Grand Knight’s Message
Thanksgiving is now behind us,Brothers. It is my sincere hope thateveryone of you was able to enjoy it to thefullest. It has always been one of myfavorite holidays. Lots of family time toreflect and enjoy one another and sharevarious stories of the things for which weshould be thankful. My list was a long one,and having Council 6065 as part of myextended family is certainly near the top.We spent the holidays with our oldest son’s family at Ft.Leavenworth, KS, while he was away for some special training.Sharing the holiday with four of God’s little children, aged 6, 41/2, 3, and 1 gives us seniors a renewed appreciation of lifeand its wonders and innocence. I tell this little personal storybecause it presented an opportunity for me to reflect on someof mankind who weren’t able to enjoy the holiday as much aswe did. Our son’s house sits high on a hill and looks out over agood portion of the Army base and has a very clear view of theFederal Penitentiary just outside the gates. On Thanksgivingmorning, I looked out on a beautiful, crisp day and there sat“the Big House” in all its splendor. Several times during the dayI thought about the large number of “lifers” who would neveragain be in a position to enjoy all that this Thursday, and all theother days, had and will have to offer us. I made a promise tomyself to remember those people in my prayers, just as I try todo with my family and friends who may be troubled or are inneed. Probably few people are more in need of those prayersthan the prisoners there, and elsewhere around the world. Iwant our Council to find a Knight to handle the Prison Ministrynow that Tom Voz is no longer able because of his health. I willaddress that in our Business Meeting.
What a joy to read the report of our large turnout at theFirst Degree Ceremony at St. Elizabeth Ann Seaton on Nov. 21.Welcome, all six new Knights, and I look forward to seeing youat our December meeting. There is a separate segment in thisissue covering all the new members. I want to extend a

huge thank you to the newly expanded Membership committee for a job well done. And Ihear next month could be a repeat! Can Star Council be far behind?
December is shaping up to be another busy one for our Council. The last session forselling Passbooks this year is upon us and we all share in Rudy Profaizer’s concern aboutlower sales compared to last year and even worse, compared to 2009. There is a lot ofcompetition for the discretionary dollar and that won’t change anytime soon. We need togive this last selling weekend all the effort we can to maximize the return from our biggestfundraiser. We will continue with Passbooks as long as they bring us the level of revenuethey do, even though less than we are used to. Meanwhile a committee has been formed tostudy new fundraising opportunities and a couple with some solid potential are alreadyunder review. Stay tuned!
We are really looking forward to participating with the Hispanic community of St.Mark’s in celebrating the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe during the Novena the first week inDecember. It is the perfect time to mingle with our fellow parishioners who may not fullyappreciate what the Knights of Columbus are all about. The Mass, Rosary, and Receptionon Dec. 6 will be very rewarding.
As a reminder, please make it a point to read all the Knight’s publications that cometo you. Don’t let them get mingled with the Christmas catalogs that end up in the recyclebin.
Thank you, all, for the support and respect you showed my Deputy Grand Knight, BillButcher, these last two months. He, along with the rest of the officers, kept the wheelsturning smoothly. (But he said he was glad I was back)!
Let’s all prepare for the Coming of Our Lord in the best ways we know how.

Council to Host Rosary and Mass to Honor Our Lady ofGuadalupe
On Tuesday, Dec. 6th, at 7 p.m., the Knights of Columbus will be hosting an eveningRosary, Mass, and reception for Our Lady of Guadalupe Novena in Spanish.
In 1531 a "Lady from Heaven" appeared to a humble Native American at Tepeyac, ahill northwest of what is now Mexico City, to Blessed Juan Diego. She identified herself asthe ever-virgin Holy Mary, Mother of the True God for whom we live, of the Creator of allthings, Lord of heaven and the earth. An incredible list of miracles, cures and interventionsare attributed to Her intercession.
Pope John Paul II entrusted the cause of life to her loving protection, and placedunder her motherly care the innocent lives of children, especially those who are in danger ofnot being born.
All are invited to the parish for the Rosary and Mass. The reception will follow in thecafetorium.
There will also be a performance of the Azteca Dance Group during the reception. The Ladies Auxiliary, along with the wives of the Knights, will be providing a wonderfulassortment of cookies. The Rosary Makers of St. Mark have 500 hand-made rosaries forthis special event, which will be available to those attending. Rosary Prayer cards in Spanishwill be provided as well.
Please join us as we host Tuesday December 6th of Our Lady of Guadalupe Novena.

Council 6065 Serves Dinner at Ronald McDonald House
For 19 consecutive years, Council 6065 has prepared and served a meal at theRonald McDonald House in Dallas, and this year was no exception as more than two dozenBrother Knights and their family members gathered on Nov. 12th to fix dinner for theresidents. And for all those years... and most of those times, twice a year... the project hasbeen under the direction of PGK Mike Doherty.
Chicken, vegetables, salads, rolls, and desserts made up the menu and for thosewho stopped in for dinner, it was a welcome relief and treat for what is otherwise a verytrying day for most of them. Our Council is honored and blessed to be able to provide thisservice for families at the Ronald McDonald House, who are there while their childrenundergo serious medical treatment. For those in our Council who have not had thesatisfaction of knowing that you are truly helping those in need, you should make it a pointto participate in the first one in the Spring of 2012... and be sure to bring your kids. Theireyes will be opened to how fortunate they are to be in good health.
Again this year, the turn-out of residents was good and all the food that was "leftover" became "snacks" for later on in the day or night. Project chairman Doherty wants tothank all of those who participated:
Rudy Profaizer, Steve and Cindy Cosgrove, John Vasquez, John Wheeler, Ron andGail Fee and their daughter, Hannah, Juan Carlos Martinez, Pete Maurer, David Wolf and hisson, Jason, Evan Loriot, and, of course, Maria Doherty and grand daughters, Angelica andJamieson. (For those of you who have attended at least six years of these events, you willremember when the Doherty grand daughters were known as "Jelly" and "Jammy"... but at14 and 8 years of age now, they are young ladies and we are happy to have watched themgrow!)
Brother Knights and family members gathered for the Council's 19th annual RonaldMcDonald House dinner. The event has been chaired by PGK Mike Doherty (center in blueshirt... not the younger kid, but the mature guy to his right) since its inception.

