This evening our meeting opened with a presentation from Persimmon Homes withregards to developing land at the top of Beech Lane/Camp Lane. This is all a proposaland no planning has been submitted as yet. The Council listened to what the repre-sentatives had to say and further discussions will take place in due course. Please raiseany concerns you have over this land with a Parish Council member.

Allotments – An amendment was put forward about sheds on the allotments, it wasdecided that allotment holders can erect a shed that equates to 36 square feet and nota size of 6ft. by 6ft.

Councillor Kirkbride reported that a Zebra Crossing will be put in place outside theschool. This is very important as the school does not have a crossing patrol person.Work should commence during the school holidays in August.

Waste collection Service – The new blue bins and waste bins will be delivered to us allweek beginning 1st July and the new collections will start week beginning 8th July.Documentation will be sent each householder from South Northants Council shortly.

Bumblebees are a very important part of the life in the garden. We need them to helppollinate the flowers in order for the fruit of the flowers/trees to grow and develop.Bumblebees are social insects and live in nests of up to 400 individuals. Each nest isruled by a queen and lasts for just one year. This is different to honeybee hives whichremain active for several years. In early spring the queen emerges from hibernation tostart a new nest. Her first task is to build up her energy reserves so it is reallyimportant that she can find plenty of pollen and nectar-rich flowers . Once she hasfound a suitable nest site she will rear her first batch of eggs – a group of femaleworkers whose job it will be to feed and nurture the colony . This process is repeatedthroughout the summer with the queen rarely leaving the nest. There are hundreds ofbeautiful flowers that you should have in your garden to keep bees happy theseinclude foxgloves, lavender, geraniums, herbs and wild roses.

What goes zzub, zzub?A bee flying backwards!

Why do bees buzz?Because they can't whistle!

My name is Jonathan Barker and I have moved to Bugbrooke with my wife Bethany.Having spent our last five years in Welton we are used to enjoying the communityspirit that comes with village life. I hope that, over time, we can be an integral part ofthis area too.I have been in the estate agency industry for over fifteen years, working for bothcorporate and independent firms. Three years ago I decided to become a ‘self em-ployed’ Property Consultant working under the Horts Estate Agents banner. Being ‘selfemployed’ means that I don’t ‘clock on’ in the morning and ‘clock off’ in the earlyevening, or work reduced hours at weekends. I make myself available at times that suitmy client’s needs. Everyone has access to me via my mobile number and personalemail address so you never have to leave messages with other people. My aim is tooffer a knowledgeable, trustworthy service whilst acting with integrity to those thatare looking to sell or buy in the villages of Bugbrooke, Kislingbury and Nether Heyford. So please consider me next time you have your home valued. You can call me on07793 355604. Please read my reviews at allagents.co.ukYours sincerelyJonathan Barker

Gardening Page - July the height of Summer! With  the continued warmer weather (hopefully!) and long days, everythingshould be growing well and there should be plenty to harvest on the allotmentand lots of flowers in the garden.Keep your borders tidy by cutting back any faded perennials and hoe regularlyto stop the growth of annual weeds.Regular dead heading throughout the borders will encourage new flowers andcutting back hardy Geraniums, Delphiniums and Penstemons as they fade, willencourage new growth and hopefully a further flush of flowers.Don’t forget to regularly feed your baskets and pots to keep them looking good.Harvest your Garlic when the tops start to yellow and bend over and spread thebulbs out in the sun to dry out if you want to store them.Once fruits start to form on Peppers , Aubergines, Melons, Cucumbers, Cour-gettes, Marrows and Strawberries you can boost your crops by regularlyapplying a high potash feed.Pick Courgettes , Marrows and runner beans  regularly to encourage more fruitsand water often in drier weather.Runners on strawberry plants can be pegged down on the soil to root and createnew plants for next year.Sow the last of your Beetroot, Florence Fennel, Peas and French beans  andplant out Cabbages, Cauliflowers, Sprouts, Broccoli and Kale for the Autumnand Winter.

