Great News! We are halfway through our four-week fundraising effort and we are more than halfway to our goal of raising $45,000 for the upgrade to our sanctu-ary sound system. I am deeply thankful for those who gave the 37 gifts to the church that have gotten us to this point. These are the people who respond quickly when a need arises and get the ball rolling. We would certainly be in trouble without these folks. I can write this with all humility because I am not one of these quick responders. While Lesley and I have discussed our gift, have prayed about it, and have settled on an amount, we haven’t quite gotten around to writing our check.
No, Lesley and I are a part of the second wave of givers, and this is an important group too. Those of us who fall into this category have known from day one that
we are going to give, but for one reason or another we haven’t gotten to it yet. The next two weeks will be the time when this group makes its mark. These are the folks who are going to do what it takes to get us to our goal.
Whichever group you fall into, I am deeply grateful for your gift, and I am grateful to all those who give to our General Fund and Capital Fund throughout the year. Your giving makes our worship, and everything else we do here at the church, possible. I love being a part of the wonderful group of people who give to the church.
Sincerely,
David

In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus was asked by the Pharisees to reveal the greatest commandment. His response was as follows:
Matthew 21:37 - 39
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and first commandment, and a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself”.
The parable of the Good Samaritan is an excellent example of showing how to love your neighbor. A man who had been beaten and robbed was shown unconditional love. The Samaritan, a person who the Jews held in contempt, saw the stranger not as the enemy but as a creature of God . He extended a hand of friendship by tending to his wounds, feeding him and arranging for a place for him to stay and be cared for while he recovered. The Samaritan did all of this without expecting anything in return. Jesus ended his parable by saying ,”Go and do likewise.” (Luke 10:37)
Your neighbor may be someone you know or someone you do not know. A smile, a word of encourage-ment or a meal may be all someone needs. Let’s exercise good stewardship by sharing of your time, talents and resources in order to help meet the needs of your neighbors.

Message from Property Committee Chairman
I would like to take this time to personally thank a few individuals that continue to do work in the church, whether it is to help me or just do it on their own. More often than not they do it on their own. First, is Vernon Webster. If you walk around the exterior or inside the church and you see where painting has been done it’s a good bet that he is the one that did it. Betty may have something to do with that but I’m not sure. Whether it be walls, doors, handrails, etc. it doesn’t matter. I rarely ever ask him to do anything. If he sees the need he does it. Second, would be Terry Rodenroth. All the plants you see around the church have been planted and maintained by this man. That means even if it’s hot or cool outside he’s working. I will certainly miss him when the time comes that he decides to hang up his shears, shovel, and gloves. Lastly, I would like to thank Wayne Boyd. As I’ve stated in earlier letters if it’s warm or cool when you walk in the sanctuary or your classroom, Wayne is the one that makes sure the thermostats are turned on before we arrive and turns them off when we leave. I wish I had more people like them.
In closing I would ask each of you to please say thanks to these individuals when you see them in passing. I’m sure it would mean a lot to them and myself.

THERE IS A FORM FLOATING AROUND KINGS HIGHWAY CHRISTIAN CHURCH THAT SAYS DEAR LADIES OF KHCC.
HAS ANYONE SEEN IT???? JUST IN CASE YOU HAVE MISSED IT,
I WANT TO BE SURE YOU READ THIS.
We need your help to be sure we have your address etc.
correct in our 2014 year book. We also want every lady
to be a part of DWM (Disciples Women Ministry). We
take ideas that will help projects and support the needs
of our church and community. We also need you and
your donations to help us support the many projects we
do. Times have changed and in many cases both moms
and dads are working so give us what time you can and
please support us with a monetary gift. Both will help us
meet our goals for 2014.
Since January we have made and stuffed more than 100
hearts for heart surgery patients to hold after surgery.
We have taken these to LSU Hospital. We always need
women who can sew. Please sign up to sew these
hearts.
Now after three years I am no longer president of DWM,
I want to thank all the women who helped make my
rein a success. I could not have done it without them. A
big "Thank You" to all of you! The new DWM leader is
Glenda Davis. Please help her to have a wonderful year
in 2014 - 2015.
