DIN 2690/ DIN EN 1514-1 form IBC up to PN 40*

If your operating temperaturesand pressures are within this ”open”field, a technical examination isalways necessary.

If your operating temperaturesand pressures are within this field atechnical examination isrecommended.

If your operating temperaturesand pressures fall within this field, atechnical examination is normallyunnecessary.

Why does Klinger supplypT diagrams?

The many and varied demands made ongasketsThe successful operation of agasket depends upon amultiplicity of factors. Many who use static gasketsbelieve that the values quoted formaximum admissible temperatureand maximum operating pressureare inherent properties orcharacteristics of gaskets andgasket materials.

Unfortunately, this is notthe case. The maximum temperatures and pressures atwhich gaskets may be used are influenced by alarge number of factors.

Therefore a definite statement of these values forgasket material is not possible.

*Gaskets according to DIN 2690 are only standardised up to PN 40

So why does Klinger provide pT diagrams? For the reasons given the

pT diagram is not infallible: it serves as a rough guide forthe end user who often hasonly the operating temperatures

and pressures to go on. Additionalstresses such as greatly fluc-tuating load may significantly

affect whether a gasket issuitable for the application.

Resistance to media must betaken into account in every case.

The fields of decision

If there are any doubts, use theknowledge of Klinger. You can useour FAX-service, the KLINGERexpert®

calculation program or talk to us.

The three fields of decisiondo not indicate limits for the useof our material but they indicate away to select the right gasketmaterial.

Dimensions of the standard sheets Sizes:1000 x 1500 mm, 1500 x 2000 mmThicknesses:0.5 mm, 1.0 mm, 1.5 mm, 2.0 mm,3.0 mm.Other Thicknesses available onrequest.Tolerances:Thickness ± 10%; length ± 50 mm;width ± 50 mm

VariantsKLINGERsil C-4409 and C-4509 arereinforced with expanded metal madefrom carbon steel. Gaskets reinforced with stainless steelC-4409 L and C-4509 L are alsoavailable. Their specifications are thesame but the stainless steelreinforced grades are available in thesheet sizes:1000 mm x 1250 mm and 1250 mm x2000 mm respectively.

Thicknesses C-4409 L: 0.8 mm, 1.0 mm, 1.5 mm.Thicknesses C-4509 L:1.0 mm, 1.5 mm.Other thicknesses available onrequest.

KLINGERsil C-4400 can also besupplied in a colourless versionKLINGERsil C-4400 L. The standardgreen and the colourless versions areboth KTW approved and are suitablefor food processing operations.

KLINGERsil C-4430 and C-4500can be supplied as K-versions for usein power stations. Their chloride andfluoride contents conform to theSiemens KWU standard.

Other KLINGERsil materialsThe KLINGERsil sealant materialsdescribed form our main productrange. To meet special requirements,we supply other versions, e.g.KLINGERsil C-4304, C-4324, C-4408,C-4438, C-4439 and C-6327 as wellas various beater materials.

Please contact us; we shall be veryglad to advise you.

Important points to be observedThe selection of gaskets requiresexpertise and know-how since evergreater reliability coupled with thelowest possible leakage rates aredemanded of gasket materials.

The exacting demands made onthe tightness of gasket materials (e.g.Tightness class L0.01) mean that withincreasing internal pressure highersurface pressures must be applied tothe gasket.

It must be shown that the flangejoint will tolerate the demands madeon it without being mechanicallyoverloaded. Furthermore, the surfacepressure applied to create the sealshould never fall below the requiredminimum value since this will reducethe life of the gasket. Highly stressed, but not overstressed gaskets have alonger life than understressedgaskets.

If the gasket fitted will besubjected to non-static loading, orwill suffer stress fluctuations duringdiscontinuous operation, it isadvisable to choose a gasket which is not prone to embrittlement withincreasing temperature (e.g. KLINGERgraphite laminate orKLINGERtop-chem), especially forsteam and/or water applications. For discontinuous operations in waterand/or steam applications, werecommend as a general guide asurface pressure of about 30 MPa. In such cases the gasket should be asthin as is practicable.

For reasons of safety, we adviseagainst the re-use of gaskets.

Rings and non-standard designsThese gaskets can be supplied in allsizes and in the same thicknesses asfor sheets. PTFE envelope and eyeletgaskets are also available.

SurfacesThe gasket materials as they leave theproduction line have excellent anti-stick properties. However, if sodesired, they can be supplied with ananti-stick graphite or other finish onone or both surfaces.

The performance and life ofKlinger gaskets depend in largemeasure on proper storage and fitting, factors beyond the manufacturer’scontrol. We can, however, vouch forthe excellent quality of our products.
