We continue to set our Membership and Officers Meetings in SMdM Church as a result of restrictions put in place by Covid-19. Of course mask and social distancing will remain in place for the foreseeable future. Please review the proposed 2020-21 council budget (see bottom, page 7). We will be voting on the budget at the August 5 th council business meeting. Our council has committed to assign members to spend each Friday from 11:00 AM – Noon in Eucharistic Adoration. Bro. Bob Conochalla will have sign-ups at our August meeting for volunteers to commit to one Friday per month or once per quarter. (see bottom, page 4 for more details). I have mentioned this in the past, but I want to emphasize the importance of our public display of appreciation for our first responders and military. We have received the authorization to proceed with the annual 9-11 Memorial Ceremony at the pier, which is always a moving and solemn event and shows the community our heartfelt gratitude for the job they perform daily. The ceremony will be followed by a Blue Mass in our Church (see flyer, page 6). Looking ahead, Publix and Winn Dixie stores have implemented new guidelines to address the pandemic at all of their locations. This will preclude us from collecting monies as originally planned for the previously scheduled September and October Tootsie Roll Drive. We are hopeful that we can move the Tootsie Roll Drive to right after the first of the year. While we may be hampered in performing our Knightly activities in the fashion we're accustomed, we are moving forward and remaining diligent in our attention to Brothers and neighbors in need. When you become aware of a Brother that's ill, give him a call to brighten his day. When one of our Brothers passes, take the time to send condolences to those left behind. Putting a smile on someone’s face doesn't cost all that much but the satisfaction you'll get is well worth the effort. Mary, Queen of the Knights, pray for us! Vivat Jesus, Ron

August 2020

Grand Knight – Ron Wolak Worthy Brothers,

We started the new 2020-21 fraternal year with the installation of our cadre of officers for the next term of office. While we have

many socio and economic challenges facing us as a result of the pandemic and unrest in many areas of our great nation, the strength and experience of our council shines hope on a future of success.

Thanks to Fr. Manny for celebrating Mass & DD Kevin Ryan for conducting the Officer Installation Ceremony (bottom L & C photos). The ceremony was well attended by Brother Knights & wives. We followed the Installation of Officers with a tribute to Brother Frank Crisologo’s deceased wife, Bernice, with the installation of a memorial brick (bottom R Photo) in the sidewalk outside of SMdM Church.

We continue to set our Membership and Officers Meetings in SMdM Church as a result of restrictions put in place by Covid-19. Of course mask and social distancing will remain in place for the foreseeable future. Please review the proposed 2020-21 council budget (see bottom, page 7). We will be voting on the budget at the August 5th council business meeting.

Protecting Your Family… Business?

You already know that the Knight of Columbus is here for all your personal and family financial protection needs, but did you know that the Order can help secure your business too? As your Knights of Columbus field agent, I can help you protect

the continuity of your business for years to come.

Business insurance is the term used in the insurance industry to describe the use of life insurance and disability income insurance to solve certain financial needs of businesses and their owners. The products offered through the Order can cover many needs, such as:

• Economic loss to the business when a key employee dies • Disposition of a business owner’s interest upon death or other separation from the business

If you’ve worked hard to establish a business, you owe it to yourself and your family to learn about the opportunities that the Knights of Columbus can offer.

With protection for the family, the business, the farm, retirement, long term care and disability coverage, the Knight of Columbus truly is your shield for all the elements of your life.

Introducing Florida Voice for the Unborn Tallahassee-Based Pro-Life Lobbying Group

In January 2020, former Notre Dame Co. 10514 member, Brother Andrew Shirvell, founded Florida Voice for the Unborn, a new grassroots Tallahassee based lobbying group that only focuses on pro-life issues impacting the unborn. The name

“Florida Voice for the Unborn” harkens back to the origins of the pro-life movement, which initially was laser-focused on protecting unborn babies under the law.

Brother Shirvell states that the group is strictly independent, and its work is guided by faith in God’s only Son, Jesus Christ. Florida Voice for the Unborn supports all

peaceful efforts by elected officials and others to end abortion and save lives. Volunteers of the group attend ‘March for Life’ events in the state of Florida (see photo below of St. Augustine Pro-Life Event). Interested members, parishioners, and community members can follow the new group on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest @UnbornVoiceFL. More information on Florida Voice for the Unborn can be found by visiting www.FloridaVoiceForTheUnborn.com. You can sign-up for “Grassroots Action Alerts” via e-mail on the website.

We pray for the success of Brother Shirvell as he works to spotlight legislation to protect and give a ‘voice’ to the most vulnerable of society, unborn children.

A PRAYER FOR PROTECTION IN TIME OF PANDEMIC

O Mary, you always brighten our path as a sign of salvation and of hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick, who, at the Cross, took part in Jesus’ pain while remaining steadfast in faith. O loving Mother, you know what we need, and we are confident you will provide for us as at Cana in Galilee. Intercede for us with your Son Jesus, the Divine Physician, for those who have fallen ill, for those who are vulnerable, and for those who have died. Intercede also for those charged with protecting the health and safety of others and for those who are tending to the sick and seeking a cure. Help us, O Mother of Divine Love, to conform to the will of the Father and to do as we are told by Jesus, who took upon himself our sufferings and carried our sorrows, so as to lead us, through the Cross, to the glory of the Resurrection. Amen.

Under thy protection we seek refuge, O Holy Mother of God. In our needs, despise not our petitions, but deliver us always from all dangers, O glorious and blessed Virgin. Amen.

Mary, Queen of the Knights, intercede to Jesus for those in need of his healing prayers SICK (Listing is for 3 months, but can be renewed for another 3 month period by notifying newsletter editor)Brother Bob Rizzo (3) Brother Vincent Anelli (3) Brother Harald ‘Hal’ Hansen (2) Douglas Bentley III, son of Brother Doug Bentley, Jr. (2) Brother Stan Niedwiecki (2) Betsy Sileo, sister of Bro.
