The selected winning works were presented during a public opening on May 24, 2014 to celebrate the artistic expressions of Qatar’s students. A catalogue of the exhibition is due for release in the fall. The Mathaf Education Department is now preparing for the 3rd installment of the competition for the new academic year, which will focus on Modern Arab Art from Mathaf’s permanent collection.

Under the patronage of Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassah Bint Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani,QM will host the second Mal Lawal exhibition, taking place from November 2014 to January 2015 in the Qatar International Exhibition Center. The theme of the exhibition is “Collections,” reflecting the personal collections of collectors across Qatar and the GCC.

Students will discover that an object can deliver a message. They will recognize that a single object can be a part of a collection of objects. How can an object from a collection be described? Students will describe the objects from the collection using their senses; what does the object feel like? Does it make a sound? What can I see? Students will identify what a collection is and how a single object can be returned to a collection. They will discover how a treasure chest has a purpose of storing a collection of special objects. They will be shown images of examples of collections and be encouraged to start their own, or a class collection. Finally, they will create their own “picture message’’ of which object they will choose to start their own collection, decorate a bottle and place their message in the bottle.

The National Museum will be supporting this prestigious event through the delivery of the following three educational workshops to schools:

By the end of the workshop students will be able to recognize the local names of crew divers and the role of each crewmember. Students learn how objects in museums can tell dif-ferent stories, including the story of a nation, or the story of important historical figures. They will study the qualities of leadership by “curating” an exhibition for the group, while also gaining an understanding of how collecting, selecting, displaying and caring for objects, contribute to the stories told. Students will be introduced to some of the content that will be found in the new museum, and be inspired to visit a museum.

This event takes place over two days. Students will be able to tour five different stations. At each station, staff will demonstrate an aspect of the science of Dhows and how they are sailed. They will learn about buoyancy, sail shapes, navigation, and the effects of diving on the crew. The demonstrations will be adapted for different age ranges and will link with classroom learning.

This educational workshop will be launched in August and be an ongoing program for children from 18 months to 3 years to support brain development. Chil-dren will develop language and communication skills and learn about objects using their senses. Young learners will explore “Discovery Baskets’’ containing a range of collections to touch and interact with. The 30-minute workshops will be held at local nursery and preschools. The nursery schools will be encour-aged to invite the children’s parents to the workshops to support their young child’s learning and develop-ment.
