Aging.Certain wood, such as Cherry, will continue to mellow and darken over time. This brings warmth to lightly-stained Cherry and increases depth below darker stains.

Color Variation.All Merillat Masterpiece® finishes are hand-crafted. As such, each door will be consistently unique. In addition, thenatural characteristics of wood lend themselves to color variation, and this is also true when finish is applied. Veneer wood absorbs more stain than solid wood and will appear darker. Some door styles are built with a solid wood frame and a veneer center panel, which will show more color variation than doors with all solid wood components.

Distressing.Factory-applied techniques give wood a furniture-aged look. Random wormholes, compression marks, and corner over-sanding are distressing elements used to convey gently aged fine furniture.

End Grain.End grain surfaces and softer areas of the wood may accept more stain and often appear darker than other surfaces. This is a natural reaction when finishing wood products and potential variances cannot be controlled.

Gum Streaks.Common in Cherry, dark brown to black streaks run between the grain layers creating a crystalline deposit.

Joint Lines.Since wood is in a constant state of expansion and contraction, visible lines are normal at the joints on the cabinet face frames and doors. This does not weaken the finish or the strength of the joint.

Mineral Streaks.In nature, mineral deposits may form in the wood as the tree extracts nutrients from the soil. Common in many wood types, these mineral deposits cause blackish-blue streaks in the grain. When a finish is applied to mineral streaks, it may appear lighter or darker than other areas of your cabinetry.

Semi-Opaque Color Finishes.Semi-opaque finishes feature a heavily pigmented stain utilizing a hand-applied process. They are semi-opaque,which may telegraph some of the natural beauty of wood. Joint lines and telegraphing may occur with any semi-opaque finish.

Opaque Color Finishes.Opaque finishes feature a hand-applied paint that masks the wood grain but enables the texture of the wood to show. Joint lines and telegraphing may occur with any opaque finish.

Telegraphing.All wood species show some wood grain. The amount of grain will vary by species and finish. Oak is an open or coarse grain wood. The grain will “telegraph” or visibly show through the stain. Birch and Maple are closed or fine grain woods. Some “telegraphing” will occur, though the effect will be subtle.

1. Merillat selects only the finest Oak, Cherry, Hickory, and Maple. All surfaces are progressively sanded smooth, starting with #120 grit sandpaper and finishing with #220grit sandpaper.

2. After sanding, surfaces are vacuumed to eliminate alldust particles.

3. Equalizer stains are simultaneously applied to balance the base color of the wood.

4. Toner is then applied to establish consistent color uniformity.

5. A deep penetrating stain is applied to reveal the hidden beauty ofthe grain.

6. All stained surfaces are then evenly hand-rubbed and wiped clean ofexcess stain.

7. To complete the Old World technique of hand staining, the product is slowly air-dried.

8. Flyspeck distressing is hand-applied to selected finishes requiring this furniture look.

9. A specially formulated high-solids wood sealer is pressure applied, penetrating all exposed wood surfaces for uniform protection.

10. Sealed product is placed in specially designed high-temperature ovens to ensure a complete,thorough cure.

11. All surfaces are again hand-sanded, providing a smooth,consistent surface to accept topcoat.

12. Catalyzed topcoat, specially formulated to include the dual combination of clear resin chemistry and ultraviolet screen inhibitors, is applied. This custom finish provides maximum resistance to scuffing, dents, moisture, UV fade, and household chemicals or agents.

13. Top-coated product is then curedin a 150-degree oven, creating a baked-on, full-bodied, smooth surface, comparable to high-baked finishes generally applied to automobiles and major household appliances.

14. Before shipping, each cabinet is inspected and polished, assuringa finished product of the qualitythat Merillat expects and our customers demand.

Antique GlazesTo create the look of freshly restored heirloom cabinetry, each producing subtle variations in color, several hand-crafted techniques are used. To begin, the unfinished door and drawer fronts are distressed with random impression marks, then over-sanded. A base stain is applied to the wood, followed by a Glaze flood coat to add depth and warmth. The Glaze is then carefully hand-wiped to create soft highlights in the corners and recesses. For an additional accent of color, an Accent Glaze is hand-applied to the recesses of the doors and drawer fronts. To complete the finish process, a protective topcoat is applied, oven-cured, and hand-sanded between coats for a beautiful, long-lasting finish. As with any hand-crafted finish, no two doors will look alike, adding unique and natural character to your cabinetry.

Masco Cabinetry LLC Lifetime Limited WarrantyMasco Cabinetry LLC warrants to the original consumer purchaser that our Merillat Masterpiece® cabinetry will be free from defects in material and workmanship under normal use for your lifetime as long as you own the cabinetry. This warranty is not transferable. No changes or modifications can be made to this warranty except by an officer of Masco Cabinetry LLC.

As with other natural materials, wood is affected by environmental factors such as natural and artificial lighting. Darkening or mellowing of the wood can be expected and is a natural process of wood as it ages. Each wood species also exhibits its own distinctive patterns and characteristics that add to its natural beauty. These variations in color and characteristics are not considered imperfections or defects. This warranty does not cover the natural aging and darkening of wood color nor does it apply to the inherent growth characteristics of wood.

We further provide a LIFETIME LIMITED WARRANTY to the original purchaser on the door hinges and drawer glides for as long as you own the product. This LIFETIME LIMITED WARRANTY provides that the door hinges and drawer glides will be free from defects in material and workmanship under normal use. Replacement hinges and drawer glides are subject to their availability from our suppliers.

Masco Cabinetry LLC may elect to repair or replace any defective Merillat product covered by our warranty. Our warranty does not cover defects caused by misuse, abuse, negligence, alterations, environmental conditions, improper installation, storage and handling, nor any labor expenses.

From time to time, we will change design, specifications, and materials as conditions require and improvements are developed, but we have no obligation to incorporate such changes in products we previously manufactured.

TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES, INCLUDING THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ARE LIMITED TO THE DURATION OF THIS EXPRESS WARRANTY.
