Picking Up Stitches• Picking Up Along a Cast On or Cast Off Edge– RS facing you– Insert from front to back under both loops– Act as if knitting stitch

• Picking Up Stitches Along a Shaped Edge– Insert into row below edge (NOT IN BETWEEN STITCHES)– Lift up stitches to make loops on right needle

• Picking Up Along a Side Edge– RS facing you– Insert from front to back between 1st and 2nd stitch– Act as if knitting stitch

Knitting with a Circular Needle

• Why– Large number of stitches– Knitting in the round

• Knit as if you are using regular needles• Allows knitting to spread out• Can’t loose the other needle!

Page 9: Knitting unit2

Changing Yarn Balls

• Always tie knots on the side edge• Check to see if you have enough yarn– Can the yarn go across the needle four times

• Drop the old yarn (literally)• Use the new yarn to wrap around the first stitch• After a few stitches, loosely tie the ends

together

Page 10: Knitting unit2

Knitting Two Strands at Once

• Keep the balls separated so they do not tangle• Knit as if it was one large strand• Color effects– Experiment!– Unique combinations

• Remember to check your tension!

Page 11: Knitting unit2

Weaving in Ends

• NEVER JUST CUT THEM!– Risk for untangling

• Thread yarn into large- eyed needle• Loosely sew into the side of your work• After about 2 inches, turn around and come

back• Now you may cut the end safely

Page 12: Knitting unit2

Fringe

• Cut 12 inch lengths of your yarn• Group them 4 strands at a time• Using your needle, create a small hole in the 2nd

row• Fold the strands in half• Pull the loop end into the hole• Pull the loose ends through the loop and knot
