Pilgrimage is life and death and eternity. And so, especially in these Great 50 Days of Easter, we are reminded we are not just pilgrims on any journey, but pilgrims of the cross and the empty tomb. We journey with Jesus resur- rected with wounds in his eternal body to discover where the darkness of this world and light of Christ be- come one in God's salvation. In his novel called Godric, Frederick Buechner has the Celtic saint Godric pray: "be thine wounds that heal our wounding. It is the great Pascal (Easter) mystery, that the cross and hatred of human hearts is redeemed into a sign of eternal love and life. "Laugh till you weep. The Rector's Visions

In just over a week now a group of 12 pilgrims from Wabingston -- 9 from Kingston -- will be beginning a pilgrimage to the holy land of the Celtic Christians in Scotland and Northumbria (Northeast England). While the rest of us will not be getting on the plane, this puts me in mind of the fact that we are all pil-grims. Pilgrimage begins in God and ends in God -- not just in one holy place or another. Pilgrimage is life and death and eternity. And so, especially in these Great 50 Days of Easter, we are reminded we are not just pilgrims on any journey, but pilgrims of the cross and the empty tomb. We journey with Jesus resur-rected with wounds in his eternal body to discover where the darkness of this world and light of Christ be-come one in God's salvation. As pilgrims we are walking the way that leads us to discover how the pains and struggles, momentary glories and laughter, our deepest loves are all wound up in God's glory. In his novel called Godric, Frederick Buechner has the Celtic saint Godric pray: "be thine wounds that heal our wounding. Press thy bloody scars to ours that thy dear blood may flow in us and cleanse our sins." It is the great Pascal (Easter) mystery, that the cross and hatred of human hearts is redeemed into a sign of eternal love and life. "Laugh till you weep. May each of you, my beloved pilgrims, laugh and weep your-selves into the journey to eternal life beside our Lord Jesus this Pascal season and, of course, for forever-more.

May Opportunities

May 3: Our extended deadline for registra-tion for our Wabingston Shrine Mont retreat on July 26-28 is this Friday, May 3, but we’d like to hear from you by Wednesday, May 1. Registration forms can be found in the April Crier and at the Parish House. Cost for weekend is $175.00 per adult for double occupancy, $235.00 per adult for single occupancy. Six meals are included and children under 18 are free. We really hope that our families with young children will take advantage of this opportunity. A $50 deposit is due with registration. Don’t miss out on this chance to worship, learn, pray, and play in this beautiful setting. Call Mary Kathryn Diggs or Marti Bowen with questions.

May 5: In addition to our regular Sunday morning services, we will have our next Celtic service at Kingston Chapel, 5:30 p.m. This service is very special to many parish-ioners—we hope you will come experience this meditational worship service in May.

May 12-23: Several from our congregation are heading to the British Isles for a Celtic Pilgrimage, a spiritual journey led by Fr. Gary. Pray for safe travels and spiritual en-richment for all. The Rev. Scott Krejci will supply for us May 12 and 19.

May 25: Lobster Dinner!! Please call in your orders as soon as possible. If you can help Vicki Carter with promotion, planning, set up, cooking, serving and/or cleaning please give her a call, 695-4591, or try to catch her (she’s like the wind).

The poster for the Lobster Dinner is on page 5 of this Crier. Please take and post in your nearest post office or convenience center to help us promote the event. Thank You!

May 26: Even though it follows the Lobster Dinner, we will have both 8 am and 10:30 am services this Sunday, because it is Elea-nor’s last Sunday with us as choir director and keyboardist. We would like to honor her during a reception following the 10:30 ser-vice at Kingston Chapel. Come prepared to share what Eleanor has meant to you during her many years of music ministry with us.

Dear Kingston Parish:

In 2002, when leaving a service at Abingdon Episcopal Church in Hayes where I had sung Soprano in the choir for 10 years, I felt an inner knowing that I would soon be leav-ing that church. This was an odd premonition, but proved to be true. Very shortly after that, through a series of events, I ended up playing at Kingston Parish after a 20 year hiatus from playing any keyboard. One of my first services was the “Colonial” service we had at Christ Church, where we used our harpsichord….and now, 17 years, 3 rectors, and multi-ple interims and subs later, it is time for me to depart King-ston Parish. In February I notified Gary and the vestry that my rheumatoid arthritis has made it impossible for me to play the organ or keyboard without pain, and that I would be retiring at the end of May. It’s difficult to explain what be-ing at Kingston Parish has meant to me. In retrospect, hind-sight being 20/20, I can see that God anchored me at King-ston Parish because my life was going to be chaotic for sev-eral years.

The regularity of playing the Liturgy, directing the choir, and moving through the Church year with all of you enabled me to weather the storms of existence which were gathering on the horizon of my life. From Hurricane Isabel and the loss of my home for a year and a half (which required a commute from Portsmouth), through a difficult divorce, the traumatic unexpected deaths of my mother and brother, and a second ankle replacement surgery, being involved in the music at Kingston Parish has provided an anchor and sense of purpose which has been most dear to me.

The choir (God bless them all!) has been stalwart and com-mitted in spite of my unorthodox methods of choir directing. (I was once accused of yelling at them by someone, and they laughed when I told them of the complaint, so used were they to me yelling to be heard!!). They are an absolute-ly wonderful bunch of committed musicians, and I will miss them most. As always we are deeply fortunate to have a mu-sician of Nina Buzby’s talent and performance capability at our 10:30am service (her service is humble and often unno-ticed, but she has been an absolute backbone of music at that service). I know that the choir, Lois (our 8am organist), Nina and others will keep the music strong as Gary searches for a choir director and keyboardist for the 10:30 service.

So, in closing, I want to thank each of your for your spiritual presence and for walking through this last nearly two dec-ades with me. I surely will see some of you as our paths cross in the future, but wanted to take this opportunity to share my gratitude.

Blessings, Eleanor Woollard

The Great Vigil of Easter 2019

The Children’s Sunday school class led by Vicki Carter told the story of Noah and the Ark. In the beautiful pic-tures taken by Ray Stubblebine you see the rainbow God sent to promise he would never destroy the earth with water again. Participating in the skit were Aubrey Adams, Carter Hayes, Lyman Hayes, Jasmine Hudgins, Julianne Hudgins, Luke Morris and Paige Morris.

Preschool News

Hello from Preschool!

We have had another great month here in our class-room, with exciting developments like our kindergar-ten tour, our Easter egg hunts, and a very special visit from a bearded dragon during our unit learning about reptiles! Also news is that our teacher, Miss Lily, got married over spring break! We all are so happy for her and congratulate her so much on this wonderful new chapter in her life. As with this change, Lily has also made the decision to leave Kingston Parish Preschool after June of this year. She has been such an amazing asset to our program and will be sorely missed, of course, but we wish her well as she moves forward and know she will do so much good with whatever she chooses to pursue in the future.

This does mean we are going to be looking for a new assistant teacher to replace her in the fall, so please feel free to share that news with anyone who you think might be interested. As always, we are so grateful for all the support we receive from the church. Our pre-school could not operate without your generosity. Thank you for everything!
