2.14 Significant Activities and contributions made by IQAC
In order to improve the quality in every activity, the IQAC of our institution has organized
number of activities.
The institution underwent peer team visit by National Board of Accreditation (NBA)
on 3d and 4th
February 2017 and three programmes B.E CSE, B.E ECE and B.E EEE
got accreditation for 3 years.
Prior to NBA visit, IQAC organized a orientation programme for the faculty members
of Mechanical Engineering department on NBA documentation. This orientation
programme was conducted on by Dr.VittalBandal, Principal, Goernment Polytechnic,
Marad, Maharashtra.
Periodic meeting with all the members of IQAC have been conducted to discuss the
issues related to the quality sustenance.
A new format of the student feedback on faculty was introduced to perform a
comprehensive analysis on feedback given by the students.
Faculty performance appraisal has been carried out for the academic year 2017-18
which is based on the API scored by each faculty.
Number of motivational lectures have been arranged to improve the confidence level
of new entrants and career guidance programmes have been conducted for senior
students.
New e-journals have been included in the Library to help both the faculty and
students.
As per the guidelines of UGC all departments introduced outcome based education in
their curriculum and course delivery.

Institution has been recognized as the remote centre for conducting on line courses
from IIT Bombay. The following faculty members have completed the work shop on
modern pedagogy conducted by IIT-Mumbai. The same has been delivered to all
faculty members.

The course plan for each subject has been redrafted to include modern pedagogy such
as flipped class room, Think-pair-share, Z – A technique, etc., in each unit.
Internal mock auditing was conducted by senior professors of the institution.
In order to enhance the research ambience, weekly technical talk by the professors in
each department was organized followed by a monthly technical talk for the whole
institution. Topics related to recent research around the world were discussed in each
of these events. The following departments received the research centre status by
Anna University, Chennai.

All departments organized mini project expos to bring out the innovative ideas of
students and convert them into useful products.
International Conference on Science, Technology, Engineering and Management
ICSTEM ’18 was organized during 23-24 March 2018. This inter disciplinary
conference received a huge response. Over 435 articles were received and about 250
articles were presented in the conference.

AQAR was submitted to the management for its perusal and approval. The
Management appreciated the initiatives taken by IQAC for improving the
quality of every curricular, co-curricular and extracurricular activity and the
outcome. Also, the management gave its valuable suggestions for taking up
more quality related activities at the institution for the upcoming academic
year.
Based on the suggestions given by the Management, all activities of the
institution have been brought under IQAC and the schedule of activities have
been fine-tuned in order to have more participation from students and faculty.

5. Student Support and Progression
5.1 Contribution of IQAC in enhancing awareness about Student Support Services
1. Updates on notice boards and college website to ensure active participation by
students in various activities.
2. Announcements during special assembly and in the classes.
3. Internet facility with Wi-Fi connectivity is made available throughout the campus to
support the students in enhancing their knowledge with easy digital access.
4. The Student support Services are primarily looked after by the concerned Head of
the department and Principal in consultation with the Faculties, wardens of the
Hostels and Student representatives.
5. Induction day for the fresher’s, where in all the coordinators & conveners of different committees briefed the students about curricular & extracurricular
activities
6. The college is catering to the needs of students belonging to deprived communities
of Scheduled castes, Scheduled tribes, other backward classes and low-income
groups. SC and ST Students are encouraged to continue their education by way of
Scholarships from Government and Non – Government Organizations Subject wise
special remedial classes for slow learners are conducted during the evening hours.
7. Entrepreneurship Development Cell organizes periodical meetings with
industrialists, entrepreneurs and chief executives of various concerns to enhance the
entrepreneurship skills among the students. Industry Institute Interaction cell builds
a good relationship between the Industry and Institute for the welfare of the students
by organizing regularly guest lectures, seminars, workshops, conferences, industry
visits, in-plant training, internships and campus connect programmes.
8. Placement & Training Cell organizes various training programmes to mould the
students with core competency and employability. Library is equipped with various
books, references, journals and e-journals to supplement the thrust of students and to
enrich their self-learning ability.
9. A Grievance Redressal Cell is constituted to address the grievances of the students
and parents through feedback.
10. Student association in each department organizes various programmes to widen their
exposure in their respective field. National Service Scheme [NSS], Rotary club &
other clubs encourage the students to take part in community development activities.
11. Student support services like multi-disciplinary forums, association with
professional bodies, alumni interactions, student forums / clubs, language

As the institution is affiliated to Anna University, Chennai, the process of
evaluation designed by the Controller of Examinations of Anna University is
followed.
The performance assessment for students is based on assignments, class test,
three continuous internal assessments, model exam and the end semester
examinations. The evaluation ratio is based on 20:80 in the internal and end
university examination.
The evaluation method followed by the institution is transparent method by
distributing the corrected answer scripts of each IAE so that the students can
seek clarification and additional marks are awarded in deserving cases.

KIT is a self- financing engineering college, affiliated to Anna University
Chennai, admission process is in accordance with TNEA (Tamil Nadu
Engineering Admission). TNEA allows 65% of seats under government quota
to be filled through single window common counseling, carried out by Anna
University, Chennai. The remaining 35% of seats are reserved for the
Management. The Management admission is based on test conducted by the
Association of Management of Coimbatore Anna University affiliated
colleges.

4. Introduction of E-box training & mock interviews by the department senior faculty to

Conducted regular Placement Training & Mock interviews for improving the student’s performance at placement interviews.
Conducted employability practice for the first fifteen minutes in the first hour to solve
aptitude questions and GD for making them placement ready, as a method to ensure pre class
preparation by the students.
To expose students to the field experience and industry expertise arranged ‘Guest lectures
and Workshops’ by industry experts in majority of the courses which have been made
mandatory.
Outbound training’ is done for students for developing team bonding and building self-
confidence.
Created a ‘Research Cell’ to improve the quality of research papers and help improve the
research activity.
Taken frequent and open house feedback from students of each classes.
External and Internal Academic audits were conducted through IQAC respectively.
Slow learners were motivated to improve their academic performance through
Mentoring system.

The institute over the period has been practicing several innovative practices to improve the
delivery process of the curriculum that would result in improved and enhanced information
interchange and consequential learning. Practices such as group assignments, case discussions,
live projects, simulated learning, modern pedagogy methods. However, we consider two of our
best practices as highly innovative and unique to SSIM.

The institute participates and encourages students in several Social Responsibility
activities such as
Conducting Cyber Security Awareness Programme to schools, Polytechnic and
college students, literacy campaigns, Awareness Rally, NSS and such.
Institute’s students are highly tuned and trained through programs such as tree plantation, Blood donation etc.
Motivated students & faculties by such initiatives, they carry out several
awareness and extensive programs among neighbourhood places.
The various programs undertaken by students and institute in the year have
been reported in the AQAR in appropriate places.
