Follett Shelf Login InformationWhen using Follett Shelf login with your Novell username and password when you are in Destiny or Quest. The link that is on your Edline page probably needs to be
taken off, because it opens a login box that does not except the Novell username and password.
More Follett Shelf NewsIf you students for some reason cannot check out an eBook, the settingmay need to be changed under your Admin login.

Scoop.it! Scoop.it has been around for awhile, but recently I have found that helps me to help you by curating content and providing a personal learning network to gain knowledge on the latest information on school libraries, Google, and technology integration. One of my favorite features is that as you curate information you are instantly publishing and posting to your social media sites, such as Twitter at the same time. What a great way to increase your social presence. It looks like a well manicured online magazine that is easy to use and provides relevant content based on the key word tags you have provided. To view and follow my scoop.it page go to http://www.scoop.it/t/know-go. What to learn more about scoop.it? http://www.scoop.it/t/what-is-scoop-it. Not only does it have an mobile app available but it also has a bookmarklet available (Scoop any web page by installing the bookmarklet on your toolbar and then dropping & dragging your content).
Animoto for EducationAnother site that has been around for awhile, Animoto the video creation site. All you need is a few pictures or video clips and a few minutes to create a video that you can Tweet, Pin, or email. It’s a simple and easy way to show what is happening around your building and no video editing experience required. If you decide to create an account be sure it is Animoto for Education.
If you would like to see a sample check the link to the 3rd-5th Grade project at Green Trails! All the photos were taken by the students during their specials time. Library, Art, Gym, Music and Orchestra team taught together so the kids could create this awesome video. The student were in teams of 4, given a camera, and tossed a Koosh Ball at the SmartBoard to select a scavenger hunt question. They then had to work together to answer the question and document their answer with photography. (An example question: Where would you find reference materials in the library? or Demonstrate how you would wait to sharpen your pencil in art.) This activity was designed to help build teamwork while reviewing the norms & expectation in art, gym, music, orchestra, and library. http://animoto.com/play/q39SD5RrvgxX21kH2nOSSg. Thanks for sharing Katie.
The E-mail ABC’s Thanks to Kira, this site is a wonderful tool for teaching e-mail etiquette. All 26 letters
of the alphabet are represented with tips on sending and composing e-mail. These
tips make for great discussion points especially when talking about the difference
between personal and school accounts and when to use each. http://goo.gl/Xskx

Managing Multiple Google AccountsIn a previous newsletter, a document was shared on how to login to multiple Google accounts when using Chrome. By setting this up you are able to easily switch between accounts loaded in separate browser windows. Now you can watch the video at. http://goo.gl/mlEFQJ. If you are going to watch this in the district be sure you are logged into the network.
Google Classroom Now AvailableGoogle recently released a new tool for districts using Google Apps for Education
called Google Classroom. Google Classroom is basically a document management tool
that allows you to create classes for your students to join and gives you the
opportunity to assign documents to students all at once without having to use
elaborate scripts and add-ons. A folder structure will be created in both you and your
student's Drive accounts for quick access to documents. Additionally, students will be
able to submit documents to you to be graded and returned to them all digitally and
through Drive. Finally, Google Classroom will allow you to email all of your students
with their Parkway Google accounts directly from Classroom eliminating the need to
make elaborate lists.
This tool is available to you immediately and can be accessed at http://classroom.
google.com where you will sign in with your Parkway Google account. Be sure to
signify that your role is that of a teacher to get you started in the right way. Once you
are in you will go into queue to be given the permissions of a teacher (that should
take about 24 hours). You'll be able to get in, you just won't be able to create a class
until permissions are granted. You should receive an email confirmation that you've
been added to the Classroom Teachers group.
When students go in, they will be prompted to login to their Parkway Google account
and then they will have to choose student. This is where the teacher verification
comes in and why it takes a day to verify you.
There will be more specific how-to information coming soon. Here are a few
resources that are available for you to get started.
● Intro to Google Classrom presentation - (Thanks to Kira Landolt) - http://goo.

● Google Classroom YouTube playlist - This resource is not specific to Parkway
but it will get you started. Start with the second video as the first one doesn't
pertain to us. http://goo.gl/XWFCzn
● Three Things You Can Do with Google Classroom - http://goo.gl/lBj6uD
● Getting Started with Google Classroom -http://goo.gl/meFWoa
You are free to share this information with your buildings. As this is a new product,
changes will be coming and more features will be added as time goes on.

About Books
Destiny/Quest
What does it mean to be a librarian in the digital age?
DestinyMaking Items “Mine” Many of you would like to make your award winners and hot reads “mine” so that they are not eligible for ILL. In order to do that go to:circulation tab > copy status > find the copy you want to change > click on the item > edit copy > circulation type > select “mine” > save copy.
Hide a Circulation Type Sometimes you may want to “hide” a circulation type (such as “mine”) in Destiny (not
your eBook Shelf). This means that only under the (local) Admin login can you see the
hidden circulation type. However, the items contained in that circulation type can still
be checked out to a patron if they ask the librarian for it specifically. To make the
change go to: backoffice tab > select library policies option > click on the circulation
types subtab > scroll down to the circulation type that you want to change to hide
and click on the edit button (paper pencil icon) >
> then put a checkmark in the box that says “hidden” > note: this can not be changed
during school hours > save.
Thanks Jim for making the Destiny help section of the newsletter possible.

St Louis County Library Card Campaign!
The St. Louis County Library is
currently running a library card
campaign. This year SLCL has
implemented an online
registration module to streamline
the process. They encourage
schools to direct students and
staff that do not already have a
SLC Library card to http:
//webpac.slcl.
org/screens/schoolregistration.
html to submit the online library
card application. The staff will
create library cards for those
students and staff and deliver the
library cards to your school to be
distributed.

Personalized Learning One option for earning Parkway credits is to participate in webinars. In order to earn participation credits watch the webinar and then go to http://tinyurl.com/LibWebinars to record your participation. Remember that district credit is based on the number of clock hours that you participate. Credit is issued as follows: six clock hours will get you .5 credit and 12 clock hours will get you 1 credit.
It’s Not Too Late - Google Drive Certification Last year, Bill offered librarians the opportunity to acquire Google Drive Certification
or Google Educator Certification. This opportunity is still available. Google Drive now
has level 1 and level 2 training and you'll want to complete both of them. The good
news is level 1 is really short and is more of just an overview. Level 2 is more
comprehensive and will provide most of the answers that you will need for to pass the
test. This is where you should spend most of your time. In this level, there are many
videos that help to illustrate the topics and concepts covered. In Lesson 8 you'll find a
link that will be important for the certification test as well. Here are the pertinent
links:
● Drive Level 1 (basic overview) http://www.google.
com/edu/training/tools/drive/level1.html
● Drive Level 2 - http://www.google.com/edu/training/tools/drive/level2.html
● Google Testing Center - https://google.starttest.com/
If you are interested in taking the Drive test or all of the tests they are $15 each. If you
choose to to take the test(s), you have two choices. Library Services will either pay for
all five tests once you've passed them and have turned in your certificates, or Library
Services can give you 2 district credits (if you complete all five tests). You may also get
reimbursed if you opt to take only the Google Drive test.
