What is the situation @ work?

Globalization has been a long-drawn process that seems to be picking up in speed and volume.

First phase started, supposedly, more than 100,000 years ago, when hunter and gatherer tribes from East Africa migrated north. For thousands of years, humans spread over the globe, settled in every landscape and climate, and adapted to the new conditions.

Second phase, started around 10,200 BC, with the neolithic revolution, human cultures started shifting and mixing, trade lines were established over continents already thousands of years ago.

Third phase, started around 1,500 years ago, civilization proceeded where it formed new mixed pockets; cultures which could exploit diversity in terms of complexity. Open trade societies were always the most advanced, wealthy cultures in history. India, China, the Roman empire, the bloom of Byzantine and the Arabic World, the rise of Venice and the renaissance of the Italian city states – all this was product of early hot spots of globalization.

Kindness@Work

• An initiative aimed at generating a happier, more gracious workplace across all major organisations in Singapore. It involves putting the 3 pillars of graciousness - consideration, courtesy and gratitude into action in the workplace.

Will Happen Will Not Happen

Do Kindness@Work Leadership: “Business” with Consideration

Staff: Work with Courtesy

Customers: Engage with Gratitude

Hopefully, leadership won’t fall into a “GINI coefficient” culture of owning, working and exploited class. Staff won’t have just a transactional relationship with the organisation and customers. And customers won’t have an antagonistic relationship with staff, leadership and organisation.

Don’t Do Kindness@Work

Chronic stress on leadership, staff and customers leading to excessive secretion of cortisol which harms the brain and immune system and suppression of oxytocin which lowers trust and creates bad will at work, home and in society. And societies with fierce status competition may well be unhealthier and more violent.

Will not end up doing something truly meaningful and purposeful beyond just work, towards the fulfilment of your and your organisations social responsibility.
