Spiritual Message

WHO AM I?

Expectation is a belief that something will happen or be the case in the

future. Right expectations give us desired results while wrong expectations leads

to undesired results. The foundations of our expectations will determine our

response and/or reaction after results are out.

The mystery of Resurrection has many questions and reactions: The

various reactions involve the recognition of the miracle as a sign: those who do

not question; those who question but do not believe; those who believe but do

not bear witness; and those who question, believe, and bear witness. These are

some of the expectations that Easter Season brings along after a long Lenten

season.

Looking at the disciples of Jesus, it is easy to see the strong character of

Peter and Judas Iscariot coming out to the fore, especially during/after the last

supper; and their personal expectations were laid out in the public for everyone

to see.

The following questions should help us reflect on our lives in the line of

Peter and Judas Iscariot:

• Why did Judas betray Jesus by selling him for 30 pieces of silver?

• Why did Peter betray Jesus by denying him three (3) times?

• Why did Peter repent while Judas commit suicide??

Activities Director Message

Brother Knights Christ has Risen…let us Rejoice, renew and recommit! We just concluded April what a “Funtastic” month! We did some Outstanding work; State Raffle ticket sales, Lenten Fish Dinners, Stations of the Cross, Holy Thursday, Easter Tent Set-up, 1st Degree induction, Pancake Breakfast, Recruitment weekend and 5th Sunday Rosary to name a few…special thanks to all those Knights that continue week in and week out to rise to the challenge to help support and make both our Parish and Council a place of growth in our Faith and Charitable works!

I encourage all our members to attend Council Meeting on May 8th, as we get set to vote on Brother Knights to fill various positions within the Council. Attending the monthly Council meetings is a wonderful way to get to know your fellow Knights, neighbors and develop meaning friendships not to mention learning about and signing up to have some fun projects while at same time doing great works of Charity, most events require less than 2-3 hours!

As we continue to recruit new Brothers into our Council this growth has given us the ability to increase the number of activities we would like to activate in 2017-2018. However, we need to get all our Knights involved. Richard Bruck spoke last meeting on how we all should and need to get involved with Shepard/Mentoring new members reaching out, introducing them to fellow Knights and the various Event Directors to get them engaged in various activities.

I would like to expand that challenge to include all of us going out in search of our lost sheep, we have over 300 members on the books with less than 15% being activity involved. We need to reach out to each of those folks that you may have recruited or you have personal relationship with; find out how they are doing and invite/encourage them “come home” start by attending our monthly meetings and taking on at least one activity this coming year.

May Activities (please go online and volunteer!) • 6th-7th Mother’s Day See’s Candy • 8th Council Meeting • Election of Officers • 13th Knights Picnic…go online and RSVP • 16th Knights 1st Degree induction 6pm in Adult Education room come support our newest members

(should be full class after recruitment!) • 19th-20th State Convention (turn in your raffle tickets to Chuck!) • 21st Pancake Breakfast last one till fall

bring out your family and partake! • 22nd Officer’s meeting • 27th -28th St. Joe’s Clean-up

Vivat Jesus Brother Mike

Grand Knights Report

• GK welcomed new members and visiting guest to our council meeting. • Fish Fry: Thank you to everyone who help on a very successful Fish Dinner program.

We served 125 people on our last dinner and increased our numbers each week. We totaled 570 people served for a profit of over $700. Looking to increase our price as we were the cheapest but best dinner in town.

• Kiosk program: Kiosks for the booklets and pamphlets for the Narthex have arrived. Might have four Kiosks total by June. These will come out at our recruitment weekend April 29-30th.

• State Convention: Notification of KofC Convention in Scottsdale Plaza Resort May 19-20. GK John Simpson and FC Mike Threadgill will attend with voting rights. Todd Huffman and Chuck McKay will also attend.

• State Raffle: Suggestion was made that the council should by $100 to $200 in tickets each year since this goes to charity, we would get half this back and also have a chance to win the big money.

• Baby Bottle Drive: Total donations finished just shy of $13000 which goes to the Aid to Woman’s Center. Great job on this very successful drive for a worthy cause.

• Trustee’s Slate of Candidates for 2017-2018 Officers: There are positions still open. If you have thought about becoming a Council officer, please talked to our Trustee’s about joining. Slate is ready in April, Vote in May and officers officially start in July.

Field Agent Update

LTC Is an Important Piece of the Puzzle There are many financial consultants and retirement authorities who emphasize the need for a long-term care (LTC) product for estate preservation and family protection. While many commercial life insurance companies have gotten out of the long-term care business, the Knights of Columbus considers LTC a very important piece of the family protection puzzle. The Order has been actively offering our members this product for nearly 15 years without a premium increase on current policyholders. Members who wisely purchased an LTC plan from the Knights in 2000 are still paying the same premiums today. Even better, our LTC coverage is backed by the full strength of the Order, which remains rooted in our strong Catholic values. Talk about stability when it counts. If we have not spoken about your need for LTC coverage in your family portfolio, please take some time out of your schedule to meet with me. Remember, long-term care policies are underwritten based on your health, and you most likely will never be any healthier than you are today.

Things are Heating up in the Arizona desert, but for Seniors a “Freeze” may be coming In Arizona, Seniors who are 65 years or older, and who meet the specific criteria below, can qualify for the Senior Property Valuation Protection Option, which is also referred to as the “Senior Freeze Program.” Under the Senior Freeze Program, a County Assessor will freeze the property tax valuation of a Senior’s primary residence each year. The freeze in the property tax valuation can last up to three years, regardless of market conditions. While the Senior Freeze Program will not eliminate property tax, it will however significantly reduce a Senior’s tax liability, especially over time. Under Arizona law, the taxable portion of a person’s property tax valuation (the “Limited Property Value” or “LPV”) can go up as much as 5% each year. Under the Senior Freeze Program, this 5% increase in the LPV is halted, and the property tax valuation remains the same. Furthermore, the Senior Freeze Program can be renewed at the end of the third year, and will continue for additional 3 years. This process can go on indefinitely, or until the Senior sells the home, changes residency, or increases their income status. To qualify for the Senior Freeze Program, a person must meet the following criteria:

• At least one of the owners must be 65 years of age at the time the application is filed. • The property must be the Primary Residence of the taxpayer. Primary Residence is defined as

the residence which is occupied by the taxpayer for an aggregate of 9 months of the calendar year.

• The owner must have resided in the Primary Residence for at least 2 years prior to applying. • The owner(s) total income from all sources, including non taxable income, cannot exceed

$35,280 (for one owner) or $44,100 (for two or more owners).

The Senior Freeze Program is a great way for Seniors to reduce the amount of property tax they pay each year, especially if they are on a fixed income. If you are interested in the Senior Freeze Program and would like assistance applying for this program with the County Assessor, I would be happy assist you. As

Summer quickly approaches, beat the Arizona heat with the Senior Freeze Program.

• Am I Peter?

• Am I Judas Iscariot?

• The choice is yours!

Are we like Judas who, even though had every opportunity to hear and listen what Jesus taught and

Are we like Peter who, even after confessing that Jesus is Lord, the Son of God, went on ahead to

betray him by denying publicly, when Jesus need him the most

Do we betray our faith in Jesus in times of crisis? #tbt – Judas and Peter. Do we allow ourselves to

fall into the state of despair like Judas or are repentant like Peter? Do we yield to temptations from the evil

one? Believing on Christ means a person places their complete trust in the death and resurrection of Christ

for the specific purpose of providing them with the forgiveness of sins and the gift of eternal life. We should

glory in the cross of our Lord Jesus in whom is our salvation, life and resurrection, through whom we are

saved and delivered.

Let us continue praying that, we who have known his mystery on earth may merit the grace of his

redemption; and that His blessings shine upon us, May He always keep us in his loving care.

May Prayer

Loving God, as a mother gives life and nourishment to her children, so you watch over your Church.

Bless these women, that they may be strengthened as Christian mothers.

Let the example of their faith and love shine forth.

Grant that we, their sons and daughters, may honor them always

with a spirit of profound respect.

Grant this through Christ our Lord.
