Early in 1977, Kinetic Instruments was conceived based upon theconcept of producing unique and innovative products for generaldentistry. The following several years were spent developing andperfecting a miniaturized high intensity illumination system specificallyfor air-driven high speed dental handpieces. The invention placed ahalogen lamp directly proximal to the light transmitting fiber-opticassembly, thereby achieving the first usage of high brilliance lampsattached to ISO-B 5-hole handpieces. Shortly thereafter, KineticInstruments was awarded a U.S. Patent on the device that basicallyset the standard for all future applications and essentially turned theindustry toward this more efficient technology.

Ever since, Kinetic Instruments has focused its resources on thecustom development, marketing, and support of a myriad of specificallydesigned light source systems and accessories. As a result, we havevirtually become the only company in the dental industry dedicated tothe design and production of newer, more varied, and higher qualityhandpiece light source and connectivity products.

Although we have a complete line of standard ISO-B 4H, ISO-B 5Hand ISO-C handpiece tubings in every practical color and materialcombination, our specialty is the custom design of all conceivablevariations for OEM and dealer distribution. Internally Installed Handpiece HosesThe “factory-like” internal installation avoids any components attached to the exteriorof the dental unit. This connection method enhances overall appearance. Internallyinstalled handpiece tubings utilize tinned wire ends to connect directly to appropriatepower packs. The four-hole tubing may be split and routed individually to serviceconnections or the tubing can be attached to a convenient in-line splice which willaccept conventional 1/16” and 1/8” I.D. service tubing.

External installation is an easy and efficient connection method to utilize in situationswhere service technicians are unavailable or unnecessary. Externally installed powerpacks are fitted with convenient electrical jacks for easy plug-in connection of the walltransformer and up to three light source tubings. The underside of the power pack isfitted with a self-adhesive foam backing to facilitate simple mounting to any flatsurface. Slim-line compact design results in an overall size of only 4”Lx2.4”Wx0.8”Hand weighing just under 2 oz.

Externally Installed Power Packs

Externally Installed Handpiece HosesThe “unit end” of all externally installed light source tubings incorporate an integralair switch for automatic light activation as well as a two foot long cable and plugassembly that permits a “no-tools” cut-and-plug installation. The air switch alsoprovides a convenient method of attaching the light source hose to the originaldelivery unit tubing and can also be used to convert 2-hole or 3-hole tubing to theindustry standard 4-hole configuration. A low activation pressure of only 8 psi.permits light at low handpiece speeds.

All Kinetic lamp modules employ state-of-the-art ultra high pressure (UHP)Krypton-Halogen bulbs to insure the highest light output and longest life. Thelamps, filled with up to 7 atmospheres of a Krypton-Halogen gas, exhibitextraordinary brilliance from a small diameter size. This miniaturization permitsthe lamp to be placed less than 1/32”(1mm) from the handpiece fiber-opticresulting in maximum light transmission to the clinical working area.

High Brightness Krypton Lamps

To accommodate Kinetic manufactured lamps as well as other brands commonlyused in industry ISO-C configurations, variable voltage power packs are available inboth internally and externally installed versions. Each circuit of a variable voltagepower pack is independently adjusted using surface mounted controls. Since variousmanufacturers utilize significantly different lamp voltage specifications, this featurepermits all systems to be utilized with one power source.

Power packs are manufactured in two basic configurations to permit easycut-and-plug external connection or more aesthetically appealing, “factory-like”, internalconnection. Internally installed power packs incorporate individual integral air sensingswitches for automatic light activation that are made accessible using 1/16” I.D. barbedfittings. Electrical connection is accomplished with a wire terminal strip which permitsattachment of the wall transformer and up to three light source tubings. Each lightcircuit is cross-sensing to prevent simultaneous activation.
