Sharing Our News
Dinner Dance – Bass Clarinet A wonderful evening was enjoyed by all who came to dance
with Howard Ward on Friday evening at Singleton Diggers.
Thanks go to so many members of staff for their coordination of
the night under the guidance of Mr Upcroft: Miss Honeysett,
Miss Gay, Mr Phelan, Mr Kember, Ms Clout, Miss Mclackland
and Mrs Judge. Also to our P&C members who donated
toward prizes for our competitions. I imagine it could go ahead
again in the future without the target of purchasing a bass
clarinet!
We have raised enough funds for our purchase.
Kindergarten Orientation begins Our first Kinder Orientation session went very well – thanks to
our team: Mrs Griffiths, Mr Old and Mrs Judge. We were ably
supported by members of the School Council and P&C as well
as our senior students.
Our 2014 Kinder students continue to enjoy story time each
Tuesday afternoon in the school library. Our next orientation
session will take place on Thursday the 7th November at
9.00am.
Assessment Time All classes are settled and working well. I would like to
recognise the ongoing dedication of our teachers in their day to
day preparation and teaching.
This is the time of year your children especially need to be at
school on time and ready for work. Stages are already
beginning assessments as reports are due to stage supervisors
in a few weeks.
Enjoy your Week

Great Representation at Boys Cricket Trials
On Friday 6th King Street students took part in the
PSSA cricket trials at Cook Park. Jackson S, Mitch
C, Kayden F, Tom S, Cody R and Samuel H spent
the day participating in batting and bowling trials in
the nets, and a number of fielding activities.
Jackson and Tom were successful in making it to
the regional trials to be held at a later date.

All Smiles at Kindergarten Orientation
Last Thursday, King Street welcomed our 2014
children and their families to our Kindergarten
Orientation. They were a wonderfully settled group
of children, very eager and enthusiastic with
beautiful manners. We look forward to seeing them
over the next 2 Thursdays.
Just a reminder for our new Kinder parents that
‘Storytime’ sessions will be held each Tuesday for
the rest of the term in our library. Storytime starts at
2.30pm and all children and their parents are most
welcome. These sessions and orientation days will
give your children a great start to their schooling.
Shayna and Grace enjoyed their first Orientation Day, and they
certainly looked the part!

Storytime is proving to be
very enjoyable for our
future Kindergarten
students. The sessions are
held each Tuesday in the
library at 2.30pm, and
allows children and their
families the chance to
become familiar with our
school, staff and routines.
As you can see by the
smiles, a lovely time is being
had by all!

Dinner Dance
Last Friday night saw what many hope will be the first (in many years) of many Dinner Dances hosted by staff
and P&C members. The night was intended to raise money for the purchase of a new bass clarinet for our
school band. The goal was that through ticket sales, donations and fund raising activities on the night we could
raise enough money to pay for this instrument to broaden out the sound of our band and give one of our senior
students the opportunity to branch out and learn this exotic instrument.
The Dinner Dance was a great fun night out with something for everyone who went to enjoy. Our night began
with fundraising activities using prizes donated by The Criterion Hotel, the Royal Hotel, Tattler Wines, Hollydeen
Wines. Amongst other prizes that were donated by the community but sourced through the efforts of the
amazing Rochelle Foster and Bec Monk. The tone of the evening was set by our spirited hosts Ms Adrianne Gay
and Ms Abbey-Lee Honeysett who were never short of a joke or witty banter throughout the evening. They
kicked off the evening with trivia and ended it with an amusing but very amateur auction hosted by yours truly.
In addition to this the crowd were entertained by a number of familiar faces. Dinner entertainment was provided
by our very own Mr Tim Phelan who wowed the crowd by playing a variety of Irish songs and instruments and
even capped off his performance with cameos from John Kember on Banjo and myself on guitar. Then the
master took the stage with Mr Howard Ward captivating his audience with dance competitions, medleys and
ripping guitar solos. The whole room was up dancing for the remainder of the night that even included guest
backing vocal spots from a certain King Street Principal.
At the end of the night we had easily raised over $1,600 which is more than enough to pay for our school's bass
clarinet. Everyone had a blast with many people I have spoken to since already talking about "next year's Dinner
Dance."

