These slides present some background on the general arrangement of the bridge and key elements, such as:

• Landscape and buildings;

• Lighting;

• Safety and security;

• Stairs and railings;

• Elevators; and

Project Area and Background

4

The Project Area is located with Liberty Village and is bounded by King Street West, the GO Transit Corridor and Western Battery Road and Shaw Street.

The Environmental Assessment (EA) for the bridge was completed in November 2011.

A bridge with a combination of stairs and elevators was identified as the recommended design in the EA.

The bridge will be located on property owned by Metrolinx and the City of Toronto

Tree Inventory

• 26 trees are anticipated to be removed to accommodate the Project

• Steps will be followed according to the City of Toronto’s Tree Protection Policy and Specifications for Construction Near Trees (July, 2016)

• Impacts will be mitigated by:Using tree protection fencingUsing tree protection signage Having an Arborist present

during tree removal Pruning (protecting branches

from construction)

• A Tree Planting Plan is underway

Safety and Security

16

The City of Toronto prioritizes safety and security.

The following are safety and security features that will be implemented in the Final Design of the bridge:

• Four cameras – one at each entrance point and two in the middle of the bridge, pointed each way

• Alarm intercoms in each lobby and in the middle of the bridge

• Open stairs and parapets to increase visibility and reduce loitering

Proposed King-Liberty SmartTrack Station

Background• In July 2016, City Council and Metrolinx

Board approved the SmartTrack/Regional Express Rail (RER) integration scenario with up to six new SmartTrack stations located at:

– Finch, Lawrence, Gerrard and East Harbour on the Stouffville/Lakeshore East GO corridors and

– Liberty Village and St. Clair West on the Kitchener GO corridor

• Metrolinx also identified two new GO RER stations in Toronto located at Spadina/Front and Bloor/Lansdowne on the Barrie GO Corridor.

• On November 8, 2016, City Council approved the 6 SmartTrack and 2 RER station locations and entered into a cost and revenue sharing agreement with the Province of Ontario for several transit initiatives, including SmartTrack.

The City is working in partnership with Metrolinx on planning and designing eight new SmartTrack/GO stations in Toronto. One of the proposed SmartTrack stations is at King Street near Sudbury Street, between Dufferin Street and Strachan Avenue.

Proposed King-Liberty SmartTrack Station

Station Highlights• Multiple points of access

to the station are planned, including a connection to the King-Liberty Pedestrian/Cycling Bridge

• Enhanced pedestrian and cycling connections in the community will help overcome access barriers and create new links to surrounding destinations

• Bike parking will be provided at station entrances

The improvements to multi-modal pathways the new station can provide will create new access and circulation opportunities for the surrounding area. A connection between the new station and the King-Liberty Pedestrian/Cycling Bridge is being planned.

LEGEND

The design for the SmartTrack station is still in the early stages and will evolve. Further community consultation is being planned as part of the environmental assessment process.