Tales from Kislingbury ArchivesFrom Kislingbury Village Magazine August-October 1954

In those days, Dr. White, used to come round on a motor-bike. OldGeorge Burrows, known to everyone as ‘Crook’ on account of hiswooden leg, complained one day of being ‘off colour’. The doctor saidhe would put out some medicine for him if he would collect it fromBugbrooke. Later that day old Crook set out from his cottage inWiddows’ Row. He arrived at Bugbrooke, got the promised medicineand started back to Kislingbury. But it was a warm day and old Crookwas getting hot and thirsty. At the top of Butts Hill the toll and the thirstgot the better of him. He sat down by the side of the road, took the corkfrom the medicine bottle and drank the lot! He reckoned he felt bettertoo. And of course they do say that old – No, I won’t mention his name, buthe lived in Back Lane – they do say that he had some medicine ‘to betaken in water’ and he took it standing in a puddle in the yard!

Neighbourhood Watch Newsletter - June 2013By the time you read this we shall have enjoyed another Village Fayre. I hope thatthe weather will be much warmer and we have a sunny weekend for what hasbecome a really big event. At times of warmer weather the Village will always havestrangers walking through whether on the Nene Way, or following some otherfootpath. We need to be careful not to become complacent about Security whenthe weather is fine and we are outside. Please make sure that you keep yourdoors securely locked even if you are in the garden, and if you have open windowsthese should also be protected by security locks. Items of value should not bevisible from windows, particularly if they are open, as these can be "fished" out byopportunistic criminals. At night please lock up securely and pull your curtains soyour rooms are not visible from the outside. Porch lights on at night and motionsensitive security lighting are very good deterrents for the dark hours. If anyreader has any particular requests or issues about Crime Prevention pleasecontact me on my number below. If you live in Ashby Close or Bugbrooke Road please think about volunteeringto become a Street Representative for your street. These streets have never hada Street Representative. Being a Street Representative is not hard work, but itdoes help to make your neighbourhood more secure. I am happy to say that itlooks like we have a Volunteer to be the Street Representative for Watts Closeand I shall welcome the person in my next news. The streets without an activeNHW presence are more vulnerable than the rest of the Village. Please contactme (telephone number and email address below) if you wish to volunteer to be aStreet Representative. Please see the Village Web site for the full list of StreetRepresentatives. Visit the NHW News Blog Site to view this Document.Village news - A catalytic converter was cut and removed from a vehicle in WattsClose overnight on Monday 3 June. A VW Polo was observed on several nights at the PlayingFields and when the time came to lock the gates the occupants demonstrated areluctance to leave, but when they did leave, it was at high speed in an intimidat-ing way. A burglary has taken place in Beech Lane on 21st May 2013 betweenthe hours of 1400 and 1440. Various items of property including a vehicle werestolen. The vehicle has since been recovered.SmartWater promotion - anyone interested in this powerful theft deterrent pleasecontact me.VILLAGE EMAIL DATABASE - The number of houses signed up to our Data-base is now 232 at the time of writing this report. KISLINGBURY AMBLERSDo you like walking but don’t want to go on your own? Then this could bethe answer. Every first and third Wednesday morning of the month, agroup of us from the village have a walk (not a march!) in Northamptonshire, starting and ending at a village pub where some of us have a bite to eatbefore returning to Kislingbury. There is no commitment to join us on everywalk and if you would like more information, please ring Mick Abbott onNorthampton 831562.

Our first walk in June was from Little Harrowden, looping through Orling-bury. This was a distance of 4½ miles which is approximately the length ofmost of our walks. We returned to the Lamb Inn for lunch, where we werelooked after very well.

Our second walk was a slightly longer one by popular request. This was for6.4 miles from Castle Ashby, through Chadstone, down to the river atCogenhoe Mill up to Whiston. After a short break, we climbed to Whistonchurch before returning to Castle Ashby. This time we had lunch at theRed Lion at Denton which satisfied both our hunger and our thirst.
