Take a step back in me...
What is the first lock that you ever used or remember using? When many
of us got into Jr. High School, we had our first locker. Yep, it was a master
combo lock. Right, le", right and pull to open. Did you get it on your first
try? Lucky you! The house lock could also have been your first lock, or
maybe your bike lock. Remember how proud you were to have something
that you could lock up? Next came your car keys. Not much to that unless
you had the experience of losing your car keys. Now what? Perhaps that is
the first *me you thought about how to make keys for locks. What
inspired you to become a locksmith? No ma+er when you became one,
can you seen how things have changed in the field of locks and security? To keep up with the
changing field, you need to learn all that you can. Don't wait un*l the job comes along. It may be too
late to secure that job or, who knows, they might want it in a bad hurry. Oh well, we can't wait, call
someone else. Prepare for the future and secure your income now. Take as many classes as you can.
This will help you for the jobs ahead.

Sliding
Door Locks
The Safety 1st
Sliding Door Child Lock
prevents curious
children from gaining
access to off-limit
areas. With the lock
engaged, the door will only open 3 inches;
enough to let in a cool breeze on a hot summer
day but too narrow for a child to get through.
The sleek design blends into the door frame,
and top-of-the door installa*on makes it
inaccessible to toddlers and young children.
The lock easily disengages for periods of non
use.
• Prevents doors from being opened more than 3".
• Can be operated from either side of the door.
• Disengages for periods of non-use.
• Minimalis*c design blends into door frame.
• SecureTech® locking indicator.
• Top-of-door placement is inaccessible to children due
to height of installa*on.

My key doesn’t start my car… Why? My key doesn’t start my car… Why? My key doesn’t start my car… Why? My key doesn’t start my car… Why? There are several *mes a month I get the call, My key
turns but the car won’t start and my mechanic said to
call a Locksmith. If I could get a dollar for every *me I
said, “If the key turns it’s not a locksmithing problem.”
then I spend another ten minutes asking more and more
ques*ons and get to the bo+om of the issue. S*ll telling
the customer the same thing, “If the key turns it’s not a
locksmithing problem.” Yet, here we are looking at a
picture of an “a"er market” alarm system and a GPS
locator with a remote turn-off switch… aka Rats Nest.
This rats nest was just one of the issues. Yet the
customer was blaming the key. How far are you willing
to go to get your customer going? Is it legal to pull all
this wiring out of the car? Why is the red light “ON”
under the dash? What's the red monetary switch for? Is
it an a"er market alarm installed by a stereo shop?
Funny thing about this car, was… It was too old for
any type of transponder equipment. Yet the previous owner who sold this beauty (2004 Nissan Fron*er) took
the *me to add a GPS locator and turn off switch. The red light that is seen in the photo means the company
that controls the GPS has locked out the star*ng of the car. The real ques*on is, should you fix the issue and
remove all this wiring? So being on the safe side, you check the ownership, (D.L. and Registra*on) and ask
them do you, (this would be the owner of the vehicle.) have the right to remove or contract the removal of this
hardware? Well… I feel the responsibility lies within the same realm as making a lost key. If you check out all
the current paperwork, and all is correct and current, plus, you have a good feeling about what your about to
do, then the job is to get your customer back on the road again. Remember to ask a lot of ques*on,
you can always walk away. But if you do choose to rewire this “Rats Nest” there is big money in doing so.
There is not a lot of guys that would even a+empt this task, this leaves you with a large slice of the pie
(bigger paycheck). If you’re a li+le shy many *mes the momentary switch “red bu+on” will start the car one
more *me. Here’s the end results of this par*cular job. In this case the people purchased the car recently from
an auc*on and they purchased it really cheap, all because of the no start situa*on. The towed the car to their
driveway (D.L. and bill of sale had the correct info)… So, I ripped it all out, solder the wiring and when finished... it fired right up. But his
is not always the case, so the agreement I had with the customer was to remove the wiring and NOT guarantee the car would start.
