Director Woody’s State Meeting Recap

Sorors,

Welcome to the first edition of our quarterly newsletter.

I just wanted to provide the highlights from 2012 Oklahoma State Meeting.

Theta Mu served as gracious hostesses and worked tirelessly to ensure the meeting’s success.

Kudos to the Chi Zeta chapter for winning the first statewide chapter scrapbook competition!

Sorors brought canned goods as a part of our state ZHOPE project, which were delivered to the local shelter in the city of Norman.

A donation was made to the National Education Foundation (NEF) from some of the proceeds that were raised from the silent auction.

Job well done to the officers that served the state over the past two years! Congratulations to our newly elected 2012-2014 Executive Board: Grammateus: Anetra House, Assistant Grammateus: LaShay Hodge, Tamias: Ramona Collins, Tamias-Grammateus: Felicia Gipson, and Phylacter: Keisha Driskell.

Much appreciation goes to Soror Zola Drain (17th Midwestern Regional Director) who provided an excellent reminder about getting back to and maintaining the appropriate portrayal and protection of our Zeta image (our brand)! You are encouraged to read this excellent article on the Zeta Brand in the Spring 2011 issue of Dovely Magazine: http://bit.ly/zetabrand

When the thought of taking a ‘Zeta break’ (financially or physically) crosses your minds, think about the reasons why you joined Zeta and remind yourself of the oath that you took. If that’s not enough for you to avoid taking a ‘Zeta break’, take a moment to ponder on these questions: Am I a fair-weather Soror? Am I steadfast and able to be relied upon even when things aren’t going well? If every Zeta was a Zeta like me, what kind of organization would this be?

I am truly excited about your enthusiasm and our unlimited potential in this state, as well as humbled to serve as your State Director. Keep your Zeta light burning bright!

Chi Zeta Chapter SpotlightCongratulations on winning the First Annual Oklahoma State Scrapbook Contest

Chartered in 1936, Chi Zeta Chapter is the oldest graduate chapter in the state of Oklahoma. They are also the only chapter with a Stork’s Nest and an Amicae Auxiliary. This past sorority calendar year, Chi Zeta Chapter volunteered at the food bank; collected money and donated to UNICEF; donated canned goods to the needy; volunteered at the flu shot drive and the Susan G Komen Race for the Cure. They participated in Prematurity Awareness and donated toys to the Pauline E. Mayer Shelter. Soror Tobytha Battle is the Basileus for the chapter’s 30 members.

Chair Soror Sharon Pullen and her fellow scrapbook committee members Sorors Felicia Gipson, Marian Martin, Willette Smithers, and Ramona Collins have beautifully chronicled this chapter’s shining example of what we all should aspire to as Finer Women.

From the Sorority’s inception, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. has long demonstrated an interest in serving the needs of the community. Spanning the Sorority’s nearly thirty-year partnership with the March of Dimes to its relationship with the Human Genome Project, Zeta Phi Beta has been at the forefront of anticipating the ever-changing needs of society.

It is within this framework that International Grand Basileus Barbara C. Moore proudly introduces the new International Service Initiative for Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.: Z-HOPE: Zetas Helping Other People Excel ™. “Since 1920, our national service programs have evolved to meet the criti-cal societal needs of the time,” said International Grand Basileus Moore. “This administration has identified some key areas of concern as part of our programmatic thrust, and all of our efforts will be consolidated under the banner of Z-HOPE.”

What are the objectives of Z-HOPE? Z-HOPE is an outreach service program that has six primary objectives, corresponding measures of success and a mechanism for chapter recognition. The primary objectives are:

- To provide culturally appropriate informational activities according to the Z-HOPE program format - To foster collaborative partnerships between community organizations with shared goals - To promote the opportunities for expansion in Stork’s Nest programs - To facilitate community service and mentoring opportunities for members of the organization - To provide an equitable chapter recognition program for community services rendered - To provide a standard reporting format to concentrate efforts and demonstrate the organization’s impact

**Please check your ZHOPE Manual to see if your community service programs qualify for ZHOPE points.

**Submit your activities to your State National Programs Chair, Soror Shelita Jones, within 2 weeks of doing your project: [email protected].

**Each chapter and auxiliary must complete at least one ZHOPE program per sorority year.