‘Excellence’ from King Street Swimmers
Six King Street students have recently qualified for
Swimming Australia’s Junior Excellence
Programme. Olivia E, Maddison B, Oliver B, Tegan
M, Elliot E and Bella J have all been given this
honour which makes them some of the top
swimmers in the country. To achieve such status
they had to qualify by obtaining a certain number of
personal best times (depending on their level), within
one swim meet. All of these swimmers have
achieved some remarkable times over the last year
and should be extremely proud. We are certainly
very proud of them!
Horse Sports We would like to congratulate all the students who
attended Belltrees Horse Sports last Friday. We had
some outstanding results from Thomas D who in the
Main Arena Event managed to come 2nd Barrel
Race, 2nd American Pole Bending, 2nd Mug Race,
2nd Bending Race and in the Ring 2 Event he came
1st Key Hole, 3rd Duck Race, 2nd Clover Leaf.
Thomas also was the Champion Boy for the Highest
Point Score.
Chloe D also had some great results 1st Hack
Class, 1st Mug Race, 2nd Rider Class, 2nd Bending
Race, 3rd Clover Leaf Race, 3rd American Pole
Bending, 4th Key Hole, 5th Barrel Race, 5th Duck
Race. Both students came home with many ribbons
what a great effort!

Beware of the Dogs King Street Public School tries at all times to support
our neighbours. One of our neighbours in Edinburgh
Avenue is having to pay huge vet bills at the
moment due to students teasing their dogs on the
way home from school. As a result of this behaviour
the dogs will attack each other causing themselves
injury. The owners are also worried that a child will
get bitten.
Please remind your children that these signs are for
their safety and that our values of Kind, Safe, Proud
and Supportive also apply to how we treat our
neighbours and their pets.
Cath Larkman
King Street Values the Wellbeing of
our Students
Please be aware that we have an immuno-
suppressed student in our school.
If your child develops a contagious disease, please
let the school know ASAP so we can act
accordingly.
Selective High Schools If you would like your child to apply for selective high school placement in Year 7 for 2015, you need to do so soon. For more information go to www.schools.nsw.edu.au/shsplacement
applications close 18 November 2013.
BUS PASSES 2014 (STSS) Parents are reminded that ALL students
in Kinder, Yr 1 & Yr 2 are entitled to free
bus travel.
If your child is starting Yr 3 you need to
re-apply for a bus pass. All other
students with a current bus pass need not
apply, unless the student’s address has changed. Students
who live outside that 1.6km radius will continue to
receive free travel as long as they continue to attend
school. Any students inside this radius will need to pay
for travel.
Year 3 students need to reapply for a bus pass if
they are eligible, i.e. they live outside the 1.6km
radius from school. If your child is going to use free travel in 2014,
please contact the office for an application form.

Keeping Our Kids Safe
Thank you to all those parents and carers
who continue to use Sussex Street
carefully when dropping off and collecting their
children. At King Street it is of high importance to us
that we keep all your children safe.
We continue to have a few motorists who appear to
be unfamiliar with the RTA signage and laws, so we
ask all motorists to be particularly aware of the
following:
There is no parking in the School Drop
off/Pick up zone during the allocated ‘kiss
and drop’ times.
‘No Stopping’ signs indicate no stopping at
any time. These are generally in the more
high risk areas.
Motorists must not leave their car when
stopping in the School Drop off/Pick up zone.
The area immediately outside the
Kindergarten gate is not to be used to drop
off children. This is a ‘No Stopping’ area.
It is illegal to drop off or pick up children in
the middle of the road.
Thank you for your continued support in keeping our
kids road safe.
King Street is an Allergy Aware School
This is a reminder for all families that some of our
students have serious reactions to products containing
nuts and fish.
We ask families to carefully consider the danger that
others could face if they touch or eat these products.
We ask that you please do not send foods or
containers to school that contain nut or fish
products.
REMINDER At King Street School we have a
policy endorsed by the WHS Committee (Work,
Health, and Safety) that no animals are to be on
school grounds.
The only exception would be if they are brought in
for “Show & Tell” and taken home immediately after
by parents. It has been noted that some parents are
bringing dogs to school with them when dropping
and collecting children. We would ask that these
parents cease this practice for the safety of the
children at our school.
Thank you