Residents of the Ronald McDonald Houseenjoy a dinner of chicken, green beans, corn, BBQ beans, salad, and desserts.Nearly 20 Brother Knights and familymembers assisted in the preparation, serving, and clean-up.
The Menu Board was prepared byHannah Fee, daughter of BrotherKnight Ron and Gail Fee. She hitthe nail right on the head with herfinal comment on the board...."Yummy enjoy the food!" And foryou who notice the "slant" of thewriting, remember, the board istaller than Hannah and she was"stretching" to get all the words inplace.
David Wolf (right) also gets into the"supervising" act as his son, Jason, stirsup a pot of beans at the Council'sannual Ronald McDonald House dinner.

Getting the serving line ready are (l-r) Juan Carlos Martinez, MariaDoherty, Gail Fee, John Vasquez, and Cindy Cosgrove. The pans areempty now... but within the hour, they were filled with chicken andother delicious food for the residentsof the Ronald McDonald House, where the Council served dinner onNov. 12th.

Fall Ball
The Kings of Swing provided wonderful"nostalgic" music at the Fall Ball, whichwas held Saturday night (11-12) at thenew St. Mark's Parish Center. Theannual event is sponsored by Assembly2266 and is opened to everyone. It isalways a "grand evening of dancing andconversation", with some finger foodand drinks included to add to the festiveoccasion.
The "food court" was filled withappetizers, finger-sandwiches,cheeses, and assorted desserts, enough to please everyone.
Bringing in a "dance floor" for the eventwas no problem for the men ofAssembly 2266 and it made for a perfectsetting at the annual Fall Ball.

Council Golf Tournament Raises $5K for CrisisPregnancy Centers
The Knights of Columbus Council 6065 held its 10th annual White Rose GolfTournament on Saturday, Nov. 5, at Woodbridge Golf Club in Wylie to benefit the CrisisPregnancy Centers in the Dallas area. This year the tournament raised close to $5,000. Todate, this event has raised more than $60,000 for the White Rose.
Project chairman Steve Cosgrove, who has headed this event since its inception, hadthese remarks at the end of the tournament: "I kind of get a little nostalgic to havereached a milestone of 10 years, and I have many Knights to thank... starting with MarkHromalik who spent a grueling week back 10 years ago attracting the hole sponsors that westill have today. Then Frank McElligott, who has been there to send out the sponsor letterevery year to kick off our first communication. John Herndon was the tournament sponsorand major contributor during our first eight years. My team of Mike Murray, John Wheeler, and Pete Maurer have helped me out in every way possible, from hole sponsors, bringing inprizes, attracting sponsors, and participating as players every year."
Steve continued, "Guys who don’t play golf like Will Alt, Bill Ptacek, Jack Hagan, JimRizzo, Paul Sammataro, and Randy Le Grand always found ways to help our tournament. Finally, the golfers who made it happen by always coming out and participating andbringing in other players: Brother Knights such as Tom Heicken, Doug Heckmann, RonAckerman, Greg Fisher, Dale Hearst, Phil Reinkemeyer, Todd Bartz, Roger Knott, GaryNedzinski, Steve Schmitt, Richard Chambers and one of our fallen Knights, Ron Fossier. Ialso must mention three trusted Knights who, until just recently due to health issues, werealways there every year to support our volunteer effort: Don Balvin, Clinton Gantt, andJerry Bonniol along with his wife, Betty. Finally, behind me at the computer, building theteam sheets, sponsor mailing lists, tournament programs, goodie bags and prizes, sign-intable and final accounting, my wife, Cindy." A "special thanks" also goes out to our PGAfriends, Arnold Palmer and D.A. Webring, who again donated items for our auction. Againthis year, Brother Knight Don Lauterbach exercised his "considerable and persuasive charm"to get several golf courses to donate rounds of golf for the auction, so we want to thank andrecognize him.
The Council would also like to express its sincere thanks to the staff at WoodbridgeGolf Club, headed by General Manager Paul Kenney and Head PGA Pro Eric Askier. Theircooperation and courtesy insured that our tournament would be a success. The facilitiesand the course were in great shape. All the participants also received a free "replay card"from the course and we certainly appreciated that gesture.
Cosgrove concluded by saying "Way to go Brothers, as you can see, the Council-wideparticipation in this event is absolutely amazing, and most importantly, we have saved somany babies we could open our own school." He also reminded us "to keep the sponsor listthroughout the year, and trade with these vendors whenever possible." The complete list isnoted below:
