KLOE offline/MC status report

Offline/MC tasks for 2006
Establish definitive KLOE data set:
• Close holes in reconstruction/DST coverage
• Reprocess various data sets
Most critical is 2004 data with bad dead-wire maps:
Due to DB problem, hits deleted on falsely declared “dead” wires (up to 4% of DC) in 645 pb-1 of reconstructed data
• Survey data quality for MC production and analysis
Produce large-scale MC samples for 2004-2005 data
KLOE MC upgrades for 2004-2005
• Map of 2004/2005 machine and trigger conditions
• New (post-2003) IR geometry
• Better parameterizations of EmC responseTime, energy resolution; cluster efficiencies
• Improved treatment of nuclear interactions/regeneration in DC wall and beam pipe
• New secondary decay generatorsKSee,ee,ee0
• Inserted background from events acquired with random trigger
• Simulation of noise correlated to K tracks
• Simulation of dE/dx measurement in DC
EmC and DC hits from random events inserted in proportion to Linst
• EmC hits require careful MC/data timescale alignment• Special treatment for “noise” hits on EmC (missing tA or tB)
Background from random triggers
– data• MC
Cluster time distributions (t0 from KS secondaries)
KS , KL crash Overall accidental levelMC/data = 1.05
KS , KL crash Overall accidental levelMC/data = 1.19
Track reconstruction efficiency higher in MC when t0 incorrect
tcl (ns)
tcl (ns)
~3% of clusters in tail (t < 0)
Sample distribution of K-correlated background hits in:– layer, distance (in wires) from reconstructed track, time
Private reconstruction of ~20 pb-1 of 2002 MC events to study how new background parameterization affects MC tracking efficiency
Simulation of noise hits for K tracks

• E distribution rescaled and smeared to match data• Different s-t relations effective integration gates for data/MC• Difficulties in calibrating for track inclination (space-charge effects?)

2001-2002 MC production Estimated time for 2004-2005 MC
Monte Carlo production status
350 pb-1 all events (2005 data) produced in 2006 for tests
• Thorough shakedown of new features in MC
• Rigorous procedural test: performance of DH system
Real production to begin next week
• all, KSKL, KK campaigns to be combined:
all_phys, L scale 1.2
• Start with 2005 data: Reprocessing not necessary for comparison

Final estimate includes:• Closing of holes in
datarec/DST coverage• MC for ’04-’05 data
Library capacity:• Currently 810 TB
600 new cassettes added at start of year
• Expandable to 1400 TB(1400/3600 slots in use in new library)
Will need 145 TB of additional cassettes to finish MC production400 new cassettes (120 TB) already financed
Outlook and summary
• Start of MC production delayed to include improvements to background simulation
• MC production for 2005 data (all_phys, L scale 1.2) ready to start
• Once MC production underway, will begin reprocessing 2004 data with bad wire maps
• We have the CPU power needed to generate a definitive MC sample and reprocess as necessary on a time scale compatible with beginning of 2007
• We will probably want to expand DST disk cache
• We will need new cassettes towards the end of 2006
