Brother John GroneckJohn Groneck is one our very active Knights. John currently serves as our Recorder for the Council and is also the President of the JFM Home Association. John has spearheaded several projects to enhance the look of the Hall. Under his directions he’s redone the Bride’s /Conference room, the Grand Knight’s /Property Manager’s Office , landscaping out front and side of the building, with Catherine’s help and more recently the Bar Area is being redone. This is a Knight involved in his Council. Keep up the good work and thank you John for all your efforts and for what you do for the Council.

John and Tina Robles John and Tina Robles are members of St James the Apostle Parish and a long time Knight. John and Tina are having a very Special event occur in their lives and I thought it deserved recognition. They are going to Italy on a trip planned by St. James Parish and Father Charlie Samperie. They will be visiting several sites, but none as famous as St. Peter’s where John and Tina will renew their wedding vows with Father Samperi performing the ceremony in St Peter’s for their 50th Wedding Anniversary. What an awesome event for John and Tina. What an accomplishment.

It seems that October has proven to be a busy month as well and right around the corner is Home for the Holidays and Thanksgiving. October started out with Seth’s Wine Fest on October 3 & 4, 2015. OTS Pet Fest was held on October 17 & 18, 2015. Thanks to Ken Scales and his coordination and “YOU” those valuable volunteers things went off without a hitch. Without “your” commitment to this Council we would not be able to meet our Charity requirements. We are also in the process of reactivating our Squires Circle. Please contact Jose Ruvalcaba if you are able to help to give him assistance and support. Peter Palen’s Veteran’s Assistance committee will be going to the VA Hospital on November 15, 2015. Contact Peter Palen if you are able to go along to help Peter get the veterans to Mass.Note that the Silver Rose will be passing through our Dioceses between November 23, 2015 to December 3, 2015. More details to follow.Be sure and spread the word that our Council will be hosting a major Degree on January 23, 2016. So if you are a 1st Degree Knight contact Bill Moeller, Rich Eimer or myself to get information for your 2nd and 3rd Degree. There will be “NO” Family nights until January and that will be our White Elephant Night, but don’t forget to save the date for our Christmas Party scheduled for December 13, 2015.Keep in mind as Knights we are joined together to work together for the common good to help our neighbors in need in our community. Recruit and be active, volunteer for one more of our events. Just a few hours can make lighter work for your brother Knights.

Brother Knights:November is the time of year, when we as Americans and as Knights remember those men and women that served our country in the Armed Forces of America. This is a time of pride, a time of sadness and a time of reflection on the honored service of these men and women. We love our country and salute the service of those who helped shape her into the greatest country in the world. One of the most beautiful expressions we can offer is gathering together as Brother Knights with our families and saying a Patriotic Rosary. We can ask our pastors to allow us to recognize these men and women at mass. Veterans Day is not just recognizing those deceased veterans but the remembrance of all veterans. Another great way to say thank you and we appreciate your service is by making a visit to the Veterans Hospital. Whatever way you choose to recognize our veterans, please make this a point of pride for your council, that the service of these men and women will never be forgotten. Vivat Jeuss!

VA AssistanceThe goal of the VA Assistance Committtee is to have an active corps of Knights serving as volunteers at every Veterans Administration medical facility in the nation. We meet once a quarter and venture down to the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, Houston, TX to mingle with the veterans and take them to mass if they choose to go.

Next visit is: SUN Nov 8:00am - 12:00

Milestone Highlights K of C’s Financial Protection of Catholic Families The Knights of Columbus surpassed $100 billion of life insurance in force this week, marking an important mile-stone in the Catholic fraternal benefit society’s mission to protect the future of Catholic families. This milestone was achieved despite continuing adverse conditions affecting the insurance industry. Established in 1882 by a young Catholic priest, the organization — which offers its line of top-rated products exclusively to its members and their eligible family members — manages $21 billion in assets and ranks 939 on the 2015 Fortune 1000 list, placing it among the largest life insurers in North America. “The $100 billion milestone is not simply a number,” said Supreme Knight Carl Anderson. “It highlights the fact that each year we are protecting the future of more Catholic families, continuing the mission of our founder, Ven-erable Father Michael J. McGivney.” The Knights of Columbus offers insurance to its members and their families through a network of more than 1,500 dedicated, professional agents in the United States and Canada — all of whom are members of the Knights of Columbus.

