Dedication to innovation, advanced technology, and excellence inengineering has developed into the first ever generation of outdoor LED fixtures from King Luminaire.

LED, which stands for "Light Emitting Diode", is a semiconductor device that emits a narrow

spectrum of light. King Luminaire’s goal in introducing LED technology is to provide customers

with a light source that matches or exceeds the performance of HID technology, while also

providing substantially longer life and cost effectiveness when compared to similar fixtures

utilizing a comparable HID light source.

With LED technology, as with HID technology, King Luminaire continues to provide outstanding

optical performance in terms of output and distribution. The performance of King Luminaire LED

fixtures is therefore designed around the requirements suggested in the IESNA RP-8 standard for

roadway illumination. This means that LED is treated as an ‘alternative’ source to HID and must

meet or exceed the same criteria as HID when it comes to the number of fixtures required, pole

spacings, Dark Sky Friendly™ design, etc. There is much debate concerning various types of

lumens and the way they may interact to improve the quality of the light output. At this time there

is no acceptance of this in either North America or Internationally. Therefore, King Luminaire shall

continue to report only ‘Photopic’ lumen output (as per standard HID) in accordance with the

Internationally accepted CIE definition found in CIE Publication No. 18.2, 1883.

LED technology is still in the early stages for General Outdoor Street Lighting. Our product

development team is dedicated to continuous improvement of this technology to ensure that

all LED products from King Luminaire continue to overcome all inherent obstacles such as heat

control, optical performance, and high cost. King Luminaire will continue to offer the highest

offered with our state-of-the-art Rotolock™ system for completely tool-less entry.

Heat Control• King Luminaire recognizes that the largest single contributing factor to LED chip failure is heat

• Elevated junction temperatures at the LED chip can lead to reduced light output, as well

as drastic reductions in the expected life of the LED chip

• King Luminaire’s line of Post Top LED fixtures utilizes a

dynamic fluid cooling system for effective heat control

• Drawing cool air in from outside of the fixture, air rises

by convection through a central cooling tower and exits

the top of the fixture through a vented finial system

• The multi-faced central cooling tower, upon which the

various high output LED arrays are mounted, acts as a

heat sink

• This efficiently draws the heat away from the LED chips, allowing them to be kept well below

the recommended heat levels for optimum performance

Optical PerformanceKeeping with King Luminaire’s long-standing reputation as

a quality manufacturer of high performance street lighting,

our new line of LED powered luminaires is engineered to

provide the highest degree of optical performance in the

market. The multi-sided central tower allows for the use of

various patterns and quantities of LED emitters to be mounted

on each face, enabling the luminaire to achieve the various

light distribution patterns needed to meet any lighting needs.

Environmental ConcernsKing Luminaire has kept environmental concerns in the forefront in the

development of our LED luminaires. In addition to the benefits gained

from reduced energy usage, our patent pending state-of-the-art Optical

Baffles System virtually eliminates wasted uplight above the fixture.

The optical baffles also help to reduce glare and distribute the light onto

the ground plane, thus improving lamp spacing and lighting uniformity.

This cutting-edge baffle system utilizes upper and lower control surfaces,

highly engineered to control the light while at the same time maximizing

the efficiency of the luminaire as a whole.
