Introduction

• We are required to record 10 minute speeches and performance in schools and community halls in Kiribati, Indonesia in an MP3 format

• Broadcast must be suitable for national radio to 22 outer islands

• Due to the remote island nature of Kiribati, power failure of equipment is a major technical risk on this project. We need to be aware of the islands elements and must protect equipment from sand, water, heat etc.

• Using the following equipment this should be a fairly user friendly system to use

Recording System

• Sennheiser e840 Microphone• iRiver H320 Audio Recorder• Simply plug the microphone into the iRiver to record

• Alternatively plug Microphone into Laptop and record using the AudiacityAnd editing program

Editing & Burning System

• Panasonic Toughbook CF-U1-mk1 Rugged Ultra• A robust laptop with built in wifi will be used with audio editing software to upload recorded MP3’s onto the internet.

• Audacity – Audio Editor and Recorder

• As previously mentioned, we can also use this to record the performances

• Audio Recorder – iRiver H320 • Microphone – Sennheiser e840• Laptop / Editing – Panasonic Toughbook CF- U1-mk1 Rugged

Ultra• Alternative energy supply – 12 vdc pure sine wave - Array Solar

Software

• We will be using the free, open source software Audacity to edit the audio recordings.

• With this we can both record and edit the recordings

Summary & Recommendations

• With the use of the above mentioned equipment, the recording, editing and uploading of MP3’s should be an easy process.

• Make sure to power up the alternative energy source listed below to ensure you have power at all times.

• Array Solar Laptop Charger allowing upto 30 minutes of laptop use per 1 hour of sunlight. Also charges other equipment.