“With each dollar of top-rated insurance in force that our professional agency force adds, additional, mean-ingful security is provided to the families whose liveli-hoods we protect,” the Supreme Knight said. . The $100 billion milestone caps a year in which the Knights of Columbus set a new record for insurance sales with $8 billion sold, earned the top rating of A++ Superior from AM Best for the 40th consecutive year, and was named a “World’s Most Ethical Company” for the second consecutive year by the Ethisphere Insti-tute®. The Knights of Columbus is the world’s largest Catholic fraternal organization with nearly 1.9 million members worldwide. It is also one of the most active chari-table organizations in the United States. The Knights set a new record for charitable giving in 2014 with donations of more than $173.5 million and 71.5 million hours of service to charitable causes. We had to dodge a few thunderstorms but that what camping is all about, being prepared for the un-expected. Like most of Texas we have also had an im-pact from the rain. We had a planned camp out on June 5th thru 7th at Bastrop State Park but the dam broke and flooded the park. We are preparing for Summer Camp at the end of June. Polish Government Honors Supreme Knight Order of Merit granted by President Andrzej DudaIn recognition of his “outstanding achievements in charitable activities” and “contributions to promoting the legacy of John Paul II,” Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson was honored by the Polish government with the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Repub-lic of Poland. The award, one of the first honors authorized by the recently elected Polish President Andrzej Duda, was conferred Oct. 16 at the Polish Embassy in Washing-ton, D.C.In his acceptance remarks, Supreme Knight Anderson said that it was profoundly meaningful for him to re-ceive an award from Poland, which has produced such great writers, artists, statesmen and saints, and pre-served its national identity through much adversity.“There is no nation - other than my own - that is more meaningful to me from which to receive such an honor than Poland. It touches me deeply and I am very grate-

ful,” he said.Under Supreme Knight Anderson’s leadership, the Knights of Columbus was established in Poland in 2006 — the first international expansion of the Or-der in more than a century. The Order in Poland has grown steadily and today there are nearly 4,000 Polish Knights in 82 councils throughout the country.

November Is Long Term Care Awareness MonthFor the Unexpected - Record numbers of people are living well into their 80s, 90s... and even past the age of 100. That translates into more time to do the things you want to do, to spend time with the people you love. It also poses new challenges. In aging, you change in some familiar ways — and some ways that might be completely unexpected. In your 60s and 70s, tasks and activities that you once performed routinely or with ease might become increasingly dif-ficult. And, over time, you may need more and more assistance with such activities. You might also experience a sudden, acute need for such help after a debilitating illness — such as a stroke.Everyone is potentially at risk. Statistics from 20111 show that about 70 percent of individuals over age 65 will require at least some type of long-term care services during their lifetime. As you get older, the risk increases. Women are at a higher risk than men, typically because they tend to live longer. On average, someone age 65 today will need some long-term care services for three years.2 On average, private nursing home care can cost upwards of $79,935 per year.3 You may be able to manage with at-home nursing care, but this option can also be quite expensive: such services can cost more than $60,000 per year in the U.S. for eight hours of service, 365 days a year.By 2020, an estimated 12 million Americans will need long-term care services. Forty percent of those receiving long-term care services are adults between the ages of 18 and 64.4Since its addition to the Order’s product portfolio in 2000, long-term care (LTC) insurance has provided the Knights of Columbus with an excellent opportunity to further serve members and their families. And, for our long-term care policy holders in the United States, there’s an added bonus. It’s called “Provider Pathway,” a program offering access to a network of long-term care providers at discounted rates. The network includes discounts on products, such as hearing aids, diabetic supplies, personal emergency response systems, and durable medical equipment, as well as skilled nursing facilities, assisted living, and adult day care. Eligibility for participation in this program is open to Knights of Columbus long-term care insurance policy-holders, their spouses, dependent children, parents and parents-in-law. All providers are fully credentialed and meet state licensing requirements. If you haven’t yet spoken with me about long-term care insurance, you owe it to yourself to do so. There are a few decisions to make in choosing a “plan” — a comprehensive plan that covers care whether you’re at home or in a facility, or one that covers facility only; daily benefit amounts and benefit durations (how much and how long it will last); and the length of the elimination period (waiting period) before benefits kick-in. Having a professionally trained agent ― and a brother Knight you can trust ― to help guide you through the process is yet another valuable benefit that comes with your membership. Take advantage of it; contact me today.

InsuranceOnly Having Insurance “Through Work” Doesn’t WorkDo you know anyone whose life or career has drasti-cally changed during these years of economic down-turn? It’s very likely that someone in your immediate or extended family or group of friends is facing finan-cial uncertainty. Maybe there’s a possibility that you (or your spouse) could lose your job or change em-ployers. Too many people have often relied on group term life insurance as their only safety net. Often, this insurance is an employee benefit provided at low or no cost. The existence of this coverage might convince someone that personally-owned life insurance is not necessary. But only having “through work” insurance can leave you and your family vulnerable. Most group life insur-ance policies are limited in amount, which may be tied to salary or some other benchmark. These numbers are often capped, and this cap may be dangerously low

when compared to your family’s actual needs. In fact, a detailed needs analysis that evaluates your specific situation, will likely show that any employer-provided coverage falls short. In addition, the amount of group insurance offered is almost always reduced, sometimes dramatically, when you retire. You could one day find yourself without coverage, and if your health has changed (which it will as you age), you might also find yourself unable to secure individual protection. At the very least, it will definitely be more expensive. While group life insurance can help, it does not replace the need for individually owned life insurance. I’ll be happy to meet with you and provide a no-cost needs analysis, so you’ll know exactly where you stand.Open enrollment is coming for most of you. Allow me to conduct a full review of your coverage so we can close any gaps you might have and, at the same time, protect your insurability. Call me today!
